Sybilla "Sylla" Borgin
[info]sibyls

SO OKAY. Madeline again, and apparently I brought two in the same day because I'm weird like that, but this little thing was in my head and here's Sybilla Borgin! Ebonhide Junior, transfer student from Hogwarts where she was a Slytherin, which shocked absolutely nobody.

- Her parents are THE Borgin and Burke. They're like the Victoria & Albert of shady creepy stuff in wizarding England. (Or the Kate and Charles, but Sylla prefers the dramatic and historic.) They run the shop still and have a total of 8 kids in their reclusive manor in the Northwest of England. Sybilla is the middle child, with one older brother and the rest are 7 girls that look scarily like their parents. (The rumor is that dark magic helped with that. . .not far from the truth but what's old Hogwarts gossip to do with anything anyways.) With them all together at Hogwarts it's a more than creepy, but luckily Sylla can get away from them and make her own path, even if she misses them terribly. Her family is her life, and being away from them is terribly difficult.

- Literally the tiniest girl ever. Her thirteen year old sister is taller than her. Sylla is only 4'11, but don't let that fool you. Also, while she looks posh af her accent is THICK. Happy Valley thick. Beatles thick. It's weird.

- Dueling is her passion, her life's calling, and her truest talent. It's also her only extracurricular. She's really good at fencing too, if you can handle going up against a tiny little girl.

- In animagus training and deeply stressed about what her form will be. She really doesn't want it to be a snake. But she has a feeling it's going to be, and that's just so cliche and terrible and predictable, and if Sylla hates anything, it's being predictable and ordinary.

- She's a good student, but she's not so much competitive as extremely hard on herself and her own goals. Her worst enemy is herself, and she doesn't have anything to prove to anyone but herself and her family. She works herself into seclusion and obsesses over every little detail of everything, but she's working on finding balance to that.

- She overthinks everything, she can't let things go, she's intense and driven, but when she likes something or feels strongly about something, the fire really comes out. There's no happy medium or ambivalence with her, she needs to feel every emotion deeply and truly and purely. It's really not healthy.

- Sylla really needs people to talk to, but it's kind of hard finding people who want to hear her feelings on morbid Greek mythology, brutal sports games, how blood looks pretty sometimes, and other creepy things that really show her true Gothic Horror Barbie side. But really, she needs it. She's at Gooseberry to get away from preconceived notions of herself, but she's finding them hard to really escape at all, and maybe she shouldn't have to? But you know, 16 year olds~

And before I ramble any more her profile is here, and like Holden, she's a blank slate! Friends, acquaintances, grudges, classmates, anything! :)

YOU SUBMITTED YOUR APP AT JUST THE RIGHT MOMENT. I'd just finished processing Holden and Gabi, and I was just like MARIN READ THIS REAL FAST. Anyway, I'm excited about Sybilla~

So, she and Calvin were in Slytherin together! Back at Hogwarts, Calvin was basically part of a little Malfoy-ish clique a year below her. Samuel Goyle, the leader of the gang, might have periodically hit on Sybilla. How Calvin reacts towards Sybilla now, though, depends on how she's taken the way he's changed at Gooseberry. He was sorted into the Nice Kids house and softened a lot, and now he hangs out with a very different group of people. But Sylla is a piece of home, and Slytherin fraternity dies hard. Even if she thinks he's a loser he'll want to side with her to some degree. Calvin's also an excellent student, but gets good grades through learning the system, not necessarily by working himself to death. He's also in duelling, and is fairly good at the wand parts, but skips the swords part.

And then Reid is in her year in Coppertale, and they're in animagus studies together. He's got some weird inclinations himself about how realistic "become a bird" is as a career goal, so he won't judge her deep gothy feelings. On the other hand, he won't have much to say on the subject. He's unmotivated and passive about a lot of things in life, which may frustrate her.

Diego's a year older than her in Azurcrest. He's warm and friendly and non-judgemental, but also needy and always looking for validation. He's probably attempted to flirt with her before, but he may be a little too wholesome for her tastes. There's not a goth bone in his body. He likes some ~heavy~ musicians and song lyrics, but that's about as deep as he goes. Diego is all BIG EMOTIONS, though, and I think it'd be hard to find a topic he was neutral on.

Sylla knows all about that clique life, only hers were her siblings, but yknow how that goes. . . She's pretty self-concerned and rather than cast judgments on people for their behavior, she likes watching and analyzing it, so I think she'd find Calvin's changes very interesting! IDK she's hard to really offend, and I do think they'd get along well! Plus they have that Slytherin familiarity and she's dreadfully homesick also. She'd get Calvin up to practice fencing with her as best as she can.

Yesssss looking forward to animagus things! She is all about that unrealistic expectations, even if she doesn't realize it, but to her everything should be heroic and intense and as high-reaching as can possibly be. As long as his passivity doesn't hold her back, she's cool with him :)

She doesn't even know if she has a taste yet (or if she does it's like. . .Noel Fielding or Shakespearean villain actors covered in blood or something. . .she really doesn't know), but she enjoys people acting strangely to her, so while she wouldn't flirt back, she would eye him with a strange fascination while he does so. She likes seeing all the different facets of human behavior. She'll get into many conversations with him! It's all very fascinating to her.

Yay, yes, they should be friends! They're also both from massive families; Calvin's the middle child of 5 brothers. Anyway, Calvin will talk to her about morbid stuff and not be too phased, even if it's not ~his thing~. His friends are always Right and everyone else is Wrong. And he avoids fencing because he's so scared of looking foolish in front of people, but if Sylla gets his confidence up maybe he'll start attending. :)

Reid will find her intensity kind of offputting, aaaand kind of fascinating. He definitely thinks she's interesting, though. And hey, she can apparently handle Sy. That's an accomplishment.

