who: Sam and Jay
when: Little over two years ago
where: Guthrie household
what: Secret Origins. Sam Guthrie's powers have manifested and within days has already been recruited into Xavier's school. It's time for Sam to make his good-byes, which aren't all going over well.
Sam Guthrie hadn't done a lot of travelling in his time. The extent of where he'd been in the world could most be confined to the state of Kentucky, specifically to this part of the Appalachians. There was always so much to do on the Guthrie farm and with the large number of children it wasn't like Sam's parents could ever afford a vacation. Since this was the only world Sam had ever known, he was terrified of leaving it. He had been recruited to a school in New York for mutants, that would help him with his newfound powers and let him resume his schooling. Sam didn't want to leave his family or his home, but his parents insisted and he couldn't blame them. He knew how his conservative town would react if they learned he was a mutant. Hell, the Cabots already thought Ma was with how many kids she had popped out. Leaving town would help save his family. Plus, he had already disappointed his parents once by dropping out of high school to work full time. He didn't need to do that again, even though he did think the family still needed the extra income.
The decision had been swift and Sam didn't take long to pack what little he had. His dad was going to drive him out to the regional airport, about an hour away, and then he'd take a connecting flight from NYC to some place called Westchester. New York City. Even though he was only going to be in the airport, Sam was intimidated and he was really afraid. He was afraid of a number of things, least of which was his future and himself. Sam was kind of a silent wreck right now and the act of saying good-bye to his family wasn't going to make things any easier.
He had made his good-byes with Paige and all the little ones. It was almost twenty minutes until he and pa were going to drive out and there was one sibling he hadn't said farewell to. Sam had seen Joshua Guthrie out of the corner of his eye, but then the boy had vanished before Sam could get to him. It was hard to hide in the Guthrie household, especially since no one had a room to themself. Sam barged back into his room as if he had forgotten something, imagining Joshua might have snuck back in since he didn't hear the back door open. The kid couldn't have gotten far, even if he had climbed out the window to escape. "Josh?"
