A part of her could imagine what Bea was thinking right now. Vienna wasn't the girl she had been five years ago. So could she really blame Bea for being surprised? For asking if it was really her. The apocalypse had changed her, and even she could admit it hadn't been for the better. "Well, it's me. So that answers that." She clenched her teeth and fought back the urge to snap at Bea to watch her mouth. Honestly it wasn't like Ledger hadn't heard those words before.
"Seeing as I didn't know him from Adam, I think you can understand my skepticism," and yet she'd still listened to the guy and come here. "Never said he wasn't. For the few hours I was around him he seemed nice enough." Vienna wondered what it was like to have someone watching your back out there. She hadn't had that since Thomas died, three years she'd been doing this alone.
The look Bea gave didn't go unnoticed by her. She could almost see the cogs spinning in her older sister's mind. If their roles were reversed Vienna was positive she'd have that same look on her face. Had to be some kind of mind fuck to find out you were an aunt. Or maybe that your baby sister had a kid. Probably some kind of mix of both.
"Hi," the little boy smiled brightly at Bea, waving one little hand at her. Any awkwardness in the interaction was lost on him. "Your mama's sister?" Ledger paused, studying Bea almost as if he were looking for traces of his mom in her.
Vienna quirked an eyebrow and nodded. "You haven't lost your sarcasm I see," she remarked with a faint upturn at the corners of her mouth. It wasn't a smile, but it was closer than anything she'd given anyone in a long while. "Did mom and dad fail to tell you about the birds and bees?" Vienna shot back with her own level of sarcasm. She went serious after that and sighed softly. "He's Thomas. You remember Tom, right?"
"Five years and you can't even give me one hug? Good to know some things haven't changed." Somehow it was a strange comfort that Bea hadn't turned into some uber affectionate person in the last five years, even if for just a moment Vienna needed a hug from her big sister simply because she was alive and here.
