I'm Like a Bad Penny!

Less than twenty-four hours after the loss of Morag and Edwin I bring you the first of my new characters (though I'm still not sure who will follow or when it will be).

This is Matt O'Geary. He's in his early twenties and a complete and total Yankee. Though he was born in Korea he was adopted by an American family when he was three. He was raised as a Muggle in an extremely conservative and very religious setting a lot of which didn't take very well with Matt. Not the religion so much as the not very Christian nature of the teachings of the church.

Not that it really mattered much, he was effectively cut off by his father when they learned he was a wizard and though is mother defied her husband by getting assistance from her father to send Matt to school the relationships between Matt and his family are rather strained.

He's been working as a freelance reporter since graduating from Salem in 1998 and over the last few years he's started tracing his family as best as he could given the limitations in resources involved. He's finally traced everything back to the Sungs and Sung trading.

And Like the Phoenix I Emerge from the Ashes

I suppose I should start with apologies for my long, LONG absence. It wasn't an intentional one so much as a combination of life getting away from me a bit and feeling rather aimless as to what my purpose in game was but thanks to the awesome Alison I'm here to dust things off and give it another go.

This time around I reluctantly leave behind Morag and Edwin both felt flat and I honestly had/have no idea where I wanted to take them. I do return with Spencer and Mei both of whom felt a bit more real the last time I made this attempt and both of whom have a bit more interaction to give both myself and the rest of you. :)

So, to reintroduce my remaining two (who should be joined by one or two new characters...and perhaps a different old one before too long):

Firstly is Mei Chang

Mei is still working her butt off as a sous chef and taking cooking classes in her spare time because she's decided she wants to be a real chef. During my absence Mei has continued to be her usually doggedly cheerful self while working a bit too hard and not playing nearly enough. She's also been dealing with growing family tension as her older sister Cho has become increasingly close to her Muggle boyfriend and their family does not approve.

And then there's Spencer Quick

Anyone who's seen Spencer in the last six months has basically seen the blissed-out honeymoon version of him. He's rebuilding things with Yue and couldn't be happier. Don't be surprised if he zones out when he's talking to you, he just has different things on his mind these days. He should be coming back into the world a bit by now and will be taking more of an interest in things that aren't Yue.

Please, give me things. Lots of things.

I'm a little late to the show. Sorry. Weekdays can be a little crazy for me at the moment (though that is due to change as soon as we can hire and train someone for the position I currently have at work). But I'm here now with a nice group of oddballs. :)

First is Spencer Quick, resident hot head with a heart of gold. Spencer is just exactly who he was when we last saw him. Brash, loud, foul mouthed, hot tempered and a marshmallow under it all. He's got his radio show on WWN and is more than likely one of the first openly gay people in the public eye not that he really pays much attention to what anyone says about his life. He broke up with Yue when he freaked out about things getting serious so young. Since then he's been playing the field quite a bit.

Second is Morag Goldstein who is happily married to Anthony and working as a pediatric mediwitch. Her superiors are disappointed she chose to become a mediwitch instead of a Healer but she prefers the one on one interactions that are part of being a mediwitch.

Then comes Mei Chang. Mei is a bit different than the last version of her. Firstly, there is a PB change. More significant though are the changes in her history and character. Though she still dressed like a boy for the majority of her time at Hogwarts it was more to hide her body for one reason or another whether it was when she was overweight or once she had lost a bit too much weight. The boy's clothes let her hide. She's now in a much healthier place and works as a sous chef at a Diagon Alley restaurant.

Last comes my new character. Edwin Thicknesse is Ethan's twin brother. Ed is the more serious Thicknesse twin and the one more likely to get into a fist fight. He probably got in his share before and after the war though he focused exclusively on taking care of his brother during the war. Ed only fights when he feels like someone needs protecting. Like Ethan, Ed chose a career that allowed him to pursue his own passion but also made his grandfather absolutely crazy. He's a reserve Seeker for the Applebee Arrows and is an incredibly passionate player though one who follows the rules to the letter. He was a fairly popular student before the war though what people thought of him during and after the war remains to be seen. He's kind of quiet but friendly once you get to know him a bit.

Hello everyone, this is Dawn. Okay, I'm going to post mine before I go back and reply to Orla and Patricia. I'm bringing back four. Two were at both Purgatory and Absolution. Morag didn't do any eighth year and was only at Purgatory. Mei was one I picked up at Absolution. I played both Katie and Spencer at both games.

Spencer Quick realized part way through his last year at Hogwarts that the main reason he liked announcing Quidditch didn't really have a whole lot to do with Quidditch and more to do with being able to run his mouth unchecked to a captive audience (totally NOT how he would put it, of course). After school he started working for WWN where he was given a one hour time slot in the afternoon about a year ago. He DJs the first show in WWN history that is solely about Muggle music and it's surprisingly popular. Popular enough that they're thinking of expanding it to two hours. He also still plays guitar performs when he gets a chance. After freaking out over how serious he and Yue were getting their last year at Hogwarts, Spencer essentially sabatoged the relationship. Friends are always welcome and if anyone has any boys in need of an ex he's probably dated a bit since things ended with Yue.

Mei Chang For those who don't know her Mei is Cho's younger sister. In order to avoid the shadow of her seemingly perfect sister Mei avoided any aspect of femininity for a long time. Keeping her hair very short and dressing in boy's clothes (of course this might also have something to do with the fact that she was embarrassed over being rather more developed in the chest area than most Asian girls). The one thing that most students knew about her was that she refused to play Quidditch (she's afraid of heights) but loves football. Part way through her last year at Hogwarts she ditched the boy's clothes causing Evan to amusingly think there was a new girl at Hogwarts. Since school was out she briefly dated Yue Sung but has spent most of her time focusing on her work for the Department of Magical Games and Sports where her former life as a tomboy serves her well. All potential lines appreciated.

Katie Bundy was a reluctant member of the IS back during the Carrow regime. Back then she was frightened of her own shadow and terrified of breaking the rules. Thanks in a large part to her relationship with Seamus Finnigan she learned to follow her conscience rather than the rules a bit and she escaped from under the suffocating thumb of her frightening Aunt Angelica. She's worked hard to redeem herself in the eyes of her peers. People who know Katie now know some who knows when to follow rules and when to disregard them. She's more playful with a sarcastic sense of humor. But she does still prefer order in most things which is why working as a secretary for the DMLE works out so well for her. She can get most of her by-the-book-ness out of her system at work. She is still with Seamus and they're probably still bickering and making up fairly frequently. She needs friends!

Morag Goldstein chose to get married instead of taking an eighth year at Hogwarts. After the Battle she had assisted the overworked Healers (thanks to the training she received from Julian during her last year at Hogwarts) and she worked it out with the Healers that her existing practical knowledge combined with her marks prior to her final year were enough to make an exception to allow her into Mediwitch training. She knew that she had the ability to be a Healer but she preferred the more caring aspects of being a mediwitch and working closely with patients. She and Anthony have just purchased their first house (as Orla mentioned in Anthony's intro) and she's currently driving him mad trying to talk to him about decorating things. She misses all her friends and needs more people to try to take care of. :)
