it's my party and i'll cry if i want to...
Who: Kozue and the adoring public You
What: Festivities
Where: Bar Kidnap
When: July 21
Why: Because of presents and alcohol.

True to her word, Kozue had established herself in the VIP area of Bar Kidnap—still pretending to be blissfully unaware of the frightening or ominous implications of the name. She hadn't gone to much (or any) trouble to prove that this was a birthday party, however; she was dressed up, in an outfit a bit scantier than her normal going-out attire. She was sporting a green, sequin-covered minidress and a pair of heels of a ridiculous height. And her hair was even more carefully arranged than normal.

The VIP area was situated on a balcony, overlooking the rest of the club; from there, Kozue was engaged in chatting amicably with one of the older girls from the tennis club, but her attention kept drifting to the entrance downstairs. More people should show up. There weren't nearly enough for the party to be genuinely successful. So, every few moments, she cast a nervous glance downstairs.

The club itself wasn't all that packed; it was a weeknight, after all, and if any of the actual grown-up patrons noticed the steady stream of highschoolers, they weren't making a fuss. And the bouncers had either been bribed very efficiently, or were under instructions not to care, either.

Kanaye smiled and promptly downed most of his drink. He wiped his mouth off and sighed. "This is some good stuff, right?" he asked happily. "How is it, Maeko-chan?" he asked as he turned to her.

It tasted bad.

Maeko was a horrendously picky eater. And, it would seem, a picky drinker. It was all she could he to keep herself from expressing disgust outwardly at the taste.

Still, she put on a pleasant smile. It woul be ungrateful not to drinking it but it would probably be acceptable to drink it slowly.

"It's very nice, senpai! Thank you."

Kanaye was practically beaming. He could help Maeko-chan! It's great! He quickly downed his drink and poured the rest of the bottle into his glass. "Glad to help, Maeko-chan! For not dying!" he offered again, drinking his glass in one gulp. Again. And again. And again.

The disadvantage to dating an alcoholic. They get drunk quickly. "Yo, Maeko-chan!" he shouted, merely a few minutes later. "This place is a blast, right!?" Kanaye managed to make a question sound like a statement. "WHOO!"

Maeko tried very hard not to be concerned. Failing that, she tried very hard not to outwardly express her concern and was, for the most part, successful. She took another careful sip, placing her glass down to answer.

"It's...nice. Yes." She said, nodding.

Kanaye smirked and walked up to Maeko, putting his arm around her shoulders. Leaning close, he whispered, the smell of alcohol on his breath, "Shall we go somewhere more private, Maeko-chan?" Kanaye smiled again.

Naturally, Maeko misunderstood completely.

"You mean leaving? I can't go yet, I promised Misa-chan I'd meet her here." She said.

Kanaye was too drunk to bother to laugh at his girlfriend's obliviousness. "No, no, no," he started, trying to sound as seductive as he could, "I was just wondering if you and me could have some private time together. I'm sure there's a private place here we could use."

"Oh." Maeko thought for a second and nodded. "Okay then."

Kanaye smiled and held out his hand, walking Maeko over to the most secluded part of the club he could find. According to Kanaye logic, Maeko didn't like to do romantic things in front of people. Therefore, she would want to do romantic things not in front of people!

Kanaye decided to test this theory by grabbing Maeko and kissing her rather roughly, slipping a tongue in when he did.

Kanaye logic was incorrect. Maeko's sudden alarm took priority over her need to agree with everything and she pushed away from Kanaye with more force than she had really intended to.

"Sorry..." She said after a few seconds.

Kanaye blinked. His logic was NEVER wrong! Except when he was drunk. Kanaye had just noticed he was drunk. This is quite a problem.

He also just noticed he was on the floor. When did he get there? Kanaye stood up and blinked. "Oh. Sorry, Maeko-chan. Didn't mean to scare you." he said, managed to make a coherent sentence. "Can I try that again?"

Maeko shook her head.

"Sorry, please don't. I didn't hurt you, did I?"

Kanaye was very annoyed at this, but managed to smile. "No, I'm fine." Kanaye said with a sigh. "I'm sorry for scaring you. I'm just rather...drunk." he responded, not sounding drunk in the least. He walked towards Maeko again, and promptly fell flat on his face. He stood up and tried to bow, but only managed to almost fall again. "Please forgive me."

