[ It's been a long day. An eternity or perhaps just a few minutes, seconds, heartbeats since he woke up to an empty bed and an even emptier apartment. It wasn't too hard to swallow back the panic at first, keep it at bay with positive thinking and the stubborn task of looking in every nook and cranny, of testing the line over and over and over again because sooner or later he would turn up. He'd pick up the call. He was probably just busy, or out in Sector 6 or taking a bath.

He'd show up, sooner or later.

Morning turns to day turns to evening and he's still alone. By now the panic is all-consuming, squeezing at his heart until he can't even breathe. Fingers shaking, Aidan flicks on the audio feed. One last ditch effort. ]

Has anyone- [ But he stops himself there. Sometimes you know the answer all too well. So well that you don't want it confirmed more than you've already done yourself. He draws a deep breath, steadies himself for another short minute. ]

If anyone wants t' know... I know he had a few friends here. Probably more than he knew. Helix is...

Helix is gone.

[ With that he cuts the feed, abruptly, tugs the headpiece off just as frantically before heading down to the beach. He can't think of any other place to go. ]

((ooc: Anyone is welcome to find him down at the beach! Audio responses will be icly delayed seeing as he's pretty damn heartbroken, but they will be responded to eventually. ))

[Lacus herself goes to watch the sea when she's upset, that and knowing Aidan make it one of the first places she looks for him when she ventures out. Whether she can help is doubtful. They've all lost people, important people, but this is different. Kira's loss is fresh still and there's no dulling it. She'll try anyway. He'd do no less for her.]

[When she sees him on the beach, concern is tempered by a flash of memory, Kira staring out at the waves and mourning the world and people he thought he'd failed. It's so close and sharp that Lacus takes a moment to catch her breath before proceeding to Aidan's side.]

[She lays a hand on his shoulder, much as he put his arm around her when they last sat here together.] May I stay with you a while?

[ Aidan isn't entirely convinced that he can handle other people right now, but Lacus never counted as that. She's younger than him and yet he's always thought of her as a surrogate mom, someone he can come to when life is just too damn hard and that is exactly what it is today. Too damn hard. For the first time since he arrived, he can really feel the crushing depth of the ocean.

He doesn't move much when she approaches. Doesn't turn to look at her, although there is the slightest flinch at the touch of her hand before he relaxes, perhaps for the first time since he woke up. It's subtle and doesn't take the dead stare out of his eyes. Water. ]

Yeah... 'course you can. I ain't goin' nowhere.

[Then neither is she, for a little while at least. Even if there's nothing she can do but try to let Aidan know he's not alone.]

I know it's not all right, and it's not fair. [She knows that so well, as do many among them. She's feeling it a little herself now too, Helix was a dear friend of hers. Nothing like what Aidan's feeling, of course, but she has no desire to deny her own grief.] But I love you and if there's anything at all that could help, I'll do whatever I can.

[She wasn't going to say anything. Hearing Helix's name definitely got her attention. She'd had run ins with him—tried to help him, though she doubts he took any of it that way.

She knows the man doing the talking is named Aidan and that he runs a garden project. Boyfriend to Helix. But she's never actually talked to him. She's talked to his body before, but he wasn't exactly in charge of it at the time. Complicated lives and all that.

She's lost enough people to know nothing someone is going to say is going to make him feel better about it. She's also not the "feel better about yourself" patrol. But...sometimes it kind of sucks to be alone even when you think you want to be.]

Thanks for letting us know.

[Mal's not the best at being comforting or anything like that. In fact, he's more than willing to drink his sorrows under the table and then fight someone. So his first thought when Aidan left the message, Mal had originally decided to ignore it and leave the kid alone.

Sometimes our best laid plans go awry. On his way to the stables for his morning ride, Mal saw Aidan. Switching gear, he backtracked until he found somewhere he could buy decent liquor at this hour. Then he saddled two horses. Mal swung into the saddle and led the other horse out to the beach where Aidan sat looking forlorn.]

[ Normally when he was feeling down, the stables was a good place to be. Warm, comforting, familiar smells... too familiar for a day like today and although Aidan has been an adult for years now he never wanted his mom more than he does right now.

He looks up briefly at the sound of someone approaching, but quickly bows his head again when he sees that it's Mal. Sheepish, maybe even shameful, he brushes a hand back through his hair. ]

[You know who else loves the beach? This guy.

Pant legs rolled up to just beneath his knees, they're damp from sloshing around in the shallows and layered with sand from strolling along the dunes. If anything the beach is the most freeing place in this pathetic dome, simulated as it may be. He's poetically unshaven and slightly messy in appearance, and when he lays eyes on Aidan it's over the rim of his glasses.

[ They weren't friends—they never had been—but Saya had counted Aiden and Helix both as hers. It was later that Hei found Aiden at the beach and it was only after careful deliberation that he slipped off his shoes to walk across the sand. He did not wish to disturb Aiden's grief, he merely meant to support it. One shake of his head and Hei will keep on walking, but he made it known, in look and with intent, that he was there. Drawing near, he gave a quiet nod of hello and then paused, turning to stare at the ocean for a moment before turning back to Aiden, waiting for a sign of yay or nay.

Hei knew what it was like to lose a friend. He knew what it was like to lose a loved one. It was difficult at best. ]
