THE BALL
Who: Everyone
What: The Ball
Where: The Great Hall, outside the Great Hall and so on.
When: Halloween 2022
Rating: Nothing above R here, if you want something above that please make your own thread for it!
Status: On going.

The Professors had locked off the Great Hall right after lunch, the only people allowed in were the social committee. The girls spent the better part of the day missing classes and setting up for the ball.

Some tables were set up around the walls.

It didn't take long for everything to be in order. The girls spent the last few moments putting the touches on the food and drinks.

About an hour before the ball was to start the girls were finally done. It was a beautiful sight with ghosts everywhere, there was a stage where the two most popular bands were going to be playing. It was by far one of the more elegant balls in the past few years.

When the doors opened to allow the students in a low growl was heard before the first band took the stag in an uproar.

Once the place was crowded an announcement was made.... "Morning classes will be canceled tomorrow!"

Zara was nervous about the ball, she shouldn't be, it was just a ball nothing over the top, nothing scary, it wasn't like she was going with someone she didn't know. She was going with Braden! She figured he didn't know who to ask, and going with a good mate was a lot easier and a lot less scary.

She slipped on the blue dress it wasn't anything that exciting, but she wasn't the type to want to go overboard with a costume. Less complicated the better in her mind, besides she wasn't the type to dress slutty either. Zara left her hair Down and didn't go over the top with anything. She had a simple white gold necklace on, with a drop of watter locked in the center of it.

She was surprised at how nervous she was when she saw Braden. She took his arm when she reached him and blushed softly. "Thank you. You look powerful." She said at his costume. It really did fit. She was surprised at how quiet the walk was, she was used to hearing him talk more, or come up with some really strange thing to do.

When they got in she turned and looked at him and smiled. "It could be a lot worse." She commented softly.

Braden was still buzzing over being called 'powerful'. Powerful was a word more easily associated with his older brother. Shane was tall and broad-shouldered and strong. He was the weight-lifting type. Braden was muscular in his own way, true, but powerful? Heh. She thought he was strong.

At least Zara's response to his stupid question hadn't been bad. She hadn't looked at him like he had grown a second head or anything of the sort, and that fact helped him relax a bit. "Er- Do you want some punch or something?" he asked, remembering himself. "Or, we could dance, if you like?" He certainly liked the thought of being her first dance for the evening.

Zara watched him carefully. She was a little bit worried that he wasn't sure he wanted to be at the ball with her, but she was doing her best to not think about anything like that. As he asked her if she'd like punch or something, adding the dancing she found herself nodding for a few moments.

She finally remembered that speaking tended to be the way things worked out well. "I'd love to dance." She said with a soft smile. Zara wanted to dance, that way she wouldn't need to feel odd standing around and drinking punch, she wanted to dance.. Dancing sounded safe.

She had accepted his invitation to dance. That had to mean something, right? Of course, he supposed friends danced together, too, especially when they asked their friend to come to the ball with them in the first place.

With a smile, he led her to the dance floor, suddenly glad he had finally caved to his mother's request and taken dancing lessons that he claimed he would never have to use. A hand that seemed much to large on her petite midriff came to rest carefully upon Zara's waist as he held out a hand for her to take. He was willing his blush not to climb upon his cheeks at the close contact, and he managed to succeed to some extent.

She took his hand with a light smile. Of course she'd been to dance classes as a young girl, she had to. Zara didn't have a choice when it came to those things. Her mother hated her enough for playing Quidditch, it was the least she could do. Actually she did it so she could fly under the radar of her mother.

Zara smiled and let her other hand drift to his shoulder slowly. She felt a little bit silly for being nervous at how close she was standing to him. At least when it came to Braden she knew he'd never hurt her, hew as a good mate after all. Probably the best she'd ever really had. Zara took half a step closer before letting him lead. She'd speak if she could find the words, but nothing really worked.

If Braden had been this close to Zara before, it certainly hadn't been for this long a period of time (perhaps a bump in the hallway or something of the sort). He knew he shouldn't enjoy it as much as he did, knowing she didn't feel the same way, but there were some things in life a boy simply couldn't control.

Easily leading her in time with the music, he looked down at her. She looked amazing in that dress. He was sure no one else could have pulled off something so simple and elegant as well as she did. "You really do look beautiful tonight, Zara," he murmured, not caring that he had already told her once.

Zara didn't know if she'd been this close to him for this long, but even with being nervous she wasn't uncomfortable. Zara just wasn't used to it was all. She rarely got close to anyone ever, so it was strange for her to be that close to even him.

She blinked a few times as he spoke again, it caught her off guard. She looked up at him confused but she smiled. "Thank you." Was all she could think to say, she couldn't stop the nervous blush to her face though. She wanted to complement him again, but she didn't want him to think that it was because he'd complemented her. It was all slightly confusing. For a girl who normally figured things out quickly, situations like this were a completely different story.

"I'm glad you asked me." She said honestly, softly, with a half smile.

Braden found himself wondering what this situation might have been like if Zara would ever think of him in the way he thought of her, but he quickly shook the idea from his thoughts. No use dwelling.

He was surprised at her comment. Braden still very much had it in his head that she had only agreed to go with him because she felt bad for him. "You are?" he asked, regretting saying it as soon as it had slipped, seemingly of its own accord, from his lips.

Zara was a bit surprised to see him be surprised by it. Braden meant a level of safety, comfort. She didn't get how that could be surprising or bad. He was a really good mate, he was someone she trusted, of course she was glad that he asked her.

She smiled though softly. "Yes, I am." She said completely honestly. It was really as simple as someone she felt comfortable around. She didn't think much past that. She smiled softly again, she didn't really know why but she felt.... she felt like she should. She sort of had the fear that he was nervous about something, but of course it could be her own nerves playing trying to find a different reason for it all.

Zara's words gave Braden a brief glimmer of hope, and that usual Capper smile slipped back into its rightful place as he looked down at her, wanting to edge closer, but not daring to. Even if she had felt the same way, he wouldn't want to make her uncomfortable.

"Well, I'm glad you accepted," he told her, giving her hand a gentle squeeze.

"Hey," His grin had widened now, to that almost mischevious one he had when he was opting for something spontaneous. "What do you say we show everyone who the best dancers in this place are?" He tried to console himself that he was trying to have fun, and not sweep Zara off her feet with his fancy dancing, but well, it wasn't so easy to lie to yourself when she was standing in front of you in that beautiful blue dress.

Zara smiled. She was glad that he was glad that she had accepted, even though she was pretty sure she wash is last resort. She was okay with that though, it meant she wouldn't go alone somewhere, and at least she was having a good time with him.

Zara laughed slightly, now that sounded more like something Braden would go for, and it was exactly what she needed/wanted. "I think I really like that idea. It is one of your few good ones." She teased him. He dragged her on so many odd adventures, at least this one she knew she wouldn't end up somewhere strange. Not that she ever really minded that.

Braden's eyes brightened with her tinkling laughter. "All my ideas are good, thank you very much," he told her, grin widening. He liked it when Zara relaxed enough to tease him. Sometimes he wondered how she didn't explode with all the rules she had established for herself running around in that head of hers.

"Here we go," he said, before leading her on a sweep across the room, gliding her around the other couples. For a boy of his stature, Braden was surprising graceful.

Zara laughed shaking her head. "Uh huh." She teased slightly before being whisked away, which was basically how it felt as they started to glade across the room.

It wasn't hard for Zara to keep up or follow his lead, after all being from a family such as the flints one didn't really have a choice.

Zara couldn't help herself from a light bright smile as she felt her hair pick up a little from the movement. She didn't need to think about anything else at that moment, and it was nice.
