getcho' party hats here!
Who: All the Boston-Elite
What: Black Tie Ball
Where: Shangri-La Hotel on an off-coast Island
When: MARCH 10; 7pm
Rating: TBD
Open? to EVERYONE!

It takes a lot of pull to get heavy hitters from all sides in one place. Most would never dream of stepping foot somewhere where they are not guaranteed the upper hand. Then again, when you're in a power struggle, it never hurts to show up at a fund raising party where it is much, much easier to make sure law officials and other men with power might just lean on your side. Everyone gets a little more chatty with a few drinks in them.

The old renovated hotel is located just fifteen miles off the coast of Boston Harbor. While not open for business, they have turned the entire downstairs into a huge ballroom. The upstairs has been roped off due to renovations still going on, rather preferring to keep the guests in secured areas. In a building built in the 1900's, it's a scene straight out of an old movie. Antique chandeliers hang from the ceiling, with a large fully stocked bar against one wall, and tables lining around a massive dance floor in the middle. Servers are dressed in the "penguin suit" attire, their entire purpose to make the party perfect for the guests.

Nothing less than black ties, tuxedos, and designer gowns is expected, and everyone will just see who has the deepest pockets in Boston. Everything is set and polished, ready for what promises to be the event of the season.

(mod note; feel free to put up threads from anywhere in the noted areas, or even with your characters on the launch boats on the way over. In the 'subject' line of your thread, make sure to put who it is open to, and where your character is. Threads will go up at NOON tomorrow, starting the storm/blackout. Sunday is when the NPC guests will start disappearing. This drama can and will go on into next week, but for schematics of the game, it will all be taking place on "March 10", over the course of the evening/night/morning. HAVE FUN! )

It was man logic that if a man was incapable of taking an extremely attractive woman to a social function, it was in his best interest to spend the night at home eating pizza and watching reruns of the A-Team. Emerson Mordant would have prefer to have stayed at home, eating pizza and watching reruns of the A-Team, however as the Director of the Boston FBI branch, he was required to go, thus in man-logic, he was required to bring an extremely attractive woman. The attractive woman wasn’t about pride, it was about keeping up appearances, specifically it was about keeping up the appearance that he was already with someone, it said; “I’m already with this extremely attractive woman, so don’t waste your time”. Unfortunately for Emerson Mordant, his usual ‘Attractive Woman’ was currently seething from how he’d behaved towards her during the last social function, in particular, about how he had ignored her for the entire night. The day before the event, he’d given up hope of taking her and had started to ponder his options.

That was when he caught sight of her.

Bridgette Wellington, the single most annoying woman in Boston. She hailed from England and he like to imagine that she also held the title of “single most annoying woman” there. Oddly, however, her habit for asking endless questions as though she deserved answers and her grating sarcasm did not detract from her attractiveness. Whether or not Bridgette Wellington was attractive, was a fact that was never in question - especially to Emerson, so he’d shown up at her apartment the morning of the event at seven o’clock and had put forth the proposition; she should attend the hotel opening with him. Naturally, the strong minded woman had required a little more convincing, so Emerson (being frightfully and suspiciously polite) obliged; the event was the who’s who of Boston and he would be only too happy to introduce her to the more interesting people. He had originally found the idea unsettling, however with a very high opinion of himself, he came to the conclusion that as long as he kept her at his side, she’d be perfectly safe.

The night had arrived. FBI Director Emerson Mordant brought his usual delicate mixture of pristine, yet slightly scruffy to the event, along with an extremely attractive woman. So far he’d yet to drive her to homicide and she’d yet to drive him to suicide. As the pair walked into the ballroom, Emerson spoke, “Stay where I can see you and do not speak to anyone I have yet to introduce you to” as a waiter walked by, he reached out, taking two glasses of champagne from the tray, “Champagne?” he asked, offering a glass to Bridgette with a smile.

Bridgette was someone who had always prided herself on being prepared for things being thrown her way. Spontaneous as she was, she usually controlled what she was doing, and she liked it that way. So when her new neighbor knocked on her door at an ungodly hour, waking her up from a blissful sleep, she was in no mood to be thrown a curve-ball. She had been entirely too tired to think of some quick witted quip, but had been completely silenced anyway, when all she got was an invitation to a party. To say she had expected anything of it would be a lie, and she had to pause a moment before she finally got her head back enough to allow him to convince her just how fun it would be.

Never one to pass up an opportunity for such networking, she had promptly pushed him out of her apartment so she could get ready. And yes, it was an all day ordeal. The great thing about being new to a city, is nobody knew if you had worn a dress before or not.

Once at the party, she was amazed that Boston had such a beautiful place, and better yet, using it for such a party. She wore a dress that she had only worn once before, but nobody needed to know that. Emerson, much to her surprise, was actually a pretty good date, once you got past all of his annoying little habits first. Taking the glass of champagne from him, she smirked and sipped at it before she answered him. "Ah, no." She said, shaking her head as she swallowed another sip. "See, you'll find I'm not one of these sodding mindless models you might be used to. I can think for m'self, thank you very much." She said, arching a brow at him.

