about CIRCUS OBSCURAE has been traveling through Europe since 1124 and they are from Bulgaria. There have been some… obvious… changes to the circus over the centuries, but the employee type remains the same. Witches and wizards, yes. But goblins, ghosts, hags, vampires and other creatures that go bump in the night. Its fortunes have dwindled in the U.K. long ago, so they haven't been here in about a hundred years. But the Carrows have brought them specially for this event!
entrance
ID Badges/Entrance There has just been a barrier put up (similar to the one that is used on students when they have too many detentions…) so that students cannot escape the Hogwarts grounds (this spell has been on them since they arrived at Hogwarts). The magic is quite complex, and includes complicated elements that so they will be impossible to remove at this time. The main entrance to the castle is CLOSED. But Madam Pomfrey has secured the greenhouses as an entrance in case of an emergency. We ask that this OOC knowledge not reach a large audience, as we want everyone as contained as possible.
TICKETS Each student is given a large section of tickets from one of the professors. They were all given fifty tickets to spend as they wished. Nothing sinister here.
FIRST SIGHT Upon turning a corner of the castle, tents and rides rise. The tents and stands are painted a myriad of colours, although they tend to lean towards darker hues. A dirt path leads the way under a very scary clown to all the stands and tents and rides, and into the bright lights of FANGTASTIC! -- The carnival.
rides
FERRIS WHEEL This ferris wheel is much like any Muggle ferris wheel, except for one particularly… Haunting element. Each seat (fits two!) has a specific 'theme.' One of them makes you feel as though spiders are crawling over you, another has ghostly voices, still another makes you feel as though you're falling out. They are all perfect safe, but--spooky! Three tickets
GIANT BROOM SWING This spectacular gigantic swing starts on with fake brooms just high enough that a first year can get on and have their toes trail the metal ground, but it's comfortable enough for 7th years. Strap yourself in, because the straps are magically binding until the ride gets out, and the bearded wizard who operates it will make sure that yours is safe. Instead of merely going around like a merry-go-round, the brooms rise in the sky, and then the swing speeds up until all the riders are moving quickly through the night sky. Three tickets
DRAGON COASTER Those who had hoped that a roller coaster would be stupendous or even… large will be sorely disappointed. Instead, this pint-sized roller coaster does not stretch out too far, but there is still fun to be had by all! This dragon coaster just goes around and up and down, no loop-de-loops to be found. one exciting feature, however, is that it goes off the tracks for a section, eliciting scream after scream. And the louder your screaming? The brighter the (fake) flames the dragon sprays. Three tickets
BUTTERBEER BUMPER MUGS Under a large tent, a metal platform shifts and shuffles mugs around. Students get to take a seat when the ride starts the mugs shift and shuffle throughout the metal platform, banging into each other or being banged into. You can control the speed at which the mugs move and the directions they go. Everytime you hit someone, the smell of butterbeer rubs out into the air making it a scintillating smelling experience. Three tickets
SUPER SCARY SLIDE This slide has a number of steps to climb up (exercise!) to reach the top. But this very tall slide has some very scary excitements to experience. It's a long way down, with screams that cry out that may drown out yours as you race down the slick (feels like ooze!) slide. Three tickets
games
The prizes are the same at all games. The games are moderately difficult although the difficulties are adjusted for younger years (the carnies make their guesses). The prizes are these dolls. You have to trade in two other dolls to get the large ones (Hermon and Maurice).
