Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
getcho' party hats here!
Who: All the Boston-Elite
What: Black Tie Ball
Where: Shangri-La Hotel on an off-coast Island
When: MARCH 10; 7pm
Rating: TBD
Open? to EVERYONE!

It takes a lot of pull to get heavy hitters from all sides in one place. Most would never dream of stepping foot somewhere where they are not guaranteed the upper hand. Then again, when you're in a power struggle, it never hurts to show up at a fund raising party where it is much, much easier to make sure law officials and other men with power might just lean on your side. Everyone gets a little more chatty with a few drinks in them.

The old renovated hotel is located just fifteen miles off the coast of Boston Harbor. While not open for business, they have turned the entire downstairs into a huge ballroom. The upstairs has been roped off due to renovations still going on, rather preferring to keep the guests in secured areas. In a building built in the 1900's, it's a scene straight out of an old movie. Antique chandeliers hang from the ceiling, with a large fully stocked bar against one wall, and tables lining around a massive dance floor in the middle. Servers are dressed in the "penguin suit" attire, their entire purpose to make the party perfect for the guests.

Nothing less than black ties, tuxedos, and designer gowns is expected, and everyone will just see who has the deepest pockets in Boston. Everything is set and polished, ready for what promises to be the event of the season.

(mod note; feel free to put up threads from anywhere in the noted areas, or even with your characters on the launch boats on the way over. In the 'subject' line of your thread, make sure to put who it is open to, and where your character is. Threads will go up at NOON tomorrow, starting the storm/blackout. Sunday is when the NPC guests will start disappearing. This drama can and will go on into next week, but for schematics of the game, it will all be taking place on "March 10", over the course of the evening/night/morning. HAVE FUN! )

A mixture of feelings she couldn't entirely articulate flooded her and hit her squarely in the chest. She couldn't seem to force herself to look away from him, and her breathing became hitched in her throat until she realized she'd been holding it for far too long. Longing mingled with anger, love with fury, and settled to some slow churn in her stomach. She had no way of knowing he would be here, and as part of her wanted to run across the room and throw her arms around him, the larger part of her planted her feet firmly to the ground in which she stood.

As wave after wave of feelings crashed through her, old wounds and memories came to the surface. There was only so much she could keep buried. The trance didn't break until someone nudged her, apparently she was blocking the entrance. She looked away then, and anger boiled up, putting everything else out of her mind then. She looked back up, catching the nod he gave her. Her teeth grit together as she made her way across the room toward him.

Stopping a few feet away, she couldn't will herself to move closer. She knew it would be far too hard for her to resist the urge to wrap her arms around him and let everything wash away in his embrace. "What are you doing here, Cole." She said, her tone flat as she tried to steel herself against him.

Cole watched as she glanced away and he swallowed, wondering if she was going to turn and head back down the stairs and out of the building. He excused himself from the stranger, kind of rudely since the stranger was still talking, but he didn't really care what they had to say anymore. He returned his gaze to the doorway, and noticed that Charlie was making her way towards him. That was something he didn't really expect to happen, so he was a little bit taken aback when she stopped a few feet from him and spoke to him.

He took her in, being close enough to touch now, and he had to suck in a breath. She was stunningly gorgeous. She always had been, but now it was just right in front of him, he was unable to look away. He had missed her more than he thought he did, having her right there was proof of that. Replaying her words in his head, he noticed she was angry. He cleared his throat and glanced around them, taking a step forward and placing his hand around her to the small of her back, turning her gently to walk with him. "Not here," he said, gesturing to the big open ballroom they were standing in. He noticed a hallway, and he lead them for that hallway, away from everyone who was probably watching them, especially her family.

Once they were in that hallway, he removed his hand from her and crossed his arms across his chest. "What am I doing here?" he repeated her words back to her, shaking his head. "What do you think I'm doing here, Charlie? You take off, take our children with you, with no word, nothing. I had no idea where you went, had no idea if you were ... if you were alive, nothing. Do you have any idea how fucking worried I've been the past six months? Any idea at all?" he asked, unable to keep his voice from getting a little louder as he went on.

Her arms folded tightly across her chest, she winced a little when he finally spoke, then realizing that her nails had been digging into her own skin. His voice always was like a hypnotic song that had a way of pulling her in, but she stood there practically buzzing from a mixture of anger, desire, and guilt that was almost more than she could stand. She didn't expect his reappearance to rip off the band aid, so to speak, but all the hurt and anger that had caused her to leave him in the first place came flooding back to her. The fact that she just wanted her husband back and with her only frustrated her more.

