RP: Party!
Who: Everyone!
When: 8pm onward, 13 March
Where: The Room of Requirement
What:PARTY!

The Room of Requirement has been set-up for a lively party. There's food (and cake!) thanks to the House-elves, and a surprisingly generous assortment of alcohol. Kirley has rigged up a music system to play a variety of music (heavy on the Weird Sisters obviously, but the RoR had a bunch of albums that had been left by various students throughout the ages so there's an eclectic mix). A dance space has been cleared, and there are little sitting areas arranged for more private moments--lots of cushions and pillows strewn about to make little nests, some squashy armchairs, etc. It's very clearly been sourced from all over the castle, and from items that had been left by students/faculty/professors through decades so the styles are all over the place. Kirley says it's not the Bubble Palace, but it's the best he could do on short notice.

"Oh, no! It's alright," he offered with a similar grin as he shook James's hand, keeping it firm but politely brief. Lingering would have been awkward, he felt, even though he often ended up plastered against someone's side eventually. "I was unconscious by then anyway, I'm sure. Kind of a long day, you know?"

And it had been quite the pillow fort with every cushion and bit of furniture helping to create a tent with blankets and sheets hung from the ceiling. There was a reason that Teddy was often in charge of those things. But as it was, he was sort of glad that James hadn't crawled in as well though he would have been welcome. It had let Teddy get some time to adjust before he started meeting everyone else.

Ah, that was a question. For a moment, his smile faltered before he got it fixed right back in place. Unloading on someone - especially someone he just met - was not going to happen. Ever. "It's been a little overwhelming and I'm not entirely certain how I'm going to be able to help - but getting to meet my dad is... Mental, honestly." He still wasn't sure that it was real and not just a very long dream. "You've been here longer though - advice on surviving?"

Sirius was the natural hugger of their group. James had sort of picked it up thanks to constant exposure, but it wasn't something he typically extended to people he'd just met. Merlin, he hadn't even hugged Harry here. Was that weird? It was probably weird.

He finally caught the echo of Remus he was looking for in that split second before Teddy smiled. James would know that moment of hesitation anywhere, but decided not to push it. Not right now, anyway.

"I bet." He didn't like to think of Remus joining him in the 'parent of an orphaned child' club. At least James had had the benefit of actually having a baby before he'd been brought here. "How are you guys getting on?"

"Don't ask me, I'm still figuring it out." James grinned to disarm the words. 'Surviving' was probably the appropriate phrase for what he was doing here. He hesitated, pulling his hand through his hair thoughtfully, leaving one side on end.

"Helps to have people you know, though. I dunno what I'd have done if your Dad and Sirius weren't here. You know a few people from home, right?"

"The most that I could ask of him was that he wasn't disappointed in me. We've passed that with aplomb. Everything else can be built up naturally. It's not like we're going anywhere," he shrugged his shoulders, the slightest of movements. Teddy shoved his hands in his pockets, just to have something to do with them. His journey for a drink was long forgotten.

Teddy broke out into a broad smile and a soft laugh. James had a natural charm, he thought, and he was glad to be drawn into it. Any chance to get to know more about his godfather's father, his father's friends. If he believed in a higher power, this might have been classified as a miracle, to be here, right then.

"That's... a complicated question, isn't it?" He exhaled, running through all the names he had caught, "Scorpius and Rox are cousins multiple times removed but we're very familiar. Everyone else... I was a baby or I was about to start primary." He wondered if it was weird to start hoping certain people showed up. Did he want to inflict the pain that came with knowing everyone was dead on other people?

"Then there's the growing list of people I'd love to just... Shove a cactus right up their rear-ends," which was said complete with hand motion as if it wasn't graphic enough.

"Well, there is that," James agreed. It was a relief, in a way, to hear Teddy talk about Remus that way. James knew how awkward these things could be. Not that he really would have imagined it going any differently - in many ways, Remus as the best of them. "Remus is a sweetheart, though. You've got nothing to worry about."

James nodded thoughtfully. There was always that risk with the pureblood families. He was pretty sure he and Sirius were cousins with a few degrees of separation, but as he'd told his Dad on many occasions - after a certain number of generations, did it really matter? "It takes a bit of getting used to. I never really know who this is weirder for."

