Josh was shutting him out again. He didn't want to hear the excuses, never had. Why didn't Sam understand that Josh wanted -- needed -- his big brother, too? He only had one and he'd grown quite attached, even if they had their spats. He was a constant in his life, and Josh thrived on those constants. Pa was the most important man in Josh's life, but Sam offered something else. Someone closer because he'd just gone through that age much more recently.
Josh pulled himself through the fence, turning again to face Sam even as he backed away steadily, one slow step at a time. He felt safer now; he could take off whenever, Sam wouldn't have the chance to grab him. "Yeah, maybe I'll still have alla that, but Paige, me, all the others, we're all losin' our big brother! It's not fair!!" His fists clenched. "Someone's gonna have tah pick up alla yehr slack!" He turned at that, wiping at his eyes. "But what should yah care, huh?" He couldn't be there any more, staring over at Sam. He turned again, suddenly running once more.
