getcho' party hats here!
Who: All the Boston-Elite
What: Black Tie Ball
Where: Shangri-La Hotel on an off-coast Island
When: MARCH 10; 7pm
Rating: TBD
Open? to EVERYONE!

It takes a lot of pull to get heavy hitters from all sides in one place. Most would never dream of stepping foot somewhere where they are not guaranteed the upper hand. Then again, when you're in a power struggle, it never hurts to show up at a fund raising party where it is much, much easier to make sure law officials and other men with power might just lean on your side. Everyone gets a little more chatty with a few drinks in them.

The old renovated hotel is located just fifteen miles off the coast of Boston Harbor. While not open for business, they have turned the entire downstairs into a huge ballroom. The upstairs has been roped off due to renovations still going on, rather preferring to keep the guests in secured areas. In a building built in the 1900's, it's a scene straight out of an old movie. Antique chandeliers hang from the ceiling, with a large fully stocked bar against one wall, and tables lining around a massive dance floor in the middle. Servers are dressed in the "penguin suit" attire, their entire purpose to make the party perfect for the guests.

Nothing less than black ties, tuxedos, and designer gowns is expected, and everyone will just see who has the deepest pockets in Boston. Everything is set and polished, ready for what promises to be the event of the season.

(mod note; feel free to put up threads from anywhere in the noted areas, or even with your characters on the launch boats on the way over. In the 'subject' line of your thread, make sure to put who it is open to, and where your character is. Threads will go up at NOON tomorrow, starting the storm/blackout. Sunday is when the NPC guests will start disappearing. This drama can and will go on into next week, but for schematics of the game, it will all be taking place on "March 10", over the course of the evening/night/morning. HAVE FUN! )

What was better than an occasion to get all dolled up and go out for the night. Boston was known for is extravagent events where anything was likely to happen. It sounded delightly to Caroline. She had been itching to go out and enjoy herself again. As much as she loved being about to save her money, she couldn't at the mention of a ball event. So, she ventured out to New York the week before to find the perfect outfit. The last big event, she had gone with the eleggant white dress. This time around, she would go with a black, thin stapped beaded dress.

It had taken her a while to get ready, as it usually did. She took a deep breath once she had arrived at the event. There were tons of people there, both familiar and not so much. Her hair was half pulled back, half curled and resting on her shoulders. She only carried a small beaded clutch bag with her. A large fancy ring her mother had given her rest on her finger. She kept the makeup light. She didn't want to be the center of attention, at least not fully.

She laced her fingers around a glass of champagne as it was offered to her. She noticed some familiar Italians, and Irish. She only hoped that everyone would play nice tonight. After all, she had been in the line of fire enough in the last year. She would like to see 2009.

“Hey there, Classy Lady” Leoben said with a smile as he tapped Carly on the shoulder before moving swiftly around to face her. In all honesty he’d not expected to see her here and was pleasantly surprised by the familiar face. He’d only ever seen Carly at work, and that was usually behind the bar, so this was a refreshing change. Taking himself a champagne flute from one of the trays that were circulating the room he raised it to his lips, taking a quick sip.

“You scrub up nice” He said casually, raising his champagne glass a little as though he was toasting to her outfit. Leoben was dressed in all black, something Tilda had advised him made him appear pleasantly mysterious. The entire Maddock crew was attending the event of course, by obligation, but Leoben was actually enjoying himself.

Carly turned to face him, smiling brightly. "Oh my God! How are you darling?" she said after exchanging kisses on the cheeks with him. It was indeed nice to see a familiar face, especially one she had rarely seen out of the bar. He looked very nice in his suit. She sipped her drink, smiling at him. "It's nice to see a familiar face I can actually stand." she said truthfully. Sometimes these events were a little dull when you didnt actually bring a date with you.

"And you clean up smashingly yourself." she returned the compliment. She glanced around the room, assuming that the rest of the crowd would be around somewhere.

"I don't know about you, but I am seriously disappointed in the lack of 'pigs in blankets' at this shindig" Lance said as he leaned to speak to Emerson Mordant, the Director of the FBI. Lance was not surprised to see his boss rolls his eyes and then take a few steps away from him, obviously not wanting to be seen with the young, aspiring, hors d'oeuvre critic.

Sighing as he placed a mini quiche into his mouth his eyes quickly scanned the room. Faith had left to go to the ladies room but he'd seen her soon get distracted and start chatting to Lisa on the other side of the room. John was god knows where! Pulling out his iPhone he quickly typed a message to John before impatiently waiting for a reply.