That sounds like fun. Diego loves talking, and he's hard to make uncomfortable, so feeling like he's being analyzed won't bug him too much. He's also really bad at filtering himself, so Sylla can at least be pretty sure that she's always getting a genuine reaction.

As someone actually from the north west of England and with a VERY strong accent (Cumbria Lancashire mix), I get a huge kick out of this XD

I REALLY HOPE I DONT SCREW IT UP OMG. I know I'm not even going to attempt to write out her accented speech in dialogue. I just have such a fascination with Northern accents and Northerners in general (my fave actor is a Northern boy and I could literally listen to him read the phonebook his voice is so lovely), and little Northern girl growing up isolated away from the rest of the posh wizarding society to hide out during the war, HOPE IT MAKES SENSE. We'll just have to imagine her always talking about "my daddeh."

Katya loves spooky things so she might try to you know bond over that sort of thing. She tends more toward spooky than bloody but will have all the discussions about that!

Sylla basically grew up in a Guillermo Del Toro-directed Dickensian period piece horror show (I guess that's Crimson Peak though now that I'm writing that? STILL WORKS LBR), so spooky is this chick's bread and butter. Only she usually takes it way too far and goes wayyyyy out there. Where Holden doesn't like to talk, Sylla deeeeefinitely does :)

I will be equally unhelpful over here, too!! What a great first impression.

I'm so into how I'm-not-creepy(-but-actually-she-is-super-creepy) Sybilla is. She's in most of Kurt's classes, so it would be great if they had some kind of interaction. His heart is made of marshmallows and orphaned kittens, and he might be weirded out by her... well, weirdness. I'd kind of love it if Kurt had some kind of closet fascination with her apparently morbid fascinations because they're so unlike his own. How does she work? Does she bite? Only time will tell. As with the previous comment, more thinking tomorrow!

She has no idea how creepy she is, that is her normal :p She'd be very friendly with Kurt and make conversation! She likes happy people, she feels like it keeps her out of her own little melancholy phases. She'd happily be willing to answer his questions and be polite and sweet while she's talking about idk, something about ancient oracles using entrails to tell the future or something weird like that, that's how she rolls.

YEAAAH MADELINE look at me coming super late to this

Sylvester is in the same year! When he was in Duelling last year, he was probably very impressed with Sybilla's skills, and is less inclined to underestimate her. (Feel free to say that he HAS underestimated her in the past and she totally wiped the floor with him in a wizard duel, lol.) AND SHE'S HOT, so Sy has definitely flirted with her. :|a From the meme, it seems like they could get along surprisingly well? Sy is both deliberately and unintentionally obnoxious, and I think if you're able to just breeze past it like Sylla can, he'll stop trying so hard to be an ass and talk to you like a normal person. Sy definitely thinks she's weird, but he likes weird, and is very accepting when it comes to people's weird and possibly dangerous quirks.

Mina is in an Ebonhide senior. Mina probably thinks Sylla is strange and baffling, and that all her Gothic Horror Barbieness is a pretentious front. Mina enjoys duelling and doesn't have as much talent in it, but if you want an opponent who's competitive and passionate about getting better, they can totally spar. Mina's better at Transfiguration and determined to become an Animagus this year, so she might also know Sylla a little better through that?

Aaaand Ravi is a Ribbonfin senior prefect. Again, he'd know Sylla through Duelling/Fencing, but he's a LOT better at fencing than duelling, and would be happy to go a few rounds with the épée against her. He is... generally not into gory morbid stuff but he does find incredibly esoteric subjects really fascinating. Ravi's day-to-day demeanour is very mild (except in LARP), so maybe he won't be super interesting to her. But they could be friendly, if nothing else. ;u;

omg she probably has beaten him in duels, and is always very polite and graceful when she wins, because that's just the proper thing to do, isn't it? As long as he doesn't get in her way or hinder her from doing her own thing, Sylla's pretty chill with people. She's usually always wrapped up in herself and knows she can handle her own shit, so it's easier for her to breeze past. I think they'd get along okay also!

She'd gladly spar with Mina! And yeah, they'll probably get a lot closer with Animagus club, especially when Sylla starts stressing herself to death over it.

She'll still talk to him! And she respects his fencing skill, as she wants to get much better herself. She's your girl for esoteric subjects, even if she gets super obsessed and into them :P

HELLO MADELINE, this is Alex with my second character, Riley, and basically they cannot not know each other. Because these two are both tiny, and were both (fifth year?) Slytherins last year when Riley was a loser exchange student.

So, like, they have to have some kind of dynamic. Did they hate each other last year at Hogwarts? Were they just like, "lol whatever i'm not gonna know you next year ANYWAY"? IDK BUT I WANT THINGS.

Since Riley was at Hogwarts when Sylla was at Gooseberry, I think this would be their first time actually being at the same school together! So we might have to play it by ear! I do know Sylla has some strange fascination with the people banned from dueling club, and tends to watch them as if she's waiting for them to snap and give her something to watch (a la "PUNCH SOMEONE, FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT"), so that's probably her first impression of Riley in hearsay :p

LMAO WHOOPS, ALEX CAN'T READ. They just sent one tiny girl there to replace their previous tiny girl. Gotta keep the ratios nice and even. XD Riley will probably try to live up to the hearsay at some point, it was good to ban her from dueling club so early on.
