Alphard had always been an extremely family oriented person. That's not to say he always got along and agreed with certain members of his family, but he loved them all the same. Cygnus with his stoicism and inability to understand Alphard at all. Walburga who seemed to be more than willing to let him get away with just about anything (until, well, yes). His adorable nieces. His future nephews. Their children. Yes, Alphard loved his family and nothing would ever change that. Walburga had disowned him, but he still loved her and whatever Draco had to tell him certainly would not change how he felt about his nephew. Alphard understood all too well what their family could be like. He had seen his sister fall beneath the weight of it. Draco seemed to be faring much better than Alphard's sister though. He seemed to genuinely care for his future wife which was more than he could say for Walburga. His children were darling and appeared to love their father very much. The future Malfoys gave Alphard great hope for his family.
Setting the tea out in anticipation of Draco's arrival, Alphard had just finished when a knock came at the door and he smiled. He was worried about Draco. With Astoria gone, he knew his nephew had to be hurting. He wasn't sure what had spurred Draco to decide to fill Alphard in on some of the things he believed would drive him away, but a part of Alphard was happy that the young man was opening up to him. He only hoped he would be able to help him in turn. Pausing in front of the door to straighten his clothes out, it was only a moment before he was pulling the door open to welcome his nephew with a smile. "Draco!" he greeted happily, stepping aside to let him in. "Come, come."
