Great. He was in danger. Again. This place - this damn apartment building - had been a godsend when he found out about it. An exact place in New York where he needed to be in order to do what he had to do. He'd moved in without a second thought, never once imagining that the danger would increase exponentially a matter of weeks after he arrived.
Fairy tales. Magic. Vampires. Books becoming real. His half-belief in everything was starting to strain at the edges. How could you say in good faith that vampires weren't real when you'd seen one drinking blood? How did you deny the existence of invisibility when you'd seen a man go from not being there at all to being right there, all the way from his bones outward?
It weighed on the mind just the tiniest bit. And his headaches had been worse of late, which didn't help. Neither did arguing with people who couldn't seem to make up their minds about anything and cursed at you for everything you did.
So. Danger. At least this time, he had a warning.
Freed from his apartment for lunch, Aiden found himself walking down the street, not far from the building, when he looked up and saw a small tea shop. He stared at it blankly for a few long moments before his memory clicked in with the recognition of the name. The woman who ran it was the one who could see the future. Curiosity and skepticism chimed in along with the current of worry, and so Aiden found himself meandering inside, looking around at everything on the walls, on the shelves, in the cases.
