Josie knew that her habit of willingly spending time with her mother would be considered strange by most kids around her age, but she honestly didn't care. She liked spending time with her mother, and she wouldn't ever apologize for that. So, the fact that her mother had agreed to spend the night in with her had Josie feeling very happy at the moment. She had ordered dinner for them, and she had hopped in the kitchen as soon as she got home from school to bake some brownies for them to have. She knew that her mother and Lizzie were more social beings, but this was Josie's idea of a fun night. It wasn't that Josie was anti-social, but more that she just wasn't a fan of large crowds. She liked smaller groups of people, so that she could focus on each person. She was always afraid of hurting someone's feelings or someone feeling left out, and this way she knew for sure that they would both get all the attention and fun they needed. She had already chosen a movie for them to watch and of course, it was a Hallmark movie. She loved the fact that her mom was willing to do these little movie fests with her. It was a nice way to spend some time together and for them to share a love of hers. The brownies were cooling on the counter, dinner was already on its way and Josie was already curled up on the couch in her most comfortable pajamas waiting on her mother to join her. As always, she was ready a little early so she didn't mind giving Caroline the time she needed to get ready to settle in for the night. After all, the woman did have two daughters, a fiancé and a life of her own. Josie might enjoy her mother's attention, but she had never been one of those kids that needed that attention twenty-four hours a day. While she was waiting, she decided to pull out her book and do a little more reading. She had already finished her homework for the night, so she decided a little reading just for fun was just what she needed. She had a soft spot for romance novels too, so that is what she had in her hands at the moment. Of course, she chose the ones right for her age, but she had never been able to turn down a good love story. She allowed herself to get lost in the book, and soon enough it was time for her mother to come down and she was still sitting there with her nose buried in the book. |
