250 - Fear Itself Mingle
[ Today is a day where most would be at risk of oversleeping. The dome lies dark like in the dead of night. The sun hasn’t risen today, streetlights casting a dull yellow glow and occasionally flickering out into nothing, only to spark back to life a moment later. There is no electric flicker from the kiosk. The Wardens are still. The wardens are silent.

The dome isn’t silent. There is a rustling of leaves, a snapping of twigs. Claws, scraping against concrete. The inhuman screech of an animal in peril, an animal hunting, an animal hunted. A screech that promises sharp claws and sharper teeth and blood.

The dome isn’t still either. There is something moving, thick as a shadow, tangible as a chill down your spine. Something that doesn’t belong here, something that snuck in when no one was looking. A boogeyman under the bed. A ghost in the closet. A will o’ the wisp, blinking in and out of existence under the flickering streetlights. Whatever it is it’s moving, leaving a trail of cold, dead fear wherever it passes. Something dark. A shadow so pitch black that it blots out the very lights in your heart, dragging your fears out screaming and kicking, reducing even the strongest, toughest man to a blubbering baby.

Perhaps best to stay in bed today, Marina. ]

((OOC: Event information HERE. We ask the winners of the raffle to fill out a simple survey and then tag into the Vapor thread HERE! Happy mingling, Marinanites! ))

[ she's going to hope this person is an actual person for a variety of reasons including, but not limited to, the knowledge that a) the covenant would die first before impersonating a human an b) she really doesn't want to deal with yet another threat here other than the raptors. though she may be super-human as far as strength and endurance go, she still has her limits and those are a lot closer than she likes to admit, especially since she doesn't have her armor.

she's faster than normal humans, taller, and stronger by far, as proven by the fact that she rams this new raptor with her shoulder. she's lucky that she was faster than it, too, as it didn't have a chance to deal with the element of surprise that she dealt it, slamming her shoulder into its throat. the move would have shattered bones on any normal human, but kelly doesn't even flinch. instead, she uses her momentum to snap its head back. a moment later the raptor is distracted by someone else behind it, a someone else who's going to be in the line of kelly's momentum.

she's about to issue a warning, but somehow this fight seems to be taking a turn. the raptor is dispatched easily between them and kelly turns warily towards the newcomer. ]

...Thanks.

[ It might be best to leave that "actual person" topic alone - it can be a slightly sensitive matter when it gets called into question. He straightens himself up once the raptor is dealt with, giving her a small nod in response. ]

Likewise.

[ He's certainly curious about her abilities, but this is hardly the time to ask. ]

Are you unharmed?

[ at this point, she considers him as human as she is and for now she'll give him the benefit of the doubt. he doesn't look any different and if he wanted her dead like the covenant did, he would've shot her already.

at his question, she gives one small, firm nod. ]

Yes.

[ actually, she's not fully unharmed. she has a few minor cuts and scrapes by now, but it's hard to tell her blood from the raptors' blood and she certainly isn't acting like she's been hurt or even bruised. then again, this is the spartan who suffered second-degree burns on 72% of her body and was ready to go mere hours after receiving a new lung. to her, as long as she can still move, she's not hurt enough for it to matter. ]

How many more contacts are there?

[ what she wouldn't do for her armor right about now. the motion tracker in her helmet could tell her perfectly. ]

[ He gives a nod back to mirror her own; whether or not she's injured, she's certainly a much better judge than he is. Her movements aren't impaired, and even if she's suffered a cosmetic injury, that doesn't necessarily indicate that she is in need of immediate attention.

At the question, he turns - even in the limited light, he's able to track movements rather easily. ]

There do not currently appear to be any individuals in need of assistance, but there are two of the creatures approximately 32.73 meters from our present position. They do not appear to have detected us yet.

[ she glances in the direction he's watching, her eyes able to track the contacts he mentions easier than a normal human could. she nods in response. ]

If we can surprise them and work together, we can take them out easily.

[ He glances to her, and gives a small nod. There are certainly a number of questions he'd like to ask about her abilities - under the circumstances, of course, it seems best to put those off. ]

Agreed. At your ready?

[ He's poised to move, at least in as much as he needs to be. ]

[ she gives a small nod and then she pushes off. she can't reach her top speed in an enclosed area like this, but she can get pretty close before she leaps to take one by surprise and use her momentum and strength to force it to the ground. she'll keep half of her attention on this and half on her companion, so with any luck they won't end up in a bad situation from having ignored each other's needs.

it's clear that the battlefield is a place she is very comfortable with and it's almost as though she feels she belongs there. in a way, she fights better than she talks. military actions, the command structure of her life, and the actions she takes as she fights this all seem to resonate better than simple conversation and interactions have so far. this is where she should be and fighting these things is giving her something to do here. she likes it and she'll be sorry to see them go. ]

[ Data can certainly move much faster than a human in all aspects, but there's less of a difference in his speed on foot. He's quiet, though, certain of his movements and without hesitation, which is where a lot of his advantage comes in.

As accustomed to combat as he is, it is far from his own preferred habitat. He's more than competent, but physical altercations - and far worse, killing a living being - are things he cannot bring himself to relish by his very nature. This, today, is all a question of protecting fellow inmates. His strength and reflexes are only the most obvious of his advantages; his nature as an artificial life form also enables him to remain alert of his ally's movements, status, and position, as well as monitor for potential threats even as he engages the second.

As she forces the first to the ground, he takes on that second one - aiming a rapid blow first at a vulnerable point in its neck and then its head, he knocks it off of its balance and leaves it disoriented. ]
