Forest Fantasy - Delpavo
Nestled in a thicket of trees, there is something magical. Of course, it may be hard to see at first, because the path through the trees there has been turned into a fine skating rink and covered over again with light snow; a slippery and treacherous place to try and find footing indeed. The first thing one might spy while trying not to fall is an outer snow wall, formed lovingly and decorated in the shape of a medieval castle, the soaring turrets a clear distraction from the bent-over saplings behind it, catapults just waiting to rain snowballs down on approaching foes.
Beyond that, the main fort is a sturdier place, branches woven between and nailed to trees to create solid walls, and covered over with snow in the same castle design, decorative turrets climbing up the rough bark of the supporting trees. Narrow gaps in the fortifications allow for snowballs to be thrown from within, and ice-pane windows give a good view of the outside. The plywood roof is held up by sturdy 2x4 beams, and is string enough to support a person's weight if it has to. The roof can lift for entrance or, should the main fort be overrun, escape.
Snowballs are stacked both by the outer wall and within the fort proper, and, at need, they can be passed between the two.
Finally, well hidden, two tall trees have branches nailed to their trunks to create a ladder, and up among the branches, safely secured, are two half-rain barrel crow's nests, stocked with snowballs should one need to attack those climbing from below.
All parts have been lovingly decorated with a dolphin, peacock, and hammer-and-anvil motif. Artists renditions can be found here and here, and the plans were sketched out here.