Her body leaned back away from him just a little when he approached her, as she was not entirely sure she could handle him being closer to her. Her teeth grit hard together when his hand slid to the small of her back and she reached behind her in an attempt to swat his hand away as she strode double time to walk toward the hallway he had pointed out.

"Oh bullshit." She said, rolling her eyes a little as she huffed. "You didn't know if we were alive?" She stood there, arms again crossed over her chest. "Worried, hmm. Well did you think the little whore you were fucking may have taken us out of the question? Or is that head of yours too dense to figure out when you've been left." Her own voice rose a couple of octaves as she spat back at him. She had no idea she was still this angry, but all it took was for her to realize how much she missed him to bring it rearing back up with a vengeance.

He listened to her angry little rant with his arms crossed across his chest, his eyes bearing into hers. He visibly winced when she mentioned the reason she had left, and he kept his eyes closed for a few moments. And then, he wondered what exactly her family had told her about it. He knew it was her family that told her about it. It had to have been. He was pissed off that her family had interfered in their life before he was able to talk to her. He took a step forward again and couldn't help but back her into a corner. He needed to make sure she wasn't going to take off.

"What exactly did your family tell you, Charlie?" he asked, raising a brow. He wondered if they had told her that he'd been sleeping around on her for longer than he really had been. He had done it once, and he regretted it more than anything else in his life. And he also wondered how her family had found out and told her so quickly, since he had planned on telling her as soon as he got home. The realization hit him. Were they having him watched? Or, was that student a set-up? He ran his hands over his face before turning back to his wife.

His voice softened and he took another step closer to her again. "I just needed to know you were okay. And I didn't want to make you out to be the bad guy by just showing up to see Anna & Felix," he explained. He wanted to attempt to schedule a time to see the kids, give her time to make up a story to tell them. But if she wouldn't be cooperative, then he'd see them. He had a right to see them, they were his children.

Her hands practically shook as he stood there, as the adrenaline in her body fought against her self control to just lay into him and cause a scene, even from the hallway they were in. She was angry and hurt, even so many months later. She had been humiliated in a way she never thought she'd actually have to endure. It didn't help that her husband was hands down the man who had made her the happiest in her entire life. Funny how time and distance changes things, and conversely, leaves things exactly the same.

"They didn't have to tell me much, Cole." She said, her voice still a timber of anger that made her already gravelly voice sound just the slightest bit darker. "Why, do you want to tell me how many times you fucked someone else? Please, do enlighten me with the details." Her voice was cool, distant, yet still betrayed the pain this conversation was causing her. She hated fighting with him, but there was so much there that she couldn't very well ignore him.

Her back now pressed against the wall, she shifted a little as he stepped toward her. Her chin squared, tilting away from him as he invaded on her space. It really wasn't fair of him to have this kind of intoxicating aura about him that dragged her back in, no matter how much she kicked and screamed against it. "I wouldn't keep them from you if you came." She said, almost hurt that he had said that. Of course, her behavior over the past few months had been quite on the other hand, but she was not about to leave her children. "They miss you." She said, her tone still defiant though softer. She couldn't admit that she had missed him, so that would have to suffice.

He could tell how much this conversation was hurting her, she was never as good at hiding her emotions as she wanted to believe she was. At least, not from him. He could read her like a book, he had always had that ability. He placed his hands on the wall on either side of her, fighting so hard not to just reach out and touch her. She would probably slap him if he had tried, so he didn't want to force her away. Not before they finished this talk, at least. He didn't expect her to forgive him tonight. She would need time, and he knew that. He accepted that. Granted, she had had six months. But those six months were spent avoiding everything. That was what Charlie did. She avoided.

He gritted his teeth. "Not that it makes any difference, but it was once. One time," he said, one of his hands moving away from the wall to hold up one finger before her returned it there. "I made ... I made a mistake, and I am so sorry for that," he said, clearing his throat to force the raw emotion out of his voice. "But your family got to you and told you about it before I had the chance to. When I got home, you were already gone," he said, swallowing past the lump that had formed in his throat.

At her words about keeping them from seeing him, he shook his head. "That's not what I meant. I didn't want to just show up, surprising you, because that wouldn't have looked good for you. What have you been telling them all this time, anyway?" he asked, curious. He knew she wouldn't have made him out to be a bad guy, telling them that daddy didn't want to see them. That wasn't how Charlie was. He glanced down as she told him that they missed him, and he nodded. "I miss them, too," he said, then glanced back up at her, his eyes gazing into hers. He had missed her, too, so much.

