"Why would I be there, Vienna?" She wasn't being harsh, just asking an honest question. "Even the end of the world couldn't change the fact that I was a disappointment to the family. I did check the university, but you weren't there." It had been chaos though, so maybe she had been and Bea just hadn't looked hard enough. Who knew. In any case, she'd found a way to be safe and so had Vienna, so it was all water under the bridge. "I worried about you for months." Bea really wished that Vienna would stop crying, it wasn't making things any better. Wasn't making Bea feel any better, more like.
It was going to be a trip to get used to having family around; she'd cobbled together her own set of important people. If screwed with her worldview also, because finding Vienna again didn't fit into the pessimist mindset. Seriously, who would believe after this many years that they'd both still be alive and healthy? It just didn't make sense to Bea, not that she was really looking a gift horse in the mouth. But not like it would change her worldview much either, there was still plenty of bad things happening to make up for one good thing.
"I assume there was a guy at the gate, right?" Security wouldn't be slacking off now, Bea didn't think. It was strange to hear Vienna joking, the air had been so tense so far. Though she couldn't help a laugh of her own at Vienna's dig about a tip. "The fuck? I'm doing all this work and getting nothing, what kind of manners are those?" she shot over her shoulder, craning her neck enough so Vienna could catch her expression. "And what kind of a name is Tipsy?" she blurted out.
Personally it made her think of drunk people, but she didn't think that's why Vienna's little dog was named that. Maybe it was. Could be some sort of joke that Bea just didn't get. There was a lot she didn't get about her sister anymore. There would probably be a lot more that she'd learn; good or bad.
