getcho' party hats here!
Who: All the Boston-Elite
What: Black Tie Ball
Where: Shangri-La Hotel on an off-coast Island
When: MARCH 10; 7pm
Rating: TBD
Open? to EVERYONE!

It takes a lot of pull to get heavy hitters from all sides in one place. Most would never dream of stepping foot somewhere where they are not guaranteed the upper hand. Then again, when you're in a power struggle, it never hurts to show up at a fund raising party where it is much, much easier to make sure law officials and other men with power might just lean on your side. Everyone gets a little more chatty with a few drinks in them.

The old renovated hotel is located just fifteen miles off the coast of Boston Harbor. While not open for business, they have turned the entire downstairs into a huge ballroom. The upstairs has been roped off due to renovations still going on, rather preferring to keep the guests in secured areas. In a building built in the 1900's, it's a scene straight out of an old movie. Antique chandeliers hang from the ceiling, with a large fully stocked bar against one wall, and tables lining around a massive dance floor in the middle. Servers are dressed in the "penguin suit" attire, their entire purpose to make the party perfect for the guests.

Nothing less than black ties, tuxedos, and designer gowns is expected, and everyone will just see who has the deepest pockets in Boston. Everything is set and polished, ready for what promises to be the event of the season.

(mod note; feel free to put up threads from anywhere in the noted areas, or even with your characters on the launch boats on the way over. In the 'subject' line of your thread, make sure to put who it is open to, and where your character is. Threads will go up at NOON tomorrow, starting the storm/blackout. Sunday is when the NPC guests will start disappearing. This drama can and will go on into next week, but for schematics of the game, it will all be taking place on "March 10", over the course of the evening/night/morning. HAVE FUN! )

She'd figured as much. Lucas was so predictable in some ways. But she normally didn't mind. The jacket thing had annoyed her a bit, but for the most part, she took Luc's overbearing protective streak in stride. "Oh! Wow." She eyed 'those guns' that he'd been referring to. "Yeah, no. I can totally see that. Raul, you've been holding back on everyone, haven't you?!" She winked, letting him know that she was just playing, the same as he was.

"Yeah" Raul replied in faux-modesty, the one and old form that he was actually familiar with, "I wasn't going to make a big deal about it, you know? I really didn't want to see Lucas' feelings get hurt, especially in front of his old lady" catching sight of a nearby waiter, he changed course, staking claim to two glasses of champagne. Handing one to Aurelia, he took a sip from his own.

"That was very kind of you. I'm sure, in retrospect, my brother will be very happy to learn of your generosity." Following Raul, she halted a foot or so away and then accepted the glass of champagne. "I should warn you. Vodka? I can drink like water. But this stuff. Well. If I start babbling about my X-Men collection, I fully blame the champagne."

Laughing quietly, she took a sip from her glass, studying him from over its rim.

Raul glanced around the room, it wasn’t hard to spot familiar faces from his extended family and from previous functions - The same people were always invited to these kinds of events, “Start babbling about your x-men collection like you are now?” the young Marino asked with a cheeky grin, “Personally I like champagne, it makes people giddy” as though to illustrate his point, he took a sip from his glass.

“So what have you been up to lately?”

She, on the other hand, knew only a handful of people. This was Aurelia's first real formal function. Most of the time, she'd been too busy or disinterested when she'd first come to live with Lucas. But not this time.

"No, I mean," she smiled a bit impishly as she took another sip. "Even worse. If I start mentioning characters on either side, that's what you need to look out for." She nodded in agreement, though about champagne making people giddy.

"Working, mostly. Yeah, I .. ah. You know. Take pictures. Lots of them." Blue eyes glanced around the room. "Mostly freelance stuff. And when I'm not doing that, I'm the one serving the drinks." Although bartending wasn't the norm for her, she did enjoy the socializing on occasion.

"You?"

Raul nodded, patting Aurelia on the shoulder, “Alright, if you start looking like you’re losing your grip on reality, I’ll let you know” he found Lucas’ sister’s love for comic-books completely baffling, he’d been a fan of comic books when he’d been in school and he hadn’t known any girls who shared the interest, especially not hot ones like Aurelia. She was kind of a law unto herself.

“Did you bring a camera tonight?” he asked, he honestly had no idea where on her personage she’d keep a camera, but technology was getting tiny, you could never tell anymore. When she asked him what he had been up to, he waved a hand vaguely, “Oh, you know, working for the man and stuff” while Raul did the odd job for his father, debt collection and the like, it wasn’t exactly a full time 9-5 going-on.

Well, to be fair. She wasn't a fan of all comics. Aurelia had an adoration for the X-men series' but there weren't many others that had caught her eye. Still, she collected X-Men comics and cards -- books! full of them. It had been that way for as long as she could remember. Along with them, she had a liking for buttons and stamps as well. There had even been a time when she'd dreamed of collecting post cards, but having never gone to any truly exciting places, she'd given that aspiration up in a heartbeat.

"Again, Raul, you're too kind." Grin was flashed, then faded as she shook her head. "No. I didn't think to. Besides." Still holding the champagne flute, she twirled around in her dress. "Where would I put it?" Technology was advanced, but the camera would've been a bit much.

"The man. Your father?" Brow inched upward as she processed the information. What kind of work do you do?" Curiosity might kill the cat, but as far as Lia was concerned, that would still leave her with eight remaining lives.

He laughed giving a little shrug, throwing a brief glance over his shoulder to ensure that her brother wasn’t lurking behind them. The two seemed to have lost them to the bar, “How should I know?” he asked with a cheeky grin as he motion to his chest and then to his leg as he gave Aurelia some options, “Down your front or maybe tucked safely in a garter? I’m not a girl, I don’t know about these kinds of girl things”

Catching sight of a vacant table on the edge of the dance floor, Raul linked his arm with Aurelia’s, dragging her in the direction of the empty seats as he addressed her question, “Yes my Father” he replied, he knew she knew what Lucas did and as a result what his Father did, but he wasn’t exactly sure how much she knew, “It’s a secret” he replied with a nod as they made their way through the hordes of people.

Of course, the idea of Lucas lurking behind them would have either amused or disturbed her. Or both. But that was neither here nor there. She snickered as he glanced over his shoulder. "Down my front? Tucked into a garter? I'll have to remember those for the next time there's a formal gathering."

Linking her arm with Raul's, she allowed him to lead her towards the vacant table in question, tilting her head at the small evasion. "Ahh. So, if you told me, you'd have to kill me?" Her tone was light, but he wasn't wrong in assuming that she knew what Lucas, and therefore his father, did for a living. But she had never dared to question her brother, so it was a basic knowledge. She also, sort of, knew, that it was the Marino family to whom she owed her higher education, along with .. well. Everything, since she'd come to Boston. But she wouldn't mention that.
