Did Bea not recognize her? Doubt started to course through Vienna's body as she waited for her older sister to say or do something to indicate that she recognized her. She was tough, hell, she had all but given up finding Bea. Had accepted that her older sister was dead. But she knew if Bea didn't recognize her that she wouldn't be able to handle that. All the toughness in the world wouldn't be able to overcome her own family not knowing who she was.
Say something, Bea. A small voice in Vienna's head was all but begging her older sister to acknowledge her. When Bea did finally speak, Vienna found herself glancing down at Ledger and almost on autopilot saying. "Don't repeat that." Before she turned her attention back towards her sister.
"Who else would I be, Beatrice?" Her voice held a note of 'Who else would it be?.' to it. Maybe in another time, before the outbreak, she would have answered with a polite 'Yes, it's me.' But that response was long gone with the girl who had been New York's sweetheart.
Shifting, Vienna bent down and scooped Ledger up in her free arm. The toddler didn't necessarily need to be carried, but she needed something to do while she worked through the fact that Bea was actually alive. "Your friend Ty told me I'd find you here," she offered up as an explanation. "I'm just thankful he wasn't screwing with me."
Because if she'd come her only to find absolutely no trace of Bea, well, she would have been unbearable to deal with. Vienna had worked hard to not get her hopes up on finding her sister. But now that she was standing in front of her, she realized that she had allowed her hopes to rise.
"Mama," Ledger tugged on her sleeve, pulling her from her thoughts. "Who's this?"
"Monkey, remember how we were coming here to find mama's sister?" Vienna paused for a moment as she cast a look towards Bea, wondering how her sister would react to her having a kid. "This is her. Ledger, this is your aunt Bea."
Shifting Ledger on her hip, Vienna focused all her attention on Bea. "We've got a lot of catching up to do," five years worth of catching up to do. "First though, can I get some kind of hug or something?"
