[ It's been a long day. An eternity or perhaps just a few minutes, seconds, heartbeats since he woke up to an empty bed and an even emptier apartment. It wasn't too hard to swallow back the panic at first, keep it at bay with positive thinking and the stubborn task of looking in every nook and cranny, of testing the line over and over and over again because sooner or later he would turn up. He'd pick up the call. He was probably just busy, or out in Sector 6 or taking a bath.

He'd show up, sooner or later.

Morning turns to day turns to evening and he's still alone. By now the panic is all-consuming, squeezing at his heart until he can't even breathe. Fingers shaking, Aidan flicks on the audio feed. One last ditch effort. ]

Has anyone- [ But he stops himself there. Sometimes you know the answer all too well. So well that you don't want it confirmed more than you've already done yourself. He draws a deep breath, steadies himself for another short minute. ]

If anyone wants t' know... I know he had a few friends here. Probably more than he knew. Helix is...

Helix is gone.

[ With that he cuts the feed, abruptly, tugs the headpiece off just as frantically before heading down to the beach. He can't think of any other place to go. ]

((ooc: Anyone is welcome to find him down at the beach! Audio responses will be icly delayed seeing as he's pretty damn heartbroken, but they will be responded to eventually. ))

[She wasn't going to say anything. Hearing Helix's name definitely got her attention. She'd had run ins with him—tried to help him, though she doubts he took any of it that way.

She knows the man doing the talking is named Aidan and that he runs a garden project. Boyfriend to Helix. But she's never actually talked to him. She's talked to his body before, but he wasn't exactly in charge of it at the time. Complicated lives and all that.

She's lost enough people to know nothing someone is going to say is going to make him feel better about it. She's also not the "feel better about yourself" patrol. But...sometimes it kind of sucks to be alone even when you think you want to be.]

Thanks for letting us know.

[There. He can reply or not. His court is the one with a ball in it.]

[ At first, he has no intention of responding but his parents didn't raise him to be that rude and some habits are hard to break. Besides, he knows this woman. They talked once, even if he wasn't really in charge of what was being said and Helix has mentioned her a few times. Not all good, but still... how could he not know who the leader of the Defence Force is? ]

'Course. People should know. [ A pause as he tries to clear his throat. ] Kitty, right?

Can't say I was ever all that worried about it. [She would not have taken it as seriously as Suzaku did. But then she was a rebel, not a police officer like him.]

He's not a big fan of authority. [She never expected to be the authority. Especially when she feels like the point of the Defense Force is once again to rebel against the establishment of the wardens. Not to enforce their rules or set up new ones.]

It is... but you'd be surprised if you knew how much he actually likes. Ain't exactly somethin' he flaunts.

[ He doesn't even need to close his eyes to see what Helix looked like when he wasn't trying to be tough. He could be sweet and tender, full of sunshine and warmth, childish glee, wonderment... the way his eyes lit up or that smile he probably wasn't even aware of himself. The private moments, whether it was at home or out on a crowded dance floor. The way he could be so caring. So few people got to see that and Aidan always thought it was a shame.

Now they never will.

It's been ages since he last managed to cry, but something in this deceptively casual conversation is hitting the right nerve, bringing the right images to mind and before he knows it he's choked up, eyes burning wetness. ]

Shoot...

[Is he...? He is, isn't he?

There's a small throat clearing on her side. She's not sure what to say. It hasn't been that long since she last cried, but it was the first time in a very, very long time for her, and it was one of those "strange" days in the dome, so not entirely her. She thought she'd forgotten how. Maybe she did.

Maybe she forgot how to be comforting somewhere along the way too. They didn't have the luxury of stopping and feeling or maybe that was just her. Even when her students died and others reached out she pushed them away. Not that she needs to push when she can make herself completely intangible.]

...It's better that way. [Letting it out. Anger isn't the only thing that builds up too much on the inside sometimes.]
