WHO Vienna and Bea
WHAT Long awaited family reunion.
WHERE Outside the guard room building.
WHEN October 15th, 2019; Late evening.
RATING Medium, maybe.
Getting into this place had been an adventure. The guy at the gate had played twenty questions with Vienna before finally letting her in. She had only given her first name, a habit she had taken up over the years. The urge to ask him if he knew Bea had been bubbling up inside of her, but before she had had the chance to ask Ledger was climbing out of the truck and darting halfway across the compound grounds, his puppy Tipsy in hot pursuit. In one quick movement she had killed the engine on the truck and was racing across the grounds after the toddler and puppy, tossing an apology over to shoulder to the poor guy at the gate in one breath, before yelling in the other. "Ledger, stop right there." Vienna knew the command would likely be ignored, whatever her son was racing towards had his full attention. She was only thankful that they were in a protected compound and not out on the streets. As much as this scared the hell out of her whenever Ledger would do this. It did give Vienna's mind a break from the racing questions about Bea. Would her older sister recognize her? How much would Bea have changed in the last five years, and would she even want her around, let alone her and Ledger? She had about a million other questions. All of which would be answered when she found Bea. First she needed to recapture her son and his wayward puppy, though. "Tipsy!" Vienna would go after the lesser of two evils first. To her surprise the puppy stopped and waited for her to catch up with him. Reaching down she scooped the puppy up and muttered. "If only your little owner was that easy to stop." Picking up her pace again, Vienna watched as Ledger came to a screeching halt in front of what looked to be a woman walking another puppy. "Look mama, puppy!" Ledger called back to her, his big brown eyes wide with excitement. She found it hard to be angry at him when he looked so genuinely happy, but as Vienna approached them with Tipsy tucked under one arm, she reminded herself that encouraging that behavior could lead to him getting bitten, injured or killed if he did it outside the walls of a safe house. When she reached the small gathering of Ledger, the puppy and the stranger, Vienna just gave her son a look that he knew all too well. It was the 'don't ever do that again' look. "I see the puppy," she replied evenly, her gaze flicking for the first time from her son over towards the puppy's owner. Her heart jumped up into her throat as recognition hit and the only word she was able to form was. "Bea...." |
