Please tell me they have something synthetic on tap at that vampire bar everyone keeps raving about.

[ he leave a few holes in this filter, a teeny tiny backdoor in through it the right people are looking at it who have the know and the how to find it should be able to locate, nevermind find their way past. it's done deliberately, out of curiosity and personal need-to-know for possible future reference. never hurts to know who's sitting up there with you in the technological savvy. ]

If you've made it this far, then you're someone I'm interested in knowing. I'm Nikola Tesla, and you are...?

They do. It doesn't taste half-bad either but I still prefer blood bags myself. Personal preference.

Usually, I'd just head down to the lab and whip up a batch of the serum I perfected back in the 1890s, but something tells me I'm not going to have an easy time getting my hands on the necessary ingredients, if at all. I can stomach settling for someone else's synthetic if that means abstaining from drinking anything more or less real.

[ because he hasn't tasted actual blood in a very, very long time and he'd rather not let himself get a taste of it with the potential to go off the rails if he help it. ]

The synthetic stuff does satisfy the hunger and it keeps you from seeking to feed from people. A pity that you wouldn't be able to make your serum because I would try it to see if it would be a good substitute for the things I'm used to.

Just say the word and I'll show you where to go, Nikola.

If I had the means to make it, I'd be happy to share it.

Actually... I was wondering if I could ask a favor.

Could you bring the blood to me? I've already had a few jump to the vampire conclusion, and I've deliberately led them astray. Showing up at the blood bar would make me out to be a liar, and no matter how true that is, I make a point to keep my vampirism to myself for a reason.

[ Peggy wasn't one to usually walk around after dark, but after so many days cooped up with her books and her research, it had felt good to get out and exercise and the stables were truly a joy to make use of. Still, after an afternoon of riding, she's tired and, unfortunately, in need of a shower, but she's immensely pleased with herself as is. Making her way home, she shouldn't be hard to run into, or, if preferred, Tesla is more then welcome to find her before she leaves the stable. It is, after all, open to the public. ]

[ open to the public and reminiscent of the era he originally belonged to, the one he would've died in had a case of self-experimentation not led to immortality. while nikola was rather at home in the modern world, thriving in its technological wonderland like good futurist should, there were some things he missed about the past. (emphasis on some.) he wasn't terribly fond of riding, but in a place where there were no cars, buses, or trains, it was either ride or walk. ]

Little surprised everyone hasn't claimed a horse of their own with how lazy the world's become. [ hi peggy. he's talking to you, if only by virtue of you happening to be there. ]

[ It took her but a moment to make sure he was speaking to her and not his horse. Quirking her lips up, she continued leading her chosen horse towards an empty stall, done with riding for the day. As she drew near, she nodded. ]

From my understanding, not everyone has had the privilege to learn how to ride. Perhaps they're holding back out of fear, rather than laziness.

Yes, not everyone has a mommy and daddy with the bank accounts to put a pony in their backyard. Shame. I remember a time when it was either ride or walk -- if you weren't taking a train or knew someone with a carriage who could spare or a seat or two, that is. From mode of transportation to recreational activity. [ he makes a tsking noise, reaching out a hand for the nearest horse in the stall to his immediate left to sniff at. ]

Would that be a fear of riding itself, or a fear of what horses kept by this place are capable of?

[ she doesn't mind his tirade; in fact, she's heard like minded stories from her grandmother and her parents in their day. ]

Fear of riding itself. A horse can be a dangerous creature if held unchecked.

[ but she pats the neck of her horse and leads him into an empty stall, moving with ease and familiarity as she begins the task of removing his tack. ]

And quite frankly, isn't that a bit unfair? If there's a better means of transportation, shouldn't we develop it? [ and she can hardly forget Mr. Stark's flying car. Why, pretty soon, no one will even need to touch the ground. ]

Naturally.

However, what was the point of this exercise? Just to see who can or to actually create a dialog with those who are successful?

[Tieria always had a purpose or goal in mind. If this wasn't going to go any further, he wasn't going to continue a conversation that had no point.]

[ oh, nikola had a point. he always has a point, but whether or not he shares his point with others isn't exactly common occurrence. helen's protégé put it best when he said that nikola was always hiding something, always working on some secret, hidden plan that he refused to share with the class. ]

A little of both, though admittedly more the former. I like to know who stands a chance of being on the same level as I am. [ not an insult, simply fact from his pov. he's nikola tesla, after all, and is quite used to being one of the most intelligent minds to ever walk the earth. ] People I could stand to work with, were I forced to share my toys and play with the other kids.

[At least his tone wasn't smug. There were enough of them around, too.]

I see.

[Tieria considered it for a moment. When he did speak, he sounded maybe a little haughty, but nothing that wasn't factual or meant to be gloating over his own abilities.]

There won't be many, but you might find a few more who can access your message.

[Which actually made Tieria a little more intrigued in the other part of the message he hadn't hacked. The one without the holes.]

Partly based on skill, partly based on interest in trying.

The plural form of datum -- Latin, meaning "something given." You were given a given name. [ grin. his sense of humor can be a little all over the place at times. ]

I've never heard of Starfleet, Commander. Which means you're either from a division of NASA that's managed to keep itself under wraps -- highly unlikely -- or you're from another time. Given the nature of this place, my money's on the latter.