John had been observing the fine craftsmanship of the ornate curtain holdback that he had just broken, when the sweet sound of the Taco Bell chihuahua interrupted several conversations going on around him. Smiling sheepishly and knowing only too well that he’d just received a text message, he pulled his phone out of his suit pocket and began to immediately respond to the message his best friend had just sent him. The response however was not the first one the would have been expected. Reaching into his pocket, John pulled out a strap of red licorice and threw it across the ballroom in the general direction of Lance. With the licorice expelled, John glanced back down at his phone and began to type a reply.

Yo quiero Taco Lance.
Some senora just stepped in your delicioso licorice.
Johcho offers you his protection.

Lance had never seen anything more beautiful flying through the air in his life! This made the scenario especially more depressing when the red licorice landed about a few feet to his left, only to be trampled on by a large set woman in a dress that looked as though it was made out of peacock feathers. Pulling out his cell again, Lance quickly typed out a reply.

Aim a few feet to YOUR right next time!
That, my friend, is why the 11 peacocks we invited are sadly not with us tonight.

ANTOINETTE, AURELIA, LUCAS & RAUL (On the move! Boat to Foyer? Beyond?)
[info]miss_antoinette
2008-03-08 12:15 am UTC (link)
She been to a lot of formal events, and Antoinette Wellington had been known to become slightly demonically wretched during the preparation. She had a tendency to fret, quickly becoming irate about small details; did her dress make her look like a street-walker? Did the bobby pins in her hair look too pointy? Was she likely to fall out of her dress at any point during the night? Would her heels make her taller than Lucas? Dressing for a formal even was not easy, but Antoinette was fairly confident that tonight she had managed to scrub up quite nicely, without instilling Aurelia with fear, or at least not too much.

Antoinette reached down and pulled up the train of her dress, “I should have employed someone to do this for me, you just never think of those things when you buy a dress” she observed with a chuckle as she and Aurelia followed the rest of the formal-attired crowd and made their way towards the hotel, “What do you suppose the going rate for a job like that would be?” she was in good spirits, she would of been hard-pressed to think of a reason why she shouldn’t be; she was in good company and she was off to meet up with Lucas.

Aurelia, on the other hand, had been to her prom. Which, all things considered, hadn't been really formal. God knew she'd gotten away with dressing like a street walker with that. But not for this. Lucas probably would've killed her if she'd worn what she'd debated on wearing.

Still, despite her inexperience with real 'black tie' events, Lia was happy with her final choice in a dress. And Antoinette had approved, which was good. It wasn't too stifling, but it was pretty classy, for a twenty-four year old. And it was soft! But the best part about her dress was the fact that some of her favorite ink still peeked out. The Marilyn Monroe tattoo, the star on her ankle, and probably bits and pieces of the text on her shoulder. That was enough for her. Essentially, it was the best of Lia's world and Antoinette's world!

Vibrant blues glanced down towards Antoinette's train, and she smirked. "I have no idea. But, you know, I could solve that problem for you." The mischief in her eyes was enough to imply that she didn't mean by holding the train for her. "C'mon, A. You'd look incredibly hot in about half of that dress."

Once spoken, she darted a few steps away, a major feat in high heels, and winked. Her spirits were as good as Antoinette's. As well as they should have been. After a moment, she darted close again and glanced ahead towards the rest of the formal-attired crowd. "So, you don't think Luc's gonna kill me for this, do you?" She gestured to her dress. Because, for all she knew, Luc would've made her wear a sack so that no boys ended up staring at her, haha.

Antoinette laughed at the solution to her dilemma, “Oh, no thank-you” she replied, bumping her shoulder playfully against Aurelia’s, “I quite like all of my dress, exactly where it is - however rest assured that if I do grow tired of it, you’ll be the first one that I flag down” she returned her wink with a rather exaggerated one of her own, picking up her pace in an attempt to keep up with the other woman.

“I think that so long as you are in the company of Raul Marino, your brother will behave very peculiarly” the blonde woman replied with a nod, “But it doesn’t mater, because you look absolutely stunning - Lucas is just going to have to accept that tonight you’re going to wipe the floor clean with all these tragically pompy cows, it’s a bloody fact and there’s nothing he can do about it” she added, motioning vaguely towards the other guests, it was always easier to talk big when Lucas wasn’t within earshot.

