Please tell me they have something synthetic on tap at that vampire bar everyone keeps raving about.

[ he leave a few holes in this filter, a teeny tiny backdoor in through it the right people are looking at it who have the know and the how to find it should be able to locate, nevermind find their way past. it's done deliberately, out of curiosity and personal need-to-know for possible future reference. never hurts to know who's sitting up there with you in the technological savvy. ]

If you've made it this far, then you're someone I'm interested in knowing. I'm Nikola Tesla, and you are...?

[ The backdoor is apparent, of course - but even more fascinatingly so, it's the deliberation of it that stands out. Too neatly done to be an oversight. When your brain happens to be a computer, it stands out like a beacon.

And then there's the name Nikola Tesla. That also stands out. ]

Greetings. I am Data.

Just Data?

[ if he sounds amused, it's because he is. your name, sir, is hella ironic, especially in this particular situation. ]

That is my given name, yes.

[ He generally hasn't been introducing himself with his rank, given their setting, but if he's being asked - ]

Lieutenant Commander Data, inclusive of my Starfleet rank.

The plural form of datum -- Latin, meaning "something given." You were given a given name. [ grin. his sense of humor can be a little all over the place at times. ]

I've never heard of Starfleet, Commander. Which means you're either from a division of NASA that's managed to keep itself under wraps -- highly unlikely -- or you're from another time. Given the nature of this place, my money's on the latter.

[ Well. That's pretty immediately apparent. ] Indeed.

[ But he'll just move right on. ]

The latter is more likely to be correct. I am from the what is Earth's year 2373. NASA has not been in operation for over three hundred years in my timeline.

That's the one. It was 2011 in my neck of the woods, so we've got ourselves a regular temporal paradox. A convergence of times not meant to communicate with one another -- wondrous, isn't it?

[ nikola, stop being fascinated with the dome and actually enjoying being here. ]

It does present a unique opportunity to learn more about varying chronological points across an unknown number of timelines, and potentially to develop an understanding of the manner in which multiple dimensions interact with one another. Though it is not an opportunity to be ignored, I do not believe it can entirely compensate for our imprisonment.

[But the name Nikola Tesla in conjunction with the fact that he speaks with a clear scientific interest, is an interesting collection of parameters. It is only made more interesting when the year is added to the equation.]

Am I correct in assuming that you are a scientist?

Compensate, no, but at least it's something worthwhile to bide our time with. [ and that's very important for someone who doesn't function well in boring settings. emphasis on doesn't function well. ]

Physicist, yes. Of course, you already know that, don't you, Commander?

[That addresses a few queries, though not another.]

Your name is not unfamiliar. Your chronological point of origin, however, would present a temporal contradiction within my own timeline.

Or I'm still making a habit of keeping my head below water. You don't fake your death only to reemerge a few centuries later and shout psych!

According to the date of birth recorded in my own timeline, Doctor Nikola Tesla would reach one hundred and fifty-five years of age in the year from which you were taken.

[ And that's old for a human even when Data's from. ]

That's 155 years, 10 months and 3 days, but who's counting?

[ he's... not human. ish. it's complicated, and there's some vampirism mixing in there—but hey, genetic vampires! that's fascinating, right? ]

It would appear that you are.

[ Yes sometimes he does reply to things that were not intended for responses. Curious. Also skeptical. ]

May I inquire as to how it has been possible for you to reach such an advanced age?

[ So tactful. ]

[ it's okay, sometimes he does, too. not for android reasons so much as he's nikola tesla and sometimes that's synonymous with obnoxious. ]

Not at all. I participated in a series of blood experiments in the late 1800s. I'm not exactly at liberty to discuss any of those details, but suffice it to say, I haven't aged a day since. Genetics are a wondrous thing, my friend. Lots of secrets within seemingly ordinary human DNA just waiting to be unlocked.