Her teeth grit hard together when his hands moved to either side of her. Her arms stayed firmly folded across her chest, her hands curled into tight fists as she glared at him. She pressed herself back further against the wall, steeling herself against the way his body heat radiated off of him, and the smell of his cologne mingled with his natural scent. She hated that he knew her so well to push every damn button she had.

Her eyes finally caught his, a mixture of hurt and anger flaming up in her. "One time." She repeated, nodding a little as a lump seemed to rise up in her throat, intent on choking her. "That was one more time than it should have been, Cole." She half choked out, her voice cracking and frustrating her for showing that bit of weakness. She forced herself to look back up at him, wetting her lips before she spoke. "I didn't need to hear it from you, the fact that it was the truth was all I needed to know."

"Well that's...kind of you." She relented, sighing a little bit. She shook her head again, letting her hands drop, pressing them flat back against the wall behind her. "I just told them that you love them, but mommy needed a little time away from daddy." She hated lying to her children, so she rarely ever did it. His eyes caught hers like a magnet and she couldn't look away from him. Finally she closed her eyes, forcing the trance to break. "Please Cole...let me go." She said, knowing there was little hope in her request. She sighed, as it killed her to be so close to him and yet not able to give herself to him again.

Cole nodded at her statement, swallowing as he heard the cracking in her voice. "I'm not denying that. And I'm dealing with the consequences of my actions. But the consequences do not include taking my children away from me, with absolutely no indication of their location, Charlie," he said, his voice hardening again. He couldn't help it, he loved his kids. And he loved his wife. But he was beginning to see that she hadn't given any thought whatsoever to forgiveness while she had been gone. And that hurt him a little, though he didn't think he deserved complete forgiveness. He had let a moment of weakness destroy the only thing that mattered in his life, and he'd never really forgive himself for that.

At her words, he flinched, shaking his head. "Despite what you might think, I'm not a monster," he said, his eyes unable to hide the hurt he felt. When her eyes locked onto his, his heart beat faster. It was just a natural reaction to being this close to her. As she whispered for him to let her go, he stared at her for a few moments before pushing himself off of the wall. He crossed his arms across his chest again and took a step back, giving her some space. He was pretty aware of how much she didn't want to be close to him right now. The reality of that kind of stung, he had missed her so much. Swallowing hard, he stared down at his feet. "I can't," he finally said, shaking his head, unable to look at her.

"Okay, I give in, I made a mistake, I'm the bad guy here. Is that what you want to hear?" Her voice was nearly a growl as she tried to keep herself from yelling at him. It was clear that the images in her head were probably far worse than reality, but the fact didn't change that he had been with someone else. There had even been a moment or two when she thought that she might feel better if she retaliated, but she could never get past the slightest bit of innocent flirting. She always felt wrong.

"I never said you were a monster." She grumbled, a slight pang of guilt resonating in her chest at the way he looked at her. He still had that way about him to make her heart lurch in her chest and her knees weak. Biting hard at her lower lip, she sighed and shook her head. "That leaves us at an impasse, Cole." She said softly, tears threatening to stream down her cheeks. She did her best to hold them back, and cursed herself for not having a better 'poker face'. "I can't look at you and not see what you did."

Cole shook his head at her reasoning. "No, that's not what I want to hear. We both made mistakes, Charlie," he said, reaching his hands up to run over his head momentarily. "Granted, mine was much worse than yours," he added, anticipating her outrage at trying to compare the two happenings. He wasn't trying to compare them at all. "I don't know. I don't know what I want to hear," he admitted, throwing his hands out to the sides briefly before letting them slap against his legs again.

"No, you never said it. But you think it. I can see it in your eyes," he said, blinking a few times and then forcing a swallow past the lump in his throat. Watching her reaction to his words about not being able to let her go, he felt like she had slapped him with her words. He had anticipated them, but they still hurt. "I guess it does. Because I can't look at you and not see how-" he stopped himself, and shook his head, scratching the side of his face. "What's the use?" he said, taking another step back and instinctively crossing his arms across his chest again. He was closing himself off, he didn't want to get hurt again. "You don't even want to try, so what's the use," he said, mostly to himself.

"Yeah well, it shouldn't have to be so painful." She said, shaking her head a little. She bit down harder on the corner of her mouth, fighting against angry, hurt tears that sprung to her eyes. "I don't want to dwell on that, okay? It is what it is. You can't take it back like it never happened, and I can't help the way I left."

Her eyes seemed intent on never leaving him as he shifted in front of her. She was angry and hurt, and yet here she was, less than five feet away from him and still missing him. The resignation in his eyes made her throat constrict and a tiny voice at the back of her mind scream for her to relent, if even just a little. "The kids would love to see you." Her voice was meek, quiet and just above a whisper. As much as she hurt and as much as she thought it would better for everyone involved if he let her go, she simply couldn't do the same.

