250 - Fear Itself Mingle
[ Today is a day where most would be at risk of oversleeping.The dome lies dark like in the dead of night. The sun hasn’t risen today, streetlights casting a dull yellow glow and occasionally flickering out into nothing, only to spark back to life a moment later. There is no electric flicker from the kiosk. The Wardens are still. The wardens are silent.

The dome isn’t silent. There is a rustling of leaves, a snapping of twigs. Claws, scraping against concrete. The inhuman screech of an animal in peril, an animal hunting, an animal hunted. A screech that promises sharp claws and sharper teeth and blood.

The dome isn’t still either. There is something moving, thick as a shadow, tangible as a chill down your spine. Something that doesn’t belong here, something that snuck in when no one was looking. A boogeyman under the bed. A ghost in the closet. A will o’ the wisp, blinking in and out of existence under the flickering streetlights. Whatever it is it’s moving, leaving a trail of cold, dead fear wherever it passes. Something dark. A shadow so pitch black that it blots out the very lights in your heart, dragging your fears out screaming and kicking, reducing even the strongest, toughest man to a blubbering baby.

Perhaps best to stay in bed today, Marina. ]

[ while kelly might not be too bloody, eric is using his fangs as a weapon. he's covered in dinosaur blood. there's even a bit of his own blood on him.

they'll make an excellent team then because eric's pain tolerance is high even for a vampire. part of that is due to his experiences with pain, and part to his age.

he sees the woman fighting the raptors near him, but he doesn't offer any help. she obviously has this under control. once the raptors are all dead or gone, eric looks to the woman. ]

Are you experienced at killing raptors, or are you just that pissed off as well?

I'm a Spartan. We're fighters.

[ let's just say she's an experienced killer. treating these things like they're covenant elites is just the beginning. at least these guys don't have active camo or energy blades. that makes her life just a little bit easier here. ]

They don't have guns lying around, do they? [ even though she can fight like this, she's much more comfortable with a firearm. ]

	[ Oh well that explains so much, except not. Eric does narrow his eyes at her term 'Spartans' because he knows before there were vikings there were Spartans and they were legendary even in his time. [ they might not be those spartans of the ancient world, but these future ones were named after them for a very specific reason. if eric can put together the reference, he might be able to understand kelly better than most anyone else. and why the covenant soldiers think "spartan" is the human word for "demon."

right now, though, he doesn't seem to understand that being a spartan means she's been trained to fight for her entire life, so she pauses to figure out how to explain that without giving away classified information. ]

Fighting is what Spartans do best. [ they're fighting a losing war back in her universe, after all. ] What are you? I've never seen a human [ a human who isn't a spartan anyway ] fight like you.

[ she knows plenty of marines and odst fighters who would be able to put up a good fight if they had plenty of ammo and a good deal of distance between themselves and these things, but since they have neither here she's forced to conclude that he's not human. and because of her experience with an organization made up of alien races convinced that the human species should be wiped out of the universe, that realization is making her extremely wary. she doesn't want to have to fight him, too, but if he hates humanity the way the covenant does, he'd rather go down fighting her than team up with her to ensure they both survive against this other, more powerful and mutual enemy. better to die and take down the human demon than let it live. ]