SHRAKE CATCH Shrake, the creature that does their best to break apart nets, are in a tall tank. Students must dip a Muggle net on a long stick. Students must catch a shrake (who stay near the bottom) and lift them up to the top of the tank before the shrake has freed itself from the net. Three tickets
STRENGTH O' SPELL How well does your magic fare? Test it out! Similar to the 'test your strength' games of Muggle carnivals, this game has you test the strength of your spell. Generally, the darker your magic the more your spell will manage, although that's not exactly bandied about. Gifted witches and wizards, no matter the spell, will score high. Three tickets
BUTTERBEER BOTTLE RING TOSS Butterbeer bottles are arranged in rows and clusters throughout the booth. Students are given rings that they must use to toss around the butterbeer bottles. It's harder than it looks. Are those rings weighed? Well, they'll never tell you! Three tickets
WHACK-A-GNOME A metal box has ten holes. And out of these holes pop up (fake!!) gnome heads who jeer at you. But you have a mallet, and that mallet is fun to smack them down with. Get a high enough score and you get a prize! Three tickets
PLATE BREAK As the game suggests, this is quite easy. Stand backwards with your wand over your shoulder and attempt to hit plates with a spell. Hit five plates in 10 seconds and you win! Three tickets
entertainment
THE BAND & DANCEFLOOR Music fills the air. A jazz band is playing haunting tunes, with screams puncturing the notes. Upon careful look, students would notice that the band members and the sultry songstress are all vampires. There is a Romanian lilt to the singer's voice, suggesting that this band might not be native to Great Britain.
There is a well-lit dancefloor near the band so that couples, groups, or singles (here's looking at you, Luna) can get their groove on.
DANCING HOBGOBLINS Between tents and stands and witches and wizards alike, a troupe of hobgoblins streams through the carnival. They pinch at heels and let out shrieking noises as they run about. Every once and again, when there is a lull in the music, they abruptly stop their miniature reign of terror to burst out into song and perform a creepy dance including group acrobatics in the form of 'hobgoblin' pyramids and towers. If those nearby don't clap loud enough they kick them in the heel.
STILT WALKERS WATCH OUT!!! Creatures of all types are standing high above with six foot stilts. And there's a goblin on a pogo stick. These walkers don't mind getting extremely close to students as they walk through the circus.
THE FIRE GOBLIN AND BUTTERCUP The goblin and the miniature dragon walk around the circus grounds and every once in awhile, do a trick! Buttercup breathes fire and the goblin… swallows it. Where does it go…?
GHOSTS There's really no warning for these apparitions. They appear and disappear with little care for who they might be scaring. These are not sweet ghosts like the Hogwarts ghosts. They are mean and nasty.
LIL SEBESTYÉN This miniature abraxan is perhaps the only sweet thing at the carnival. He is given space to fly, but is tied around the ankle and no, you won't be able to figure out how to get him free. This pure white fuzzy horse is sweet and will eat feed out of your hand. It costs Four tickets to feed him.
FACE PAINTING Do you need a little extra oomph! with your costume? It's only five tickets for some expert face painting by a beautiful woman. But--er--were those fangs when she smiled? The paint will last up to a month depending on if you want a temporary tattoo. Just ask for the longest lasting paint.
food
FRIGHTFUL FIZZIES Get your fill of fizzy drinks here! Flavours like orange, coke, lemon-lime are available. The dispenser is carefully watched by a hag who eyes the children a bit hungrily as they give her one ticket for a cup.
SWEET SPIDERWEBS Don't worry. It's just cotton-candy! Two tickets!
OGRE PIMPLES Uhm. Pretend they don't call it. It smells buttery and salty and--oh, thank Merlin! It's popcorn. Get a bag for just two tickets!
FRIGHTFUL FUNNELS These funnel cakes are delicious! They come with powdered sugar or strawberries and whipped topping. They're large enough to share, which is good because they are four tickets!
CRAZY CONES The ice cream is delicious! It sort of makes you wonder if they are the ones who took Flor--No. It can't be. Can it? In any case, the flavors are macadamia nut pineapple, peanut and almond lime, pumpkin cinnamon snap, raspberry coconut chocolate and… plain vanilla. Two tickets.
PULSING PIZZA You're in luck. It just ... Is pizza. Pepperoni, cheese, or one covered in veggies, or one covered in meats. Mmm. What a nutritious dinner. Three tickets a slice.