He tried to close himself off from her emotionally, but he couldn't. Her words still hurt him, and he still wanted nothing more than to move to her and just take her into his arms. He wanted to hold her and beg her to forgive him, to take him back. He wanted to tell her how much he missed her, and how much he loved her. Instead, he just swallowed hard and his arms that were crossed across his chest tightened a little bit. "I know," he stated simply.

As she spoke about the kids, Cole's gaze glanced up from the ground in front of him to her face again. He nodded, clearing his throat. "I would love to see them," he agreed. He saw the tears in her eyes that she was refusing to let free, and he took a few steps closer to her, hesitating a moment before he wiped them away with his thumb. "I'm sorry I made you cry," he whispered, unable to keep himself from caressing her cheek a little bit while his hand was there. He had to touch her, he couldn't help it anymore.

Charlie's brow furrowed a little as she sighed, shaking her head a little as she did so. This was killing her, and she felt like if she'd had time to actually prepare for him to be here, things might be different, but this was all just... raw. There was very few other words that could describe it.

Charlie steeled herself a little as he moved closer to her, her spine straightening as his fingers brushed over her cheek. A hitch of a breath caught in the back of her throat before she let it out in a sight. His fingers seemed to send an electric shock through her, just at the simplest of a touch. "Don't be..." She whispered in a hoarse voice. She knew most men were terrified when women cried, and while that was generally rightly so, that wasn't her intent now. "Cole..." Anything else she may have wanted to say caught in the back of her throat as she allowed her eyes to close, for the moment just feeling the way his hand felt against her cheek.

She smallest shadow of a smile crossed Cole's face as she told him not to be sorry. "You know me better than that, baby," he said, his voice just a whisper. "I always went above and beyond to say sorry when we fought, why should now be any different?" he asked, though the question was rhetorical and he wasn't expecting an answer. The fights he spoke of were mostly tiny little tiffs about watching a football game instead of spending time with her, nothing near the caliber of this.

When she breathed his name, he swallowed hard, moving closer and resting his forehead against hers. He was waiting for her to push him away, to tell him to back off and give her time. But when she didn't push his hand away, he took it that small step further. His hand cupped her cheek and he ran his thumb softly over her lips. He closed his eyes and rolled his lips into his mouth, enjoying being this close to her, however long it lasted. He could smell her perfume and it was invading his mind. She hadn't changed perfumes, she still smelled exactly like he remembered.

A visible shudder coursed down her spine when he called her 'baby', the timber of his voice making her inwardly quake just a little. No matter how angry and hurt she was, no matter how much she wanted to beat her hands against his chest and tear at that perfect face of his, Cole had her, body and soul, and that killed her to know that there wasn't a damn thing she could do about it.

Her jaw tightened when he moved into her, swallowing hard at the constricting of her throat. One hand pressed flat against his chest before she could stop herself from encouraging him. She inhaled deeply, his scent intoxicating as she closed her eyes. She indulged in the moment, allowing him to trap her in close, keeping her wrapped up in her memory of everything that was good with them. Though she'd forced herself to forget about it, the good truly did outweigh the bad. The bad just devastated her more than she cared to admit. Her head tilted back a little, but she stopped short, her lips far too dangerously close to brushing against his. She wasn't sure she was ready for that, to forgive everything that had broken her heart.

He felt her shudder, and he took another step closer to her. He knew the room that was less than two hundred feet away from them was full of people that hated him for what he did to her, every Marino affiliated person out there would probably kill him without blinking. He had known of her affiliation with such a highly powerful family when he had fallen in love with her, and he didn't care. He knew the kinds of things she did for her family, and how much her family meant to her, and he still didn't care. He loved her, he'd overlook anything for her. And even though he knew the people out there, Leonardo Marino especially, would have him killed faster than he could blink, he still didn't care. All he cared about was being here with her now, smelling her perfume and feeling her breath on his face. It was something he had missed more than he cared to admit. His world was right there in front of him again.

When her hand pressed against his chest, he waited for her to push, but she didn't. Instead, she just kept her hand there, pressing gently against his chest as he continued to caress her cheek with his forehead pressed against hers. He opened his eyes briefly and took in her facial features. Her face was crinkled in concentration, and he couldn't help the small smile that crossed his face. That was the same face she made when she was thinking too hard. Reaching his free hand up, he placed it over her hand on his chest moving it under his suit jacket to rest on top of his shirt, right over his heart. "It's yours, Charlie," he whispered softly, tapping his fingers on the back of her hand. "It's always been yours," he added, closing his eyes again and rolling his lips back into his mouth. He moved her hand that he had placed over his heart up to his cheek, leaning into the touch slightly and turning his head to kiss the pad of her thumb.

