This wasn't how Vienna had thought a reunion would go. But maybe she had been delusional if she thought it would be anything but awkward. Five years was a long time to be away from someone, and in those five years she had changed a lot. Part of her wondered if Bea wished her friend Ty would have come instead. That was a pessimistic thought, but not one Vienna could chase from her mind.
It was ridiculous though. Ty had been looking for her for Bea's sake. She wouldn't have asked her friend to do that if she didn't want him to find her. Plus, she was here now so it wasn't like she could change things. Sing Sing seemed alright, and maybe in time this tension between the two of them would pass.
Tilting his head to the side Ledger gave his aunt an appraising look. "You look kinda like mama," he remarked in the way only a child could. Still oblivious to the tension that was in the air.
Vienna appreciated that Bea was talking to Ledger. That despite her older sister's surprise at all of this she wasn't ignoring her son. "I don't know. People have a habit of changing." Even Thomas had changed after the outbreak, and she knew she had changed. "Oh course it was. Joyce talked to me as well." There parents had done a lot of things when they were growing up, but raising them hadn't been one of those things. "Thomas Fitzpatrick, my boyfriend all through senior year? You seriously don't remember him?" Vienna couldn't blame Bea really for not remembering. It wasn't like her sister had spent much time in the same social circles as her by that point.
This only served as a reminder that even before the outbreak she and Bea had been growing a part. The infection had only served to make the chasm between them that much worse. Maybe the old Vienna could have gotten this reunion on track to the kind of a reunion a family should have. But she wasn't sure she could find the old Vienna even if she tried.
"Okay, fine," her response held that little sister tone that she only ever took with Bea. "I can set Ledger and Tipsy down, you know." Vienna pointed this out matter of factly. She didn't want to think her sister was throwing out excuses. Maybe Bea was buying time while she adjusted to everything? It had to be strange finding your sister and her kid.
What was Bea trying to ask? Vienna didn't want to get her hopes up that her sister would ask her to stay with her. They couldn't even manage a hug right now, somehow she wondered if they could manage living together. "Honestly? I just got here." Waving a hand back towards the gate and the truck she'd arrived in she continued. "Haven't even unpacked our stuff yet."
