Day 222 — Mandatory activity mingle
[ It's a wonderful, stormy day here in Squall Asylum and vacation time is officially over! Your gracious overlords have worked out a light itinerary for you today and they expect you to keep it.

Get in line to pick up your food rations for the day. Eat breakfast if you have time for it, or perhaps you'd rather skip this one time and save yourself the discomfort during the two hours of exercise that follow. Jogging, jumping jacks or perhaps impromptu team sports, whatever you end up doing you bet you'll come out exercised in the end!

Should you not want to participate... well. We have ways to make you join in. Anyone reluctant to get their heart rate up will get a helpful electric prod by one of the bots until they comply. Tough cookies.

Luckily you'll get a chance to wash off that sweat (hope you're not shy, the wash room can get crowded) before it's time for the silent game for an hour, followed by lunch. The day is not over yet though! There's still time for a couple of hours of hard labor tending to the crops, doing laundry or perhaps breaking bricks in the yard. To make sure none of the inmates are broken this is also the time for mandatory physical checkups — bots will guide you to the hospital. No ifs or buts. The violation of personal privacy is for your own good, we promise.

Isn't it nice, being in prison? ]

((ooc: This mingle takes place during all of day 222. A bullet-point for of the itinerary can be found here, where we also encourage you to direct any questions. Event info is here if you need it. ))

[ buffy doesn't often get along with authority figures; she hasn't had many problems with the wardens in the other prison, but she's got a great deal of freedom in the other prison, which makes a huge difference when dealing with a buffy. yard work isn't something she's looking forward to, particularly sans slayer abilities and she puts up quite an argument at one point, muttering, snapping and griping that she'd get a lot more done a whole lot faster if they'd take the anklet off, which is sort of a lie. she might get more done, but then it's also likely she'd just have more power to rebel with.

the long and short of it, buffy got shocked. more than once. it's not that it didn't hurt; it did, quite a lot. it hurt enough to bring tears to her eyes, but buffy, even de-powered, is stubborn. despite her stubbornness, she does end up working in the yard, a bit tingly but working.

later she can be found in the kitchens poking at the rations she's got and trying to figure out what to do with them. come take pity on her or commiserate with her. either one works. ]

[First they take away his powers, then they decide to ration his food? Bart's a speedster - the lack of food's been slowly eating away at him (literally).

He stumbles into the kitchen, half-dead, before he gives Buffy a nod of acknowledgement.]
Rough day? [He says, barely able to keep himself steady - thank god he's leaning against the counter, 'else he'd topple over.]

[ buffy tilts her head toward one shoulder in a sort of shrug. ] I could have made it easier on myself. [ and yet she doesn't sound as if she'd change it. ] You don't look good though. What happened?

[ if she sounds concerned, it's because she is. ]

Yet you don't really regret it. [Bart can't blame her. The schedule's brutal, even by his standards.]

My metabolism's all wonky thanks to the ankle-things. I'll get over it soon enough. [He shrugs nonchalantly, steadying himself better.] Not like we're staying here forever, right?

[Buffy shakes her head, because he's right; she doesn't.]

I hope not and yeah, the anklets are a pain.

You're telling me. I didn't think I'd actually be slow when it counted.

[Bart's feeling well enough to grab a glass of water, so he does so.] At least on day one, there weren't kitties stuck in trees or something.

Slow? [Yeah, she's asking about his power. She'll show tell you hers, if you'll tell her yours. His comment makes her smile.]

Ah, so you're an official kitten rescuer. Noble job.

The most noble of all, m'lady. [He grins, sliding her a glass of water before he grabs another one for himself.] It takes a speedy kind of guy to snatch 'em up before they know what's happened.

I'd show you, but usually? You'd have to move at the speed of light to catch me.

[ Physical labor is so not his forte and although he got lucky and spent the first half of the work period in the laundry facility, he's shipped off to the yard after undergoing the physical. Not a great day, but he's not so worn down that he doesn't notice Buffy taking a few shocks from the bots. ]

Hey... you okay? [ Quietly and cautiously. Let's not do any more of the electrocution, please. ]

[She's still wiggling her fingers and toes experimentally. That hurt more than she's used to things hurting. ] Well, I didn't forget my name or pee my pants...but seriously...

[She'll fix Reid with a serious look.]

How's my hair?

[Because it may have hurt more than she's used to, but pain is part of a slayer's life and she had asked for it.]

[ It takes him a little longer than it should to actually register what she's asking. Okay then. ]

It's, uh... it's fine. You look fine. [ Welp. ]

[She's trying to make light of the situation. She rolls a shoulder and stretches her arm out.]

I'm not sure how that's supposed to motivate us to work. I mean beyond the ow I don't want it to happen again factor. There's the numb fingers factor too.

Maybe that's exactly what they're hoping for... a primitive but effective way of encouragement.

[Laura hadn't fought too much against being sent to the yard to work and break bricks, but she is keeping her eyes out for the behavior of the robots monitoring them. They need to know what they're actions may be if they are stuck there for an extended period of time.

Buffy's not far away from where she works. Close enough that when she swings too hard on a brick and a chunk breaks off to go flying, look cools up and calls out.]
Projectile incoming.

[ Buffy doesn't have her reflexes because of the anklet so she doesn't quite get out of the way, but she does dodge enough that it hits her shoulder. It nicks her just enough with a sharp edge to draw blood. She hisses and wipes the blood off with the heel of her hand.]

I'm sure someone adult and authorative would say we need safety goggles out here.

[Laura sees the blood and freezes for a moment, unsure what to say. It was not intentional to hurt anyone, but she was not being careful enough. And Buffy was reacting as if it was nothing.]

...I did not mean to strike you. [It is close enough to an apology.]
