All the best deceptions
WHO: Kajsa & Ryan
WHERE: Ryan's residence
WHEN: Late morning
Linnea was still missing and Kajsa felt like she was going to be sick (on top of the morning sickness that the little demon inside her was causing). Satu had not taken it well (to say the least) and so Kajsa had left the house. No, it was not Sister of Year material, but she couldn't handle Satu's emotions on top of her own and, apparently, the baby's. She'd spent most of the morning in a coffee shop in Detroit talking to a friend who had gotten sober and walked away from their old scene without a second look. Danny and Kajsa were no longer as close as they once were but their relationship was better for several reasons. And he listened to her. And his coffee house made the best decaf espresso for miles around. And when her story about the baby had come spilling out, he'd made the suggestion that had led her to standing on Ryan's front porch.
This was stupid.
Wringing her hands as she stood on the man's front porch, Kajsa couldn't quite bring herself to ring the doorbell. She stalled for a little bit as she tightened the belt around her trench coat. Somehow Danny had convinced her to ask Ryan for help. She'd only met the guy in passing a couple times when she'd been pass-out drunk and only through friends of friends. She didn't even really know him other than his name and what he looked like blurry. They might have taken a hit off the same...okay, now was not the time to go down memory lane. Danny had suggested that Ryan would be willing to help. Why, Kajsa wasn't sure, but she had enough money to convince someone to stay silent for a little bit. Danny had said that Ryan was a reliable sort and the kind who couldn't turn down a damsel in distress. Well, Kajsa was distressed all right.
This is stupid.
Kajsa pushed the doorbell. And winced. And waited.