LUCAS & RAUL (GIRLS ARE SO SLOW!)
[info]spencer_nomore
2008-03-08 02:08 am UTC (link)
Lucas had never been a fan of these things. Having only managed to scathe by with going to his junior prom, he had never quite gotten into the whole tuxedo thing. He'd never so much as been a groomsmen at a wedding. Not until he moved to Boston and Leo insisted he buy a tuxedo for such events had he ever even owned one. He'd worn the same one several times over the years, and as much as he sometimes wished the damn thing would come back destroyed somehow, it was like a cockroach. No matter what he spilled/did to the thing, the dry cleaners always had it back in the same pristine condition.

So wearing his "lucky" tuxedo, Lucas had made it to the party early with most of the Marino family. Leo had made a point to mention he wanted to be there early, if only to scope the place out to make sure the Irish weren't using the party as some strike attack. Nothing seemed out of the ordinary, so now Lucas stood outside in the cold, waiting with Raul for the launch to get there with his girlfriend and sister in tow. Glancing toward Raul, he shook his head a little. As much as he was glad that Raul was going to be looking out for his sister, he didn't entirely like the idea of her being his "date". "Swear to God, if you have pot on you and try to give some to Lia, I'll kick your ass myself."

IN THE BALLROOM [Lisa/Antoinette]
[info]literary_lisa
2008-03-08 12:23 am UTC (link)
For the first night since her baby girl was born Lisa was away from her child. Kate Connelly was currently looking after Bella and although Lisa was fully aware that Kate knew how to take care of a child, and had much experience in the issue, Lisa still found herself worrying immensely. Turning to Andrew, after smoothing out the intentional creases in the skirt of her dress for the hundredth time that night, she pressed her lips lightly to his cheek, “I am going to go just give Kate another call, I forgot to tell her that Bella really likes it when I sing her ‘Octopus's Garden’, and that usually helps her fall asleep easier”

Lisa knew she was being paranoid and worrying over nothing, and that Kate was probably sick of her calling, but she just could not help it. Turning away from Andrew, Lisa walked out of the ballroom towards the area where they had a bunch of flashy looking pay phones. Holding the receiver Lisa no longer had to look at the piece of paper Kate had given her with the home number on it, she now knew it off by heart. Of course Kate was doing fine with Bella, and was happy to assure Lisa that everything was OK and that she would call if anything came up. Lisa apologized for being silly before hanging up, only to turn around and lock eyes with Antoinette.

Offering her former BFF, but still currently her BFF in secret, a small nod she moved to stand beside her, of course not acknowledging that she was actually talking to her super secret best friend. She felt like James Bond, passing along secret information, though instead of giving Antoinette information on a warehouse's schematics where explosives were being kept she passed along a compliment, "Your dress is adorable" she said quickly over her shoulder, after making sure nobody was watching the two of them.

It didn’t take long for Antoinette to spot Lisa, but it took her longer to lose Lucas (“Want to dance?”) and even longer to inconspicuously make her way over to her faux former friend. She did this by following a man with a tray of salmon hors d'oeuvres. Plucking an appetizer from the tray and noting that she was still quite a distance from Lisa, she followed a man with a tray of champaign flutes. When the waiter changed course, Antoinette plucked a glass from the champagne and waited until the next tray passed. barbecued Shrimp, Antoinette reached out to take one from the tray, her hand retreating when she realized she hated shrimp. The waiter looked at her expectantly. Antoinette waved him away. Taking a sip of hr drink, Antoinette noted a waiter walking is Lisa’s direction. She was off. To the casual observer, Antoinette must have looked like she was involved in a life-sized game of Frogger, involving fancy appetizers and alcohol.

Picking up her pace, she came to a stop and plucked an appetizer from the tray. Glancing down at her appetizer, she noted that she now held a barbecued shrimp. It must have been the same waiter she’d waved off moments earlier. Standing behind Lisa, perfectly poised and holding up a shrimp, Antoinette frowned in deep concentration. What was she supposed to do now? She couldn’t give it back to the waiter. She was interrupted from her thoughts by the sound of Lisa’s voice, “Thank you” she replied, still holding up the shrimp, “You yourself, look incredible” turning her attention back to her current dilemma, Antoinette decided to bring Lisa in on her problem, “You probably can’t see this, but I’m currently holding a barbecued shrimp and I am quite unsure what I should do with it”

