THE BALL
Who: Everyone
What: The Ball
Where: The Great Hall, outside the Great Hall and so on.
When: Halloween 2022
Rating: Nothing above R here, if you want something above that please make your own thread for it!
Status: On going.

The Professors had locked off the Great Hall right after lunch, the only people allowed in were the social committee. The girls spent the better part of the day missing classes and setting up for the ball.

Some tables were set up around the walls.

It didn't take long for everything to be in order. The girls spent the last few moments putting the touches on the food and drinks.

About an hour before the ball was to start the girls were finally done. It was a beautiful sight with ghosts everywhere, there was a stage where the two most popular bands were going to be playing. It was by far one of the more elegant balls in the past few years.

When the doors opened to allow the students in a low growl was heard before the first band took the stag in an uproar.

Once the place was crowded an announcement was made.... "Morning classes will be canceled tomorrow!"

Saxen had dragged Dustin to the ball, that wasn't anything new though, she felt like she spent half of her time dragging him to one place or the other. It wasn't that big of a problem, or anything to worry about, she just wanted him to have fun.

She walked in with him, her arm on his purely for comfort. She'd dressed them as Abigail and John Adams. The clothing was simply that of the time, classic, good, comfortable. Dustin looked good as John Adams, while Saxen felt Abigail had been a good choice for her.

She looked around with a slight sigh before speaking. "It doesn't look bad does it?" She said softly. Saxen had put a lot of work into it, although her sister would take all the credit, Saxen just made sure budgets and everything were in order.

Dustin wasn't one for the ball, normally, but this year, he felt he had to do it. Not because his sisters were there and he would have to keep an eye on them. Not because it was his last one at Hogwarts and how many others were there going to be? And not because he figured his mother would have wanted him to. No, it was because of Saxen. Not that he'd really tell her all the reasons, but part of it was because she asked him to go with her, and because she was partly running it. Also, because he wanted to be there for her. He was sick of her being upset. If he couldn't be happy and upbeat for himself, he could at least try for her.

He wasn't entirely thrilled with his stuffy costume, but Saxen looked beautiful, and was thrilled that he had complied. Walking into the ball, arm and arm with her, he had to admit--they looked good. Not as good, though, as the Great Hall did.

"Wow, Sax.." he said, looking around, then back at her. He was genuinely smiling. "This is awesome! You did an amazing job."

Saxen thought he looked good, that was all that mattered, plus he seemed to be somewhat happy. Sure she'd been upset lately, but it wasn't anything about him. It was about school, her parents, her siblings, it had taken her really realizing how close she was to his sisters to notice how far she was from her own family. In some ways it really scared her, but honestly Saxen would be okay. She had Dustin around, and even though he was hidden in a lot of ways she could always count on him. That was what really mattered was having someone to count on.

She squeezed his arm slightly. "Thanks, wasn't all me though, it was everyone in the club." She said looking up with a bright smile. Even the little good job that someone noticed she'd put work into it made her feel better. Saxen didn't have to sit second chair to her sister when it came to Dustin, and as silly as it was it made her feel a lot better.

Dustin rolled his eyes, still smiling. "Yeah, okay Sax," he said, obviously not believing her. She was always so modest. "That's why you've been running yourself ragged these past few weeks? Pretty sure you did most of this." He smiled, leaning down to whisper in her ear. He was feeling like a different Dustin today, a much more fun Dustin. Like the old Dustin, someone that Saxen would remember well, and only got to see still. "And not to mention that you're probably the most beautiful girl here."

"I think the match coming up has something to do with that." She said before hating herself for it a second later. She'd give anything to take back everything for him. Saxen was one hell of a chaser, but she wasn't an idiot, Dustin should have the right to fly again, and she would probably do anything to give it back to him. She pushed the thought out of her head as she watched him become more of the Dustin she knew a while ago. It made her laugh, a happy but slightly nervous laugh.

It was hard not to blush, she didn't feel like the prettiest girl in 100 miles, but him saying it was what stopped her. She looked at him with a smile and a clear blush. "And who is trying to win some sort of favour?" She teased.

"So all the more reason to give you more credit than the rest." He smiled. "How many of the Quidditch Captains also ran this dance? I'm gonna say...none." Her brother certainly didn't do anything, and he didn't see Bryce Abercrombie or Frank Longbottom putting up directions and pouring punch into the bowls. He figured it was all Saxen. He wasn't going to say it, but it wasn't like her sister and the other girls on the social committee were smart enough to put all of this together. At least, not as smart as Saxen.

Dustin laughed, shaking his head. "Excuse me, you of all people know that I never say things I don't mean to get favors or something.." He smiled. "I mean it! You do."

Saxen hit him lightly with her other arm. She gave him a small glare. She didn't really think it was that big of a deal to help out with the dance, captain a team, and be in more clubs than probably she should be. To Saxen it was part of her life, she needed to be the best that she could be, it was important to her, even if it was sill. She did however enjoy the complement. It as good to hear from him, she knew perfectly well he wouldn't lie to her.

"And you're still being too nice, you want something." She said laughing with a blush. She was teasing of course, she just wasn't the best at taking complements sometimes, really when they caught her off guard, or had to do with how she looked.

Dustin pretended to be hurt from the hit on the arm, making a face, but he laughed. She really didn't hurt him when she did that at all. Dustin liked to make it a big deal, the things Saxen did. Lord knew that no one else commended her on those things. He knew she was modest, though. Like him. It wasn't like she was going to sit here and grin and talk about how wonderful she was.

He laughed again, shaking his head. "Yeah, I want a favor. Except not." Dustin rarely ever did anything for his personal gain. "No, really. I'm telling the truth."

Saxen rolled her eyes at him as he pretended to be hurt, like she'd ever hit him hard enough to hurt! That'd be mental, and she'd never do something like that.

She sighed slightly but smiled. "Fine. I believe you. But are you going to ask me to dance or do I actually have to drag you out onto the floor and make you dance?" She asked with an innocent sweet face.