Charlie's eyes closed for a moment when he moved her hand to smooth over his chest, feeling the thump of his heart there beneath her fingertips. She bowed her head a little, a huff of a sound whooshing out of her lips like the wind had been knocked out of her. "Cole...you can't..." She stopped short, her voice fading out as he guided her hand up to his lips. Her eyes took him in completely, the way he pressed his lips to the pads of her fingertips. She swallowed hard, her heart hammering hard in her chest, so much so that it was hard to hear anything. Even the music that floated down the hallway seemed dull and faded into the background.

A surge of...something hit her, whether it was love, desire, or just plain stupidity, she wasn't sure, but as her fingers smoothed softly over the stubble on his chin, she couldn't stop herself any longer. He clouded all judgment she had in her, and in less than a second she shifted forward, closing the small space between them and pressing her lips to his. A soft curl of a moan echoed off of her lips and drowned against his while her lips parted into the kiss. She had missed him, missed this, and was all too glad to indulge in the moment of insanity.

Cole could tell what kind of an effect he was having on her. And while he knew it wasn't fair, he needed her to understand. He needed her to know that she still meant everything to him. She was still the only woman he loved, the only woman he had ever really loved, if he was honest with himself. He knew from the moment she spilled his coffee all over him that there was something special about her. She had captured his heart, and he didn't think he'd ever get it back. He didn't want it back. "I can't what?" he breathed, his words muffled a little bit by her fingers as he spoke. He kissed from the pads of her fingers up to the palm of her hand and then pressed one kiss against the palm of her hand.

Turning to look at her, he closed his eyes as he felt her fingers smoothing over the hair on his chin. He knew she liked his facial hair, which was why he had never gotten rid of it. He was about to concede and finally take a step back when he felt her lips press against his. He was shocked and frozen into place for a moment, but only the briefest of moments. He reacted immediately, his arms wrapping around her waist as he returned her kiss. His head was screaming at him to stop, telling him that she was just overly emotional over seeing him again after so long. But his heart begged him to hold onto her and never, ever let her go again. He had absolutely no intention of letting her go. When she parted her lips, Cole took the hint and slid his tongue against hers. He missed her and this as well, he had missed the way she tasted. He was halfway tempted to pinch himself to make sure he wasn't dreaming, since this had been part of his dreams for quite some time.

Her body seemed to melt into his, the way he held her sending a shiver of warmth rushing over her. She had missed the way he'd lock his arms around her and pull her close, making her feel a swirl of emotions she'd never bothered putting a label on. Her fingers curled against his chest, pulling at the lapels of the black jacket of his tux. Part of her never wanted to pull away, to just let him have her again, and forget about everything, but the far more logical side of her mind knew this was a fleeting moment of weakness, and would be over far too soon.

His tongue sliding over hers caused yet another shudder to rake through her body, but then it was over. She pulled back, sucking in a deep gasp of a breath as she bowed her head away from him. "Dammit." She muttered, shaking her head back and forth as she now pushed her hands against his chest to distance herself. "I can't do this with you." She dragged her fingers over her swollen lips and shook her head again, now looking at him. "I just can't." She said, taking a step away from him. She needed distance after that.

Cole had missed holding her like this. His arm tightened around her waist and he pulled her flush against him, unable to help himself. He missed this contact, he missed everything about her. And he had her back, if only for this moment, so he was going to take full advantage of that fact. He was going to prove to her how much he loved her, and how much he wanted her back in his life for good. He was going to do everything it took to get her back, and he meant everything. It wasn't as if she could avoid him, they did have children together that he would be seeing quite often. He missed his kids so much, and he couldn't wait to see them.

He wasn't oblivious to her shudder as their tongues met, his own body shuddered a little at the touch. He was going to deepen the kiss even more, but he didn't get the chance to. She pulled her lips away from his and pushed on his chest. He took a step back, he didn't want to fight her and risk pissing her off. Not when he was sure that her head was reeling with feelings for him. The same feelings he had for her. He swallowed hard, dropping his hands from around her when she cursed, shaking her head. "Why?" he asked in response to her statement that she couldn't do this with him. He watched her fingers as they moved over her lips, and he just wanted to kiss her again. She took a step away from him and he reached out to grab her arm gently. "Charlie, I love you. Never forget that," he said, then let go of her arm.
