THE BALL

The Professors had locked off the Great Hall right after lunch, the only people allowed in were the social committee. The girls spent the better part of the day missing classes and setting up for the ball.

Some tables were set up around the walls.

It didn't take long for everything to be in order. The girls spent the last few moments putting the touches on the food and drinks.

About an hour before the ball was to start the girls were finally done. It was a beautiful sight with ghosts everywhere, there was a stage where the two most popular bands were going to be playing. It was by far one of the more elegant balls in the past few years.

When the doors opened to allow the students in a low growl was heard before the first band took the stag in an uproar.

Once the place was crowded an announcement was made.... "Morning classes will be canceled tomorrow!"

Honestly, he almost made her jump. Sadly, Samantha was off in her own little world and sometimes she can be pretty oblivious to everything else that was going around her. She certainly was pleased to see Shane. "Hey," she replied, giving him a warm smile before taking another drink.

"Oh thank you," her cheeks grew a little red from his compliment before commenting on his costume. "You look great too, very tough and macho." Poking him playfully letting out a small laugh. "So enjoying yourself then?"

"I'm sorry...didn't mean to startle you," he apologized. It was her that he made a bet with that he was not supposed to apologize so much. The thought reminded him..."Hey, you are supposed to give me a present..." He stated with a breath-taking grin.

He couldn't help but laugh at her compliment. "Tough and Macho?" Shane questioned her, still chuckling. "Why thank you...I might have to add this to my wardrobe then." It was obvious he was beginning to open up and he was happy about that.

"I'm beginning to," he answered her with another award-winning smile. Shane was not much of a dancer and he didn't usually attend such occations...but now that he was in good company...he was actually enjoying himself. "What about you?" He asked, taking a gulp of his drink.

"Oh you're fine." Samantha replied, waving it off. I tend to be oblivious to everything around me when I'm deep in thought. Samantha smiled and couldn't help but let out a small laugh. "You're right. Well then I'll have to think of something to give you then."

Samantha smiled again as she nodded her head in agreement. "Definitely should." She was happy that he was having a good time, she was certainly happier now that he was around. "That's good, yeah I'm thinking this ball isn't so bad now." Feel the warmth in her cheeks. Samantha wasn't used to being brave around boys she liked.

	"Good," Shane said. He was happy to hear that she liked him around. He watched her blush and it made him overwhelmingly happy. "Would you...uh...like to....you know...dance?" He finally spat it out. Shane sat his drink down and held out his hand for her to take. (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

Shane chuckled as he lead her to the dance floor. "Oh, well then this should be fun," he stated with his eye brows raised. He put his hands, moving ever so slowly around her waist. His heart pounded in his chest. He looked down at his feet as they moved, making sure he didn't step on her tiny feet. He was so much taller than her. She was so small next to his masculinness.

Loosening up a bit, he brought out some of his hidden dancing skills and twirled her around. In doing so he got a glimpse of a certain mermaid. It made his heart leap. He was perfectly content holding Samantha in his arms, but Rosalie never failed to make his palms sweat. With Sam he could open up and be himself. He was more than himself, better than himself. What a dilemma.

	Samantha had noticed how small she was compared to him, it almost made her laugh. The ball certainly turned out better than she thought it would. He twirled her, and Samantha couldn't help but smile. "Quidditch match is coming up soon isn't?" Samantha asked, knewing that Shane played for Gryffindor. "You excited for it?" Her laugh was contagious. He really was having a good time, to his amazement. Shane liked to laugh and have fun, who didn't, but he only did such with people he was closest with. His eyes scanned the room. He noticed his brother Braden, who looked like he was having a pretty good time. Shane looked back down at Samantha.

"I can't wait. I'm counting down the days. We've been practicing so hard...we deserve to win...we will win," Shane stated happily. He had faith in his team. "So...any new books lately?" He asked her, eyes barely raising to glance over Rosalies head.