BRIDGETTE & EMERSON (The Ballroom).
[info]emerson_mordant
2008-03-08 02:05 am UTC (link)
It was man logic that if a man was incapable of taking an extremely attractive woman to a social function, it was in his best interest to spend the night at home eating pizza and watching reruns of the A-Team. Emerson Mordant would have prefer to have stayed at home, eating pizza and watching reruns of the A-Team, however as the Director of the Boston FBI branch, he was required to go, thus in man-logic, he was required to bring an extremely attractive woman. The attractive woman wasn’t about pride, it was about keeping up appearances, specifically it was about keeping up the appearance that he was already with someone, it said; “I’m already with this extremely attractive woman, so don’t waste your time”. Unfortunately for Emerson Mordant, his usual ‘Attractive Woman’ was currently seething from how he’d behaved towards her during the last social function, in particular, about how he had ignored her for the entire night. The day before the event, he’d given up hope of taking her and had started to ponder his options.

That was when he caught sight of her.

Bridgette Wellington, the single most annoying woman in Boston. She hailed from England and he like to imagine that she also held the title of “single most annoying woman” there. Oddly, however, her habit for asking endless questions as though she deserved answers and her grating sarcasm did not detract from her attractiveness. Whether or not Bridgette Wellington was attractive, was a fact that was never in question - especially to Emerson, so he’d shown up at her apartment the morning of the event at seven o’clock and had put forth the proposition; she should attend the hotel opening with him. Naturally, the strong minded woman had required a little more convincing, so Emerson (being frightfully and suspiciously polite) obliged; the event was the who’s who of Boston and he would be only too happy to introduce her to the more interesting people. He had originally found the idea unsettling, however with a very high opinion of himself, he came to the conclusion that as long as he kept her at his side, she’d be perfectly safe.

The night had arrived. FBI Director Emerson Mordant brought his usual delicate mixture of pristine, yet slightly scruffy to the event, along with an extremely attractive woman. So far he’d yet to drive her to homicide and she’d yet to drive him to suicide. As the pair walked into the ballroom, Emerson spoke, “Stay where I can see you and do not speak to anyone I have yet to introduce you to” as a waiter walked by, he reached out, taking two glasses of champagne from the tray, “Champagne?” he asked, offering a glass to Bridgette with a smile.

Bridgette was someone who had always prided herself on being prepared for things being thrown her way. Spontaneous as she was, she usually controlled what she was doing, and she liked it that way. So when her new neighbor knocked on her door at an ungodly hour, waking her up from a blissful sleep, she was in no mood to be thrown a curve-ball. She had been entirely too tired to think of some quick witted quip, but had been completely silenced anyway, when all she got was an invitation to a party. To say she had expected anything of it would be a lie, and she had to pause a moment before she finally got her head back enough to allow him to convince her just how fun it would be.

Never one to pass up an opportunity for such networking, she had promptly pushed him out of her apartment so she could get ready. And yes, it was an all day ordeal. The great thing about being new to a city, is nobody knew if you had worn a dress before or not.

Once at the party, she was amazed that Boston had such a beautiful place, and better yet, using it for such a party. She wore a dress that she had only worn once before, but nobody needed to know that. Emerson, much to her surprise, was actually a pretty good date, once you got past all of his annoying little habits first. Taking the glass of champagne from him, she smirked and sipped at it before she answered him. "Ah, no." She said, shaking her head as she swallowed another sip. "See, you'll find I'm not one of these sodding mindless models you might be used to. I can think for m'self, thank you very much." She said, arching a brow at him.

ROXY (open to anyone; BALLROOM)

It had been just over four months since Roxy had been to any event resembling this one. She had purposefully skipped any and all, as the last party she had been to sent her on the most terrifying and horrible ordeal of her life. Still, with things getting back to normal, and with her fear now not completely ruling her life, Roxy had agreed to come to this party. She may not be able to go back to that library, but this was an entirely different stretch of land altogether.

It had been a perfect excuse to go shopping, though nothing seemed to do it right for her. Fortunately enough for Roxy, her brother's girlfriend was none other than Monica Clarke, couture designer extraordinare. It had taken her less than three days to go from design to final product, and Roxy couldn't have been happier. She was actually a little bit excited to actually come. Niccy had promised that they would never be out of each other's sight, not that she actually questioned that. She still clung to him more than she should, but in time, she'd be fine.

The Dress was perfect, and was quite literally made for her. Now she stood by the bar, waiting for her drink to come up as she glanced over to make sure Niccy wasn't too far. She was intent on having fun tonight, no matter what.

