Evening 241 } Action } Open Mingle
[ As mentioned by the wardens yesterday, Eric is hosting a costume party. The Blood Shack is lit by candles for the evening (he remembers the last party he had being interrupted by a power outage) and a small buffet of sorts has been erected. It furnishes mostly hors d'oeuvre and finer foods, things that Caroline picked out as Eric hasn't a clue about human food.

There is blood on tap (naturally) as well as a full bar. Eric has made certain to include water, sodas, tea and various non-alcoholic drinks.

The jukebox is playing a variety of music, but patrons are always invited to pick out their own music. The dance floor has a disco ball and there's the ever present 'dancing' pole on stage if someone gets brave. Tables are scattered about as are sofas and chairs so that people have a choice where they sit.

Enjoy yourself, mix, mingle and admire everyone's costume and everyone is required to have a costume in order to be here. ]

[ elena is here for uh, the fun? the normalcy? - as caroline put it. still, you're more likely to find her by the bar for a moment alone or searching for the comfort of being around caroline and bonnie than actually having normal fun.

she's a musketeer and she's not the only one. caroline and bonnie are around somewhere in matching get-ups.

this is what she gets for jokingly suggesting they go as the three sexy musketeers~ ]

[She hasn't seen Bonnie or Caroline -- in fact, she's not even aware that Caroline is also at the prison. It probably wouldn't surprise her considering most of the people from Mystic Falls seem to be stuck in Marina. But she does spot Elena and she hesitates, almost deciding to go the other way. Something makes her move toward the younger woman instead. She finds herself wanting to make sure Elena is doing all right with everything, now that she, too, is a vampire. She can still remember how hard the transition had been for her, and she had her mother to help her through it, and they weren't trapped in a prison at the time.]

Hey. How's it going? [Small talk isn't something she's great at, especially when it comes to people she knows don't particularly like her. But hey, she's trying?]

[ she hasn't seen anna yet -- and while the wariness towards her is still present, it's tempered however little by their conversation. somehow, anna is the first person elena confessed what she was to - the first person outside of her friends and family, at least. she pulls in a breath, turning towards her, and takes her costume in. ] Hey. [ still, she's not unfriendly. ] Nice outfit.

[She knows this isn't the time or place to really inquire more about how Elena's actually dealing with things even though she wonders.] Are there a lot of parties here? Thanks. [ there's almost a smile there, even though she can't bring herself to make a real one. anna might have shown her compassion, so many things might have changed between that day in that motel room and now, but she also can't forgot how anna once used her ruthlessness against her and bonnie. against jeremy. yet she can't be entirely unwelcoming either. ] And actually, yeah. People like the distraction. I guess it gives us the opportunity to see each other.

[Anna's done a lot of things she regrets. And maybe being here, in this place, she'll be able to reach some kind of redemption. Maybe. She's pretty sure that Elena's trying her very best to be friendly with her considering the circumstances. She won't put her through it much longer.]

Yeah, I suppose it does. [She pauses, glancing away for a moment and then back at Elena.] Well, I hope you have a good time tonight. As good as a person can have in prison, anyway.

[ anna's farewell isn't abrupt, but she understands its meaning and why it comes so soon. maybe that's why she blinks a little and makes the decision to stall her a moment, before she can walk away. ] Anna. [ she pauses once she has the girl's attention. needs a moment to find the resolve, the words. ] I might not ever be able to forgive what you did to Jeremy. What you were going to do. I might not trust you. But I... know you were just trying to save your mother. [ that she was in pain and wanted some kind of revenge. ] And as much as I hate it, I... know you feel something for Jeremy too.

[ they're not friends. they're not even allies. but these things mean something. elena has been through enough in the past few years, done enough bad for the good of her friends and family, to know that they do. ] I just want you to know that.

[She's actually caught off guard by Elena's words. The mention of Jeremy's name makes her stomach tighten. She misses him so much it's physically painful.] I don't expect forgiveness. I've done a lot of things that...

[She shakes her head.] I was alone for 150 years. I'm not trying to excuse what I did. I just wanted my mom back. [She smooths her dress down, more of a nervous gesture than anything.] I never saw Jeremy coming. [She figured Elena would understand what she meant by that.]

[ there's nothing to gain from feeling so harshly about anna. not here, not now. there was nothing to gain before; it was about protecting jeremy first and foremost, because there were so many reasons not to trust her. she hurt her brother, she fed her blood to pearl for revenge; that kind of ruthlessness is something she knows intimately and therefore cannot forget. not for elena, and not when it comes to her brother. and she sees how caught off guard anna is, how her confessions pains her. (she misses jeremy too and cannot help but feel a softer compassion towards her. she might be the only other person here who truly knows what it is to miss jeremy.)

she can respect anna's answer. that she doesn't want forgiveness or to give excuses. she can understand just wanting her mother back. (she thinks she'd do no less.)

she understands what anna means about not seeing someone coming all too well. ] I'm glad. In a way. Love has a way of... showing people they're not alone. [ and in this case it saved jeremy's life. ]

[ if the sight of damon, uniformed or not, causes any reaction from elena, it definitely shows. she was working her way through a group of people when he walks into her path. somehow she can't stop the blink and soft intake of breath - despite how entirely unaffected she has decided to be.

despite the compulsion rebekah put on her days ago. the edges of her lips are straight as she takes in his costume, his comment, and his offer. ] My costume does come with a sword. [ js. she's taking his glass of bourbon, her gaze skirting to the side. she's not thinking of being compelled at all. :| she downs it. you're welcome damon. ]

[ there's a pressure in her chest. 'please tell me...' following by a drop in her stomach. the sudden fear and hope and anticipation at what she's supposed to blindly do -

(she's not afraid. through it all she has not been afraid of him for anything he'd have her do however unknowingly. she's not. she's full of hope for so many reasons and that's frightening. she wants rebekah's compulsion to work.)

but nothing comes of it and instead she's faced with a tightness in her throat. it's frustration, and her teeth grit at it, at him. one of the fun parts of being a vampire, she's found, is how overwhelming already overwhelming emotions can be. damon beckons a whole slew of them.

(she's not mad at him. they are what they've always been. she's upset. she's upset for a list of reasons that fill her with a kind of anger and combination of emotions that she can barely sort through.)

she sighs, scoffs; her amusement is pained and witless. she hasn't been trying to reach out to him. she's wanted to, and she feels every inch of that desire now, looking at him. ] I'm not mad, Damon. [ no, she's much more than that. ]

You don't have to listen to me. [ Like he'd ever expected her to is what the look on his face says. So he's a little hurt that she'd trust an Original over him, but whatever. Elena's always making the choices for herself. Her life. Her way. It's how it's always been. ]

So that's it? An Original's compulsion trumps sire bond? [ Where was an Original when you needed one back in the 40's, hm? ]

Is that all she compelled you to do?

her eyes lift to his. (she never has listened to him. she doesn't want to, not like that. yet there's space between them now; something feels severed.

she has regrets and desires she shouldn't have, for that link back. for... them to have figured it out, together.) ] And I don't know. I thought we should try it.

She might have compelled you to think that. [ What is he even supposed to get her to do? He's never attempted to test out the sire bond. ]

I guess you thought that if you'd told me about your little plan to get compelled out of the sire bond that I would have stopped you. [ Just like how all this would never have been necessary if he'd been there to save her instead of Stefan. It seems like all he ever does is try to take away her ability to decide things for herself. ]
