"I'm too old for you," Minerva insisted. "I was your teacher once."

"I don't care!" Remus tried to embrace her, but she shied away. "Is it because I'm a werewolf?"

"Of course not!" She frowned. "I'm an Animagus. You're no danger to me. It has nothing to do with you." Her eyes were weary and sad. "You should be with someone your own age. Someone like-"

"Don't say it!" He cut her off sharply.

At the time, he didn't understand, but later, when he tried to fend off Tonks' advances and echoed Minerva's words, he knew exactly how she felt.