Having given up on Faith returning to his side any time soon, baby talk obviously far more interesting then he was, Lance decided he deserved some refreshments. Unfortunately for this woman, who just so happened to be standing next to him at the bar, Lance was feeling a little neglected and bored. Deciding to start up a conversation and sociable he gave her a small nod, “Hey there” he said casually, adding a friendly smile.

Just at that moment the bar tender came over and asked for Lance’s order, being the gentleman that he was he turned to the brunette first before placing his order, “Have you been served yet?” he asked politely.

TRISTAN (Open to Anyone; Ballroom/Bar)
[info]sergius
2008-03-08 03:45 am UTC (link)
Extravagant parties and black ties affairs certainly weren't foreign to Tristan, finding it easy to don a tuxedo and black tie for the events at the Shangri-La Hotel. There was no way he was going to get in without. Complete with a set of cuff links from his sister for that little bit of flair against the straight black and white of his attire, he didn't feel out of place; didn't feel like he was lesser than his fellow party-goers -- He was comfortable, content, in his element given his bank account carried a good amount of digits, ready, of course, for mixing and mingling with those he saw fit to carry a conversation with. Given both sides of the feud were sure to be there, Tristan was sure to have his eyes open.

The bar. That was where Tristan could easily be found, standing off to the side of the counter where he waited on the tender to serve a few other customers before him to get a drink of his own - eyes glancing over to the other inhabitants of the hotel and guests of the evening's festivities. Surely there was a table somewhere where he would be able to sit himself down, but for now, he was fine with just mixing and mingling with a drink in hand. Tristan gave the tender a nod as he reached for the glass placed on the counter in front of him, taking a sip of that vodka mix topped off with a lime. It wasn't the usual choice, but wine -- He could take a break from wine for one evening and champagne -- He'd probably just have some later.

With a nod here or there two a few associates he had met through business endeavors and deals, Tristan passed through the crowd - every once in a while taking a sip from the glass in his hand.

HI-HO TILDA (Ballroom/Bar)

She’d arrived in a dress she was entirely pleased with. She’d arrived with her brothers, but it was in their nature to abandon her whenever they picked up the scent of a vulnerable woman. Tilda was used to it, it was part of the burden of having brothers. An hour later, saw Tilda Maddock leaning against the bar.

She shook the empty scotch tumbler that was accompanied with a half-spent cigarette, at the bar tender. The ice, barely melted, rattled as she left fragments of ash on the countertop, “Don’t stop until it reaches the top, my good Sir” she spoke, her British accent hinting to only partial intoxication - as a rule, she couldn’t attend a formal event without a good amount of alcohol under her belt.

When a fresh glass was bestowed upon her, she turned her attention towards the man standing beside her, “Tristan Sergius, right?” taking a sip from her glass, she held out her hand in a gesture of greeting, “You do good wine, or at least your Italian farmers do”

Cole Fletcher (Open to anyone, Ballroom/Bar)
[info]cole_fletcher
2008-03-08 04:28 am UTC (link)
Cole hadn't been in Boston for even two days when he had heard about a huge event that was being hosted in an old renovated hotel off the coast of the Boston Harbor. He hadn't attempted to contact Charlie yet, he was going to get himself situated in the city first. He wanted to make sure that she knew he wasn't leaving, and having all his stuff unpacked was probably the best way to go about that. He had gotten things situated with Harvard, and he'd be starting on Monday. So now, all that was left to do was to actually get in touch with Charlie. Which was probably the hardest thing he'd have to do. He didn't want her to slam a door in his face.

Upon hearing about the fundraiser, he figured it would be probably the best way to see her. He only knew a little bit of the feud between the Italians and the Irish, but he did know something. Of course, he was married to a Marino. Taking a chance, he hoped she'd be there and got dressed in his best suit, making his way to the hotel. Once he entered the room, he fixed his jacket and made his way to the bar, ordering himself a beer. He was never a fan of the froo-froo drinks or hard liquor, so he stuck with the beer. Leaning against the bar, he let his eyes gaze around the room, hoping they landed on his wife. His wife that he hadn't seen in six months. And he hoped she wouldn't run away from him if he did see her.

OMG HAI HUSBAND!

Nine times out of ten, Charlie would have found something else to occupy her time for one of these parties. She wasn't so into the crowds of hob-nobbers, and if she really wanted to go out, she could easily go bother one of her brothers or Rose instead. Tonight, Leo had made it clear he wanted his whole family there in full force. He wanted to present a united front, and after the older siblings had missed the last "event", rendering Niccy, Lucas, and Raul all involved in a fight, with Roxy missing, it was clear that they needed to be there.

