250 - Fear Itself Mingle
[ Today is a day where most would be at risk of oversleeping.The dome lies dark like in the dead of night. The sun hasn’t risen today, streetlights casting a dull yellow glow and occasionally flickering out into nothing, only to spark back to life a moment later. There is no electric flicker from the kiosk. The Wardens are still. The wardens are silent.

The dome isn’t silent. There is a rustling of leaves, a snapping of twigs. Claws, scraping against concrete. The inhuman screech of an animal in peril, an animal hunting, an animal hunted. A screech that promises sharp claws and sharper teeth and blood.

The dome isn’t still either. There is something moving, thick as a shadow, tangible as a chill down your spine. Something that doesn’t belong here, something that snuck in when no one was looking. A boogeyman under the bed. A ghost in the closet. A will o’ the wisp, blinking in and out of existence under the flickering streetlights. Whatever it is it’s moving, leaving a trail of cold, dead fear wherever it passes. Something dark. A shadow so pitch black that it blots out the very lights in your heart, dragging your fears out screaming and kicking, reducing even the strongest, toughest man to a blubbering baby.

Perhaps best to stay in bed today, Marina. ]

[Wally doesn't immediately spot the robot scurrying across the wall, too busy focusing on his wound instead, but it's hard to miss when it starts beeping like that. Gingerly, he takes a few steps closer to where the robot had settled on the wall to get a better look and notices that it's not quite a type of bot he recalls seeing around the dome before.]

What the...? [Cautiously, he reaches up with the hand that's not clutching his side to see if he can grab the robot. Hopefully the red light just means a camera is on and not that it can shoot laser beams.]

[Backpack is not exactly a small robot--about the size of a normal bookbag that a high schooler would wear--but it is fast on its legs, shifting out of the way of his hand and beeping again. It's sending the video to Gear, who was surprised when he saw the footage of someone with a lightning bolt on his chest looking like a reverse flash. And he looks injured.

He hurries down the block, picking up speed on his skates to get to the side of the movie theater.]

Oh dude, are you okay?

[Wally makes a final lunging attempt to grab one of Backpack's legs, but the only thing the act accomplishes is making the pain in his side worse as the robot moves out of his reach. And in hindsight, trying to seize it probably wasn't the brightest idea to begin with, but he knows that all the dome's bots are offline at the moment and they still have no clue about what's causing the problems today.

But before he can ponder if there's a connection between the robot and the dome's problems some more, a voice draws his attention away and he turns his head to see a guy wearing what he can only assume is some sort of a superhero(?) costume.]

That depends on your definition of okay.

[He pulls the hand that's clutching his injured side away just long enough for Gear to see the ripped uniform and bloody gash where the raptor's claw got him just above the waist.]

One of those things got a lucky swipe in. I really don't think it's that bad, but I probably couldn't even outrun an old lady right now.

[Backpack immediately jumps from the wall and scurries it's way to where Gear is standing, sending him a flurry of data and letting him know that there are no raptors currently spotted in the area. Gear is way more concerned about the gash and the bleeding and that is never good.]

That...is like the exact opposite of my definition of okay. Backpack, liquid patch!

[The robot takes the cue and moves closer to the redhead, the little hatch in the top opening up to reveal what looks to be a tentacle holding a tiny can.] It's not a perfect fix, but it's like super liquid band-aid. Totally water poof with enough elasticity to not tear from moving too much.

You okay with him using it on you?

[He carefully raises his left arm out of the way so Backpack can apply the liquid patch.] You know I was wondering what the deal with this guy was. [Backpack is very careful about peeling the torn costume back so that it's not caught in the bandage when he sprays it on. Which might feel like ice before it completely solidifies.]

Backpack? Yeah, it took a while, but I finally finished him a couple weeks ago. [After having to rebuild him since the last one was left in the old prison.] He's like the 3.8 version of the one I had back home. Robo-sidekicks were totally in.

If by that you mean, see him in action, sure. [He isn't telling anyone exactly what makes Backpack tick. That's a little too personal considering the neural link he has with the robot. Backpack beeps and then scurries up Richie's back and settles in his standby position, looking like a metal book bag for all intents and purposes.]

Now come on, let's get to somewhere a bit safer. [He motions to the north.] That direction has turned out pretty secure so far.

[He always feels a little bit high off of attention when people like him. Gear. He's so used to Static getting all the media spotlight and the hero worship. He shakes Kid Flash's hand, but it's brief, since he thinks it's probably not that comfortable given the placement of that cut.]

Well, it was kind of cheating considering. [He motions with his head to Backpack.] But thanks. Who's the hero from Dakota? We don't have that many around. Really, the only other people who come in are Shebang and Rubberband Man.
