It has come to my very unfortunate attention that I will need to find work here and given my specific circumstances, it cannot be something that would require me to be out in broad daylight.

Brief discussion with another brought forth the idea of piano lessons. I would also be willing to offer my talents as an actor, musician, artist, and native French speaker. Is there anyone who would wish to take me up on those or suggest where I may be able to?

And there are too many rules that are immediately broken a sentence later. "I before E" for example. Stupid rule that isn't even consistent.

Japanese makes a lot of sense but I don't want to spend decades learning kanji when the other two written forms will suffice.

And too many different spellings of words that sound the same. I do not understand it and still struggle with it despite speaking it for as long as I have now.

I rely on spellcheck sometimes and I refuse to feel bad about that.

What really confuses me is how differently English is used even in the same country. The UK is smaller, sure, but the slang and the accents are varied. The US has areas where it might as well be a whole other language to be taught even if someone is a native speaker.

Regional differences will always be there but the US takes it to another level entirely.

There is nothing to feel ashamed of. From what I have gathered, most Americans do not even speak more than one language.

Moving to New Orleans from Paris was quite the challenge at first. They speak a variation of French, but as you said, the regional accent makes all the difference.

This is correct. But many of them get SO MAD when someone speaks another language. As the children say: GET GOOD.

I am sure you adapted, though.

They are funny creatures like that, Americans.

Indeed. If there is one thing I excel at, it is adapting.