Having found a sitter she actually trusted, Charlie had made it to the hotel with little trouble. She gathered the train of her dress as she ascended a the few stairs into the main lobby. She found a couple of people she knew and made polite conversation before moving on to someone else. She had been at the party for nearly fifteen minutes before she actually made it into the ballroom. She stood in the doorway for a moment, looking around to see if she could find any of her family. Her eyes scanned right over a face she should recognize, but her heart faltered in her chest as she did a double-take. There at the other end of the room was her husband, very much corporeal, and not the dreams she may or may not have been having of him since she'd left him.

The words fashionably late applied to Cassie, especially with an event this big. She showed up later than pretty much everyone else, and she noticed that when she glanced inside and saw how many people were already there. She lowered the long tresses of her dress and looked around for someone she knew. There were so many goddamn Italians there, she was beginning to get antsy. She headed right for the bar, that was the only way she could handle being there and not taking her wrath out on the Italians.

She ordered a long island iced tea and took her drink, moving into a corner. She was being forced to be in the same room as the Italians, there was no way she was going to mingle with them. She'd rather gauge her own eyes out and then sell her kidney on the black market. Slipping into a booth, she crossed her legs and set her drink down on the table, watching everythign with her eyes. Her eyes were taking everything in, and she wouldn't feel comfortable or at ease until she was in the presence of some Irish.

ANTOINETTE & LUCAS (wander off!)

Luc bowed his head a little when she leaned up to whisper to him, a slow smile gracing his face at her comment. "Should we? Hm." He said, his brow furrowing in mock consideration. He knew all his girlfriend had to do was say 'go' and he'd do anything she asked, especially in that area. He squeezed her hand and turned his head toward her, pecking her cheek in a gentle kiss before he tugged her along with him.

He glanced back at Raul and Lia, figuring they could take care of themselves for a time without him watching them. He could easily let Antoinette have his full attention tonight. Approaching the bar, he moved his hand to the small of Antoinette's back, standing half behind her. "What'll you have?"

Antoinette observed her boyfriend's look of consideration with amusement, she adored the silly ways he would behave when he was with her, "Or-" she started, taking his other hand in hers as she skipped in front of him to face him, "You could dance with me" she teased, with an impish grin. Antoinette loved to dance, but from what she'd gathered over the past year, Lucas did not, her boyfriend had so many other redeeming qualities, it didn't really bother her, she could always find someone else to dance with her.

Standing at the bar with Lucas, Antoinette was momentarily distracted when she caught sight of a very familiar face. Bridgette was there and she was with someone Antoinette didn't recognize. Instantly she felt annoyance towards the fact that her sister hadn't told her she would be attending the event with someone she had never mention. How could her sister keep something like that from her? She was supposed to let Antoinette on even the minor details of her life. Bridgette was definitely in for an earful later on. Realizing Lucas had just spoken, Antoinette turned her attention away from her sister, "Champagne for me"

Jen was distinctly uncomfortable at these kind of things, especially when she had to dress up. Tugging slightly at the tight white dress she was wearing, she shifted and looked around a little to see where Matt had gone. Leaving her alone at a shindig like this wasn't just unusual, it was cruel. As a waiter walked by, she snagged a glass of champagne and took a healthy drink of it before making a slight face. She'd forgotten that she really didn't like the drink all that much.

There had to be a bar here somewhere and there was no way in hell she was getting out onto that dance floor. Glancing up, she spotted quite a few known faces before she paused and looked around again. Just what had she gotten herself into? This place was loaded with the rich and powerful, so what the hell was she doing here? She started walking again in her damned high heels, moving at a slow enough pace so that she wouldn't fall flat on her ass as she searched for the bar.

Murphy really didn't want to go to the stupid fundraiser. He hated events like that, and hated the fact that his last name meant he fucking had to be there. Groaning inwardly as he walked in, he headed directly for the bar, Kayleigh on his arm. He grabbed a beer and then excused himself from Kay to run to the bathroom. He wondered briefly if he could just make an appearance, and then disappear. He figured nobody would really be the wiser.

As he headed back from the bathroom, he spotted a woman walking unusually slow across the floor. Once he recognized who it was, Murphy snickered and made his way over to her. "Did you drop a contact or something?" he asked, glancing around on the floor around her. "Or are you just trying not to fall on your ass?" he guessed, smiling as he shoved his hands into his pockets. He liked Jen, she was basically a Connelly herself.