But the last comment made him laugh out loud. Oh good, they'd get on just fine. "Believe me, I'm right there with you. I dunno what kind of selection criteria this place has but..." he shook his head, smiling and taking a drink.

"Just don't let Sirius hear you say that," he warned. "He'll be skipping off to the greenhouses before you can say restraining order."

"No, it was really brilliant," he cleared his throat sharply, "But if we keep going on, I'm going to get weepy at a party and no one needs that." He grinned a bit sheepishly, rubbing the back of his neck for a moment.

For Teddy, any degree was close enough to be family - as long as he didn't hate them. Great Uncle Lucius could, again, sit on a cactus and bloody rotate. "I'm still trying to decide if it's cruel or not to wish certain people were here. It's quite the balancing act," his brow furrowed slightly but he figured that if anyone would understand, it might be James.

He made a sound with a heavy exhale that was low and rumbly and likely very unusual but it was just the frustration escaping him. "I know I could stop Sirius but I don't know if I would want to. Only setting him on Greyback would just be cruel." Teddy did not want Sirius getting hurt just because he was upset. "And I did promise Harry I wouldn't do anything..."

"I don't think its cruel," James shrugged. "Its not like home is a bag of roses for any of us. And it's coming from a good place." He hesitated, then decided he might as well ask. "Who are you waiting on?"

He could empathise with Teddy - there were few people here he would have much rather weren't, and definitely some he needed to arrive sooner rather than later.

James smiled a little bitterly at the mention at Greyback. "Sounds like we all made the same promise on that one." It wasn't easy for James to sit back and pretend he was fine with Greyback wandering around, but he figured as long as Remus and, more unlikely, Sirius did the same, they could hopefully just ignore him. If not - well, he'd be there right alongside them.

"It's frustrating though," he admitted. "Y'know, that people like Greyback have been given a second chance while others haven't." A flash of dark red hair in his mind's eye. James swallowed and took a hasty gulp of beer. "I guess there must be a plan over who arrives, or maybe it's just bad luck. I dunno which would be worse."

And for Teddy, all his friends and family were facing imminent death. Maybe wishing could save them. He didn't know. Was the castle listening? "Your grandchildren, for one. They're some of my best friends - especially your namesake." He decided not to mention Victoire but it hung on the air that there was someone else, someone even more important.

"As much as I made that promise to Harry, it's really more to Remus. He's the one who loses the most," his dark eyes took on a very serious gaze, meeting James's, "But if something does happen, I would appreciate being let in on it, hm?" He was not a Marauder so he didn't really expect special favors from the group as a whole but he hoped there'd be some consideration.

He frowned softly at James's words, reaching out to settle a hand on his shoulder, "Hold on, mate. The castle hasn't stopped bringing people in yet. There's still a chance." It didn't take a genius to figure out who James was thinking of. And if Lily didn't come before Lilu (if either showed up at all), it would be a Helluva blow.

"Yeah?" That was interesting. "You're going to have to tell me everything about them, then." James had heard a little about his grandkids from Scorpius, but was still curious. Especially about the kid with the excellent name. He got the impression there was something, or someone, that Teddy wasn't mentioning, but again decided not to push it. He knew the feeling far too well.

"Sure," he agreed, not a hundred percent sure he meant it. He wasn't convinced Remus would be overjoyed if he knew James had promised to drag Teddy into whatever potential trouble was brewing. Still, fingers crossed there would be no need for anything. Sirius had given his word, and James trusted him with everything.

He was pulled from his thoughts by a reassuring hand at his shoulder, and James gave him a tight smile in return. He didn't particularly enjoy being vulnerable. "If it could just get a wriggle on, that would be great. I'm sure they'll all arrive sooner or later."

They had to, right?

Enough of that. James pulled a grin back into place, shoving a few rogue strands of dark hair off his forehead. "Anyway, might as well keep busy until then, right? C'mon, let's get you a drink and you can tell me about Harry and the rest back home. And we should probably rescue whatever poor sap Padfoot has latched onto."
