Alphard knew the inner workings of the Black family far too well to simply dismiss what Draco had to say. As a child, he'd had Walburga to shield him from a good part of it. Yes, he still faced it. Yes, he still had to deal with it, but at least he had his sister. Draco didn't have any siblings. It had just been him on his own. He had suffered so much, but he'd overcome it. He had not let it be the be all and end all of him. He had broken free of it, and at such a young age too. Alphard didn't think he would have been able to bear it with the same dignity that Draco had if he'd been in the same position.
"Draco, the person you are now is amazing. I truly mean it. You are far braver than I am." Alphard knew himself to be a true coward and it seemed that held true in the future, but Draco was not. "You are an intelligent, kind, considerate individual. You finally cast a positive light on our family, since it falls into such darkness." he insisted, giving him a reassuring smile. It only grew at his next statement. "I promise I will do everything in my power to remain here." he offered, squeezing his hand once more before saying "Now I'm going to hug you, yeah?" And with that, he stood up just a bit and wrapped his arms tightly around Draco, pressing a kiss to the top of his head and rubbing his back affectionately. "I love you, boyo. So much. So, so much."