And there it was. The very reason why she drove him insane. He exhaled as he attempted to keep himself calm, before starting on his glass of champagne - maybe it hadn’t been worth it after all - it wasn’t the fact that she’d said no, it was the way that she said it and then elaborated, “I have no doubt that you can think for yourself” he replied finishing his glass of champagne, he hated champagne, “That much is only too evident. I am merely suggesting that as a newcomer to this city, you refrain from blundering into situations you know nothing about”

Perching a brow as he promptly downed his champagne, she couldn't help but smirk a little at the effect she had on him. Bridgette prided herself on not letting people get the best of her, and while Emerson on more than one occasion did just that, tonight she was contented to have the upper hand.

"Oh please, Emerson." She scoffed, rolling her eyes as she moved toward him, looping her arm casually through his. After all, she was his trophy for the night. "I'm not going to ask someone who their favorite American Idol is, or what they think about Britney being in the nuthouse." She grinned at him, playfully patting her palm against his chest. "In case you forgot what you've read in my file, I'm more than capable of handling topics of politics, in or outside of Boston." She smiled brightly at him, maybe a little too much so, betraying the sarcasm that she approached the entire topic with. "I may even out-do you, Mister Mordant."

Emerson shook his head as he discarded his empty champagne flute, “I haven’t forgotten your file” he replied as he scanned the room, putting names with faces and trying to gage just how terrible his evening would be, “In fact, it’s your capability of handling topics of politics, that worries me the most” he added with a wry grin.

In Emerson’s experience, people who knew a little something about politics, usually felt obliged to let everyone else know and it wasn’t long before their opinions began to surface. Emerson knew he was one of those people, but having added Bridgette to his team, especially when there was a very good chance that their opinions would class, would make for a messy scenario; he could imagine the terror in the other guests eyes as they attempted to flee the scene.

“By the way, who is your favorite American Idol contestant?”

Bridgette canted her head to the side as he spoke, a little twinge of a smirk creasing her lips. "Oh? Well, I feel at a severe disadvantage here, sir." She said, quirking a brow at him. As much as it annoyed her that he knew mostly every detail about her life, she couldn't help but be intrigued to have that right back from him. He was a bit of a mystery to her, and that was rather frustrating.

"Oh, you don't need to worry. I'll stand still and look pretty on your arm." She teased, her voice thick with sarcasm. Her brow furrowed a little as she studied his face. His question amused her, but she didn't want to be made a fool of if he was just messing with her. "The darling young one. David something." She said with a definitive nod. Having finished off her champagne, she wrinkled her nose a little and left his side momentarily to make three steps toward the bar. "Can I please get a rum and coke?" She asked the bar tender. Enough of the boring party drinks.

He was going to retort that she better not look hideous, but thought better of it. Remarks like that had never really got him anywhere and he couldn’t even begin to imagine how Bridgette would react. From what he could tell, she was a little unstable, but then again, it was her unstable qualities that Emerson found most attractive. Crossing the distance to the bar, Emerson ordered a Scotch.

Leaning against the bar, he turned to look at Bridgette, genuinely checking her out for the first time that night. Holding his newly found glass up to Bridgette, a small smile crossed his face, “To David something and his blossoming musical career”

Bridgette idly glanced around the room at nothing in particular, simply taking in the dazzling dresses and designer tuxes. Really, everyone looked fantastic. You certainly did not get events like these when covering the rural towns in Africa or the jungles of India. Still, Boston was a jungle to itself, and she was simply contented with the fact that as far as she knew, she was able to stay relatively out of trouble.

Turning a wide smile to him, she gave a nod and clinked her glass against his. "To David." She laughed softly before she raised her glass up to her lips and took a sip of the drink that was much more suited to her tastes. "So, Emerson." She said, cocking her head to the side as she looked up at him. "What made you decide to bring me to this fabulous evening? Not that I'm complaining, mind you."

“I may have made some comparisons to my original date’s backside and the Hindenburg” He replied sagely as he took a sip from his glass, Bridgette had asked him a loaded question, after careful contemplation he’d decided that no matter how he answered, he was screwed - he had to tread so carefully where this woman was concerned, she picked up on everything. He’d opted for honesty, “When I invited her, she viciously declined. You were literally the nearest woman under the age of forty to me at the time, so I walked down the hall and knocked on your door” he’d walked down the hall and knocked on her apartment door, and things had turned out alright; she was easily the best looking woman in the room.

She nearly choked on her drink at his admission to what he had said to his "other" date, her brows arched in surprise. "Ah..." She said, clearing her throat a bit. "And here I thought you being a complete ass all the time was something you reserved just for me. Good to know there's an Emerson-haters club I may be able to join at some point." She gave him a cheeky smile and bit down on the straw of her drink to take another sip.

While she hadn't been happy to hear she was merely a second choice, his further explanation of her simply being the closet woman did not sit well with her. She made a bit of a 'humph' sound as she breathed out, her jaw set as she looked away from him. "Well then." She said, turning her eyes back to him. "I guess you won't mind if I leave with someone else?" She nodded toward a young man who was, while certainly not as handsome as her date, cute enough, and staring in their general direction. "Since this was just a pity date."

"I'll definitely mind if you leave with that runt" Emerson replied as he followed her gaze, pondering just how immoral it would be to have the man held as a terror suspect before eventually having him thrown in Guantanamo. It would be immoral, but entertaining the idea was in itself a little bit fun, "I'll have him summering in Guantanamo - if you're going to have the audacity to ditch me, at least ditch me for someone good-looking" he replied waving his glass in the direction of another woman, "What about her? She's not half bad; got a good set of teeth, nice legs, great ass"