"Clearly." Maeko said, nodding and moving to support her boyfriend's weight. She didn't want him hurting himself. "It's okay. Do you want to go back to where everyone else is? You'd probably fall down less if you were sat down..."

Kanaye pouted. "I'd rather stay here with you..." he said sadly, "but if you insist, I'll go back. I need a freaking drink, anyway."

Kanaye leaned on Maeko a bit too much. He whispered "Sorry," into her ear again, still depressed.

"I'll stay with you there, okay?"

Maeko caught herself before she pointed out that Kanaye probably didn't need to drink more than he already had. There was a limit to how much she was willing to tread the thin ice of 'disagreeing with someone you like' and she'd already reached it for tonight.

Maeko struggled a little under Kanaye's weight but what she lacked in strength she more than made up for in being too stubborn to give up and started to tug him back toward the crowd.

Kanaye felt somewhat better at her words. "Thanks, Maechan." he said. His voice was still depressed, but he leaned off of Maeko a bit.

Once they reached the main party area, Kanaye's face broke out into a huge grin. He broke off of Maeko and ran the few more feet to the table in which he put down the drinks. He fell into the chair, but grabbed a bottle on the way down. Kanaye opened it and drank half of it before stopping to breathe. "That's the stuff!" he shouted, happy again.

Tom walked past Kanaye and Maeko, he appared to be looking for someone.

In fact he was looking so intently he nearly ran them over, though he saw them in time. Once he realized who he was passing though he simply made a "Tch" noise and continued on.

If Kanaye hadn't stopped leaning on her quite so much they'd have both been knocked down. As it was, Maeko stumbled and regained her balence. She glared at Tom's back as she and Kanaye moved toward where everyone was.

While Kanaye was distracted by alcohol, she decided to do what she did best and antagonize Tom. It'd mean she at least had some control in this whole situation.

"I don't know what it's customary to do in america." She said, frowning. "In this county it's customary to apologise when you do that."

Tom glanced back over his shoulder toward Maeko, and the rather inebriated Kanaye. He let out a breath.

"Well, turns out I don't give a damn about what's customary, or how you feel about it."

Kanaye had noticed his girlfriend was no longer around him. He found out where she was and proceeded to walk over there, glaring at Tom as he did so.

"I don't give a damn about you, Tom-san, so please stop antagonizing my girlfriend, ok?" Kanaye attempted to glare, but it was hard to do that when you were drunk. Speaking of which, he finished off the bottle he was holding. "Bad things would happen, most likely to me."

Maeko had decided that this was a challenge and that she was going to outright bully an apology out of Tom if she had to.

"It's okay, senpai. I'm used to arguing with him." She said, nodding, before turning back to Tom. "If you don't care about customs then why don't you go back to your own-" She caught herself there. Inappropriate thing to say in front of Kanaye and at Kozue's party. "-party?"

Tom frowned.

"How about I do that then? I'm glad to know neither of you care about me. How about we keep it that way. In fact how about you, both of you stay away from me from now on?"

Tom turned to continue his search. Then he paused, he felt a desire to ensure his words stung as much as possible. He turned toward Kanaye.

"Oh interestingly enough, your girlfriend told me the only reason she was dating you was because you saved her life. I guess she's gonna need to dump you soon, she's got a lot of people to go through huh?

Thanks so much for the relationship advice. Both of you."

And with that he turned and walked further into the club.

Kanaye blinked. "What the hell is his problem?" he asked, trying to drink from his empty bottle. Upon noticing it was empty, he glared at it. He glared at it so hard he almost missed Tom's words.

Almost. He attempted to whirl as calmly as possible, resulting in him turning rather quickly but comfortably. "What the hell is he talking about?" he asked, trying to keep his voice even.

Oh. She'd said something like that, hadn't she? Before, in her desire to win an arguement. Maybe antagonizing Tom was not such a good idea after all.

She watched Tom leave, almost in disbelief, not sure whether she should yell at him to shut up.

"...sorry." She said quietly, not even trying to deny it. For all her faults, she strongly believed in taking responsibility for her own actions. "...the second part wasn't true! I never said that part. I'm not going to go if you don't want me to."
