Game 89
Who: Everyone!
Where: Arena
When: Day 132, evening
What: Game time!

[The Call to the Arena today is the simple sound of hammer on metal. Rhythmic, tireless it's almost a marching tune to those who happened to hear and follow it.

When you enter the Arena bare land quickly gives way to drifts of snow and barren, snow-striped trees. The further you go in, the deeper and deeper the snow gets. By the time you can make out the broad, grinning statue on the throne between gusts of snow laden wind, the snow chest-deep on most.

In the center, at the statues feet are two very welcome things at this point: Fur wraps of some unknown white animal large enough to drape around you and a metal pot of hot chocolate and several ceramic cups.]

HA HA HA! Bit of an effort wasn't it? I had to get your blood pumping for this one! Everyone warmed up?

BUNNYCORN - FORTRESS OF JUSTICE
[info]failhero
2010-05-23 01:19 am UTC (link)
[Its about a head shorter than Almaz and being covered in RIVER SLUDGE similarly to Mao's to fortify it. Its big enough to fit all of Bunnycorn and has a moderate amount of snowballs. Some normal, some yellow, some green. But mostly it is more designed to protect than attack.

It is otherwise wholly unremarkable. A three walled fortress full of fluff]

[Made of mushroom caps and sludge, smaller and shorter than the Fortess of Justice; just big enough for an evil Overlord and princess to take shelter. Mao is also bogarting the last of the blue and red snowballs here, as well as a gigantic pile of the normal, yellow, and green.]

[Hydracula's fort is a truly intimidating sight to behold. From the front there are windows visible. Slatted windows made from fencing, so good luck getting a snowball through there. They've also bashed together a roof from the boards of an old cart (which they proceeded to wrap with barbed war just in case); there is a decent gap in the roof at the back of the fort, but that also happens to be where they decided to put their ramshackle catapult for return fire purposes. :Db And, although it isn't visible, there is an emergency escape tunnel through the snow in the back of it.]

[The ground in front of and around the fort certainly looks safe, but it's been laced with wooden blocks all throughout to trip up the footing of anyone who dares approach. There's also a four foot deep moat in the hard packed snow the resident tiny dug and laced with rusty nails. It surrounds the fort and has been hidden thoroughly beneath layers of fluffy snow.]

[Good luck.]

[PS: IT IS NAMED TETANUSNAUT :Db

The snowballs may also contain hidden tetanus carrying rusted bits.]

CEPHEON TRACTORFORT 'O DOOM + CATAPULT
[info]time_andagain
2010-05-23 01:32 am UTC (link)
[THE TRACTORFORT:

It is a ~masterpiece~ of fortitude! The walls have been built up and strengthened with fence posts, the metal panels from the tractor have been salvaged and packed into the front of the fort walls with water poured over to freeze and strengthen. Corn husks and stalks planted in the top of the fort walls reduce visibility and add a flair of style. The tires from the tractor have been added to the sides of the fort for no apparent reason other than to pay homage to the tractor which so nobly sacrificed its existence to the making of a fort and catapult.

Miscellaneous metal bits were implanted in the fort walls for style and fashion and because we felt bad leaving them out when all of their tractorpart friends were being put to such great uses.

THE ARMOR:

Grates from the tractor have been laced through with strips of material from the tractor seat to form workable shields to arm the TRACTORFORT's mighty defence force.

THE CATAPULT... coming soon to a descriptive comment near you.]

THE NOBLE AND MIGHTY CEPHEON ARTILLERY PLATFORM
[info]tothelight
2010-05-23 01:53 am UTC (link)
[ BEHOLD the grand Catapult, a testament to the most admirable ingenuity that is Cepheon engineering. The main body has been constructed from the bare bones of the late benevolent tractor, with the main beam itself is of several long lengths of metal frame, tightly bound together for extra strength. Wires and an exhaust pipe form the roller-and-crock apparatus to draw the mighty machine, while fan belts cunningly wound to provide the tension necessary for achieving prodigious distances. The driver's backrest occupies pride of place and role as the bowl into which the most deadly projectiles will be armed. The entire machine itself is mounted on what was formerly the roof of the noble tractor-that-was, and plaited wires form ropes with which to drag the whole thing by.

[ Stacked on a smaller sledge, made from leftover frame parts and wiring, is a pile of frozen pumpkins. ]

[ Also, the pumpkins may in fact be internally loaded with a reasonably flammable quantity of fossil fuels. ]

[ Cepheon Motors would like to insist that the Noble And Mighty Cepheon Platform itself does not fail to local government fuel efficiency standards for this fact. ]

Pygnus - An Ice Fort
[info]revanchism
2010-05-23 01:51 am UTC (link)
[Set up in a corner, Pygnus has built a sturdy wall by packing snow around wire, wooden planks and shields. The wall has been further reinforced by the addition of water to create a layer of ice over the outer side of the wall. Figures armed with spears peek over the wall; some of these are in reality training dummies on poles, others are actual Pygnus members, but in the darkness of the Dark Path it becomes difficult to tell apart.

This wall will be difficult to break through and slippery to climb, particularly if people will be jabbing at you. To handle ranged defense, there is a moderate complement of snowballs and iceballs.]

I still think we should call it the Snowforge.

[LACANIA: We Need A Cooler Fort Name]

*Against the side of the house, three great walls loom, apparently featureless, topped only by long icicles that shed an eerie glow (thanks to mysterious undergarments buried directly beneath). Beyond the walls, awaiting the unwary is a deep ditch; snow is build up beyond it into a secondary rampart, to provide defenders with additional cover.

The field beyond seems unchanged and unaltered; the rope swings are gone, but the slide remains. However, just beneath the snow -- though deep enough to be easily overlooked -- run rope snares, tied firmly to the swingset's frame. They're scattered across the seemingly empty yard; unwary attackers stand an excellent chance of falling victim to one.*

Forest Fantasy - Delpavo

Nestled in a thicket of trees, there is something magical. Of course, it may be hard to see at first, because the path through the trees there has been turned into a fine skating rink and covered over again with light snow; a slippery and treacherous place to try and find footing indeed. The first thing one might spy while trying not to fall is an outer snow wall, formed lovingly and decorated in the shape of a medieval castle, the soaring turrets a clear distraction from the bent-over saplings behind it, catapults just waiting to rain snowballs down on approaching foes.

Beyond that, the main fort is a sturdier place, branches woven between and nailed to trees to create solid walls, and covered over with snow in the same castle design, decorative turrets climbing up the rough bark of the supporting trees. Narrow gaps in the fortifications allow for snowballs to be thrown from within, and ice-pane windows give a good view of the outside. The plywood roof is held up by sturdy 2x4 beams, and is string enough to support a person's weight if it has to. The roof can lift for entrance or, should the main fort be overrun, escape.

Snowballs are stacked both by the outer wall and within the fort proper, and, at need, they can be passed between the two.

Finally, well hidden, two tall trees have branches nailed to their trunks to create a ladder, and up among the branches, safely secured, are two half-rain barrel crow's nests, stocked with snowballs should one need to attack those climbing from below.

All parts have been lovingly decorated with a dolphin, peacock, and hammer-and-anvil motif. Artists renditions can be found here and here, and the plans were sketched out here.
