Hello guys and gals! So after being asked a few questions in regards to the ins and outs of bringing someone back from the dead following the invasion, we decided to make a post to try and explain things in a bit more detail.
• All characters being killed off must wait until the plot is over before being brought back. The only exception to this rule are characters who can die and come back instantly via other means. (For example: Adam Monroe can be killed and, due to his rapid cellular regeneration, will come right back to life again unless he is slaughtered in a very specific manner.)
• As always, it is up to the players if their character(s) is going to die or not.
• It is also up to the players if their character(s) comes back at the end of the plot or if they would rather drop them following killing them off.
• If a character is dropped via being killed off, they cannot be picked back up by anyone else until after the plot has ended. At that point, however, they are as open and available as every other non-played character in existence.
• Characters do not have to be killed by slicing and dicing or by disintegration. Yes, these are the ways that the Toclafane kill but do keep in mind that people also can be killed by explosions, fire, mobs, a local trying to fight off a Toclafane, or any other number of methods. As long as they are killed off during this plot, they have the option of being brought back at the end of it.
• If you have only one character, we do not suggest killing them off as obviously that leaves you without anyone to play. However, should you really want to kill them off badly, we can tell you that this plot will have at least another week, if not longer, left to run so try to wait until closer to the end before doing so.
• Once a character dies, they will find themselves in a 'holding cell' of sorts. The holding cell will look, to them (and Death - more on that in a moment), like whatever location that character has the closest emotional connection to back home. (For example: Severus Snape's holding cell looks like the dungeons of Hogwarts.)
• Characters cannot visit/call/email/send smoke signals or carrier pigeons/anything else you can think of with other characters while dead and in their holding cell. This includes other deceased characters. They can, however, be visited by their own mental versions of those who might have normally spent time with them in that location when they were living. (For example: The Doctor, finding himself in his TARDIS after dying, can have conversations with any number of companions he might associate with his TARDIS.) Just keep in mind that these versions are going to represent how the character views the person in question, for good or bad, and will likely only pass through on occasion much as if the character were dreaming and/or reliving a very vague memory.
• It is up to the player whether their character's holding cell gives that character a sense of peace (in representation of 'Heaven') or a sense of something else (in representation of their own, private 'Hell'). We simply ask that you consider you character(s) closely when deciding this for them.
• If you would like, you can write narratives of your character(s) in their holding cell. Again, this is up to the discretion of the player.
• Characters will not remember their holding cell when they are once again alive. They can, however, remember what sort of sense it filled them with (good or bad), if the player so chooses. It is also up to the player whether or not they will remember their conversation with Death (more on that in just a second) but we do ask that no character remember the conversation verbatim as that seems a bit of a stretch considering they don't remember much else about being dead.
• Every character that dies will have a conversation with Death before being brought back to life. If you want to thread/log the conversation, that is of course fine. If you would rather simply discuss the conversation and what it likely entailed, that is also fine.
• Every character that dies will have to pay a price to be returned to life. The price is decided by the player of that character and should be something that the character will either consider a very high price indeed or something that could be 'for their own good' even if they don't realize it at the time. The point of these prices is to encourage people to take characters in a new direction in-game, so we want you to get creative with them!
• In addition, other characters who have not been killed can attempt to negotiate with Death to bring their friends/loved ones back. Whether or not Death will agree to their price is something that needs to be discussed between Death's player (Jessy) and the players of both the character being brought back to life as well as the one offering up the deal. Everyone must be in agreement for such a deal to be struck.
• If your character is also slated to die, they cannot make a deal with Death on another character's behalf.
• Again, the plot has at least another week to go, quite possibly a little longer given the wonderful reaction so far, so do keep this in mind when plotting out things for your character(s). Also remember that locals who are killed will not be returning and the Toclafane that are destroyed are being replaced regularly with even more of the little buggers. So by all means, feel free to off your characters in ridiculously heroic ways taking out as many Toclafane as they'd like as, no matter how many they wipe out, the Collector is going to simply send more along to take their place.
