"Sonuva..." Sam mumbled, fighting to get a pant leg unstuck and then trying to fit his foot over the inside of the sill to get out. By the time Sam managed to make it through the window, he had lost his footing entirely and was practically falling out of it. Reflexively, he brought his arms up to shield his face as he took a spill. The rest of his body reacted in a different way from the surprise, preservation kicking in and mutant powers kicking off. With a roar of smoke and energy Sam was launched at an angle to the ground, skidding against it and coming up like a baseball player sliding into homeplate scant yards from where Josh was running. Unlike a baseball player though, it was Sam's head that led the way instead of his foot.
Sam sat up slowly in the smoke, surprised as always that he wasn't hurt at all thanks to his blast field. He was never going to get used to that sensation and still couldn't believe something was actually broken. Coughing out so he could breathe, Sam waved his arm to clear the smoke and dust of fresh earth he had kicked up and looked for where Joshua had gone. "Josh?!" Sam was perplexed, hoping he hadn't crashed into his brother.
