What the heck's going on? I know it's a Saturday, but unexpected trips are still a bad idea. ~~I swear I'm the only adult in this family.~~

( OOC: Say hello to AU Alaric. Isobel kept Elena, and still went to Duke and married Ric. Ric adopted Elena and they've been a happy family for a while now. He has no idea about vampires or anything like that, beyond Isobel's research and he's never been to Mystic Falls. )

Well, his wife never died, and by died I mean abandoned him to become an evil blood slut, so he never had to go on an angsty vengeance quest. And yeah, Jenna is a million times better for him than Isobel, but he doesn't know her so he doesn't realize he's missing out because he never got his heart all stomped on. Not to mention, he doesn't have to deal with a small town where half the high school's been eaten by mountain lions and supernatural creatures kill everyone you care about.

Plus? He gets to be a dad.

Are you really surprised he's happier? He doesn't know any better.

That said, I like things better the way they are. Even if I could have some ideal world where nothing ever went wrong and I never had to know about all this stuff and I never died and Matt never broke up with me...I'd still pick this. Even with all the bad stuff.

To someone else's kid. Can I say I'm finding it a wee bit odd that there's no mention of another sibling? That sends my mind into areas that I didn't really want to ponder. Ever.

And when you put it that way, I suppose I shouldn't be surprised that he's happy. I guess not walking in on your wife being dead-ished does take away a ton of trauma.

And I'm glad to hear that. I know I can't exactly give you anything remotely like a normal existence. But, well, it's not like this place is very normal anyway.

Okay, eww. I do not want to think about Ric that way. He's my history teacher slash Aunt Jenna's husband. That makes him like...pseudo-uncle. It's weird. Maybe...I hate saying this...maybe Isobel still wanted to leave. And she's just waiting until Elena's out of the house to completely traumatize him.

Even with the trauma, I bet he'd pick us over that. We're more fun.

Hey. I don't need normal. I don't. Besides, it's not like I had a normal life before we got together. I was still a vampire. Kinda cancels out anything close to normal. And anyway, maybe you missed the memo, but I love you. Why else would I put up with you as long as I have.
