You know what? This place is nuts. I'd say I was drunk and imagining all of this, except that it's impossible for me to get that drunk in the first place.

I'm not sure what the drinking age is in Canada where you're from, buddy, but I'm twenty-six. Plenty old enough to drink even if it doesn't do a thing for me.

Sorry. You look younger to me. Take it as a compliment?

Considering I stopped aging when I was sixteen, I'll take it for the truth.

Oh, and welcome to Colligo and all of that. To think, I once used to be the official greeter around this place. Wow have I been slacking off.

Thanks.

Run that part about the not aging by me again?

Not sure what there is to run past you. I don't age. I also don't get sick, don't stay dead, and don't feel pain. I guess, where you're from, I'd be called a mutant. Where I'm from, we prefer the term 'evolved human'.

Sounds kind of familiar, actually. Except for the not staying dead part.

I thought it might sound a little familiar. As my son already pointed out, you aren't exactly Mr. Incognito around here. In fact, if comic books and movies and cartoons and are anything to go by, you're kinda famous.

I'm Claire, by the way. Claire Winchester. It's nice to meet you.

See, that's a new thing to me. Comic books with me in them.

Likewise. I guess you already know who I am.

You start to get used to it, after a while. And... it isn't just comic books you need to get used to. Though - and not that I expect it to be any real consolation but - I do own the main video store in town and have most of the stuff you're from pretty much on lockdown so people can't just randomly read/watch stuff with you in it.

I do. And if you ever need anything, feel free to ask. I was one of the first ones to show up in this place so I try to do what I can to help the new arrivals.

That's ... good? I guess.

.. how far back does that media collection go?

That's a tricky question. There are a lot of different types of 'fictional' things out there about you. There are a handful of movies, the comics, and the cartoon. Plus the comics have different versions, too. Honestly? I'm not really sure just how far back they go. My brother would probably be the better person to ask when it comes to all of that. He was into comics. I was a cheerleader. That's probably all that needs to be said, really.

But if you ever want to borrow some of the stuff to check out, feel free. I just keep it out of the hands of other people. Not the person it's about.

Thanks. Might do that.

Is it common around here? People being from fiction?

Yes, it's pretty common. A couple of years ago it didn't seem that way but here lately it seems like just about anybody who shows up winds up having something in this city that relates to their reality back home. It can be a little, okay a lot, weird at first, but you just get used to it after a while. Kind of like the constant other weird things.

Constant other weird things like there are gods and demons and angels here? Aliens? People becoming years older overnight?
