Theodore and Del: Shop Talk
Who: Theodore Chambers and Delyth Davies
What: Dinner, drinks, and shop talk
Where: Theodore's Lakeside Cottage
When: Recently
Warnings/Rating: Low
The cottage was cozy and a cheerful fire was going in the fireplace. It was a small place, really perfect for two people who wanted to get away from it all, with warm wood tones and decor that definitely leaned toward "Americana." Theodore hadn't done much with the place, though he might begin to, if he was going to start living here long term. He was tempted to dive into something else, to unravel the mysteries of Repose one by one. Yes, he had a book to finish before March, and his obligations to the first two before then, but he sometimes missed the puzzle and challenge of Cursebreaking, of intellectual problems he could really sink his teeth into.
Delyth had provided the rosemary chicken, Theodore the wine, and a store-bought pumpkin roll for dessert, because 'tis the season. And store-bought it may have been, but in Theodore's estimation, 1: You could never go wrong with any dessert that incorporated cream cheese filling or frosting of some variety, and 2: It was undoubtedly likely to be leagues better than anything he himself might have whipped up in the kitchen. It was a pleasant meal, with pleasant talk, because Theodore and Del had always gotten along. And it was good to see a face other than his own around the cottage. It was hard to believe Elaine had already been gone over a month.
Theodore took his wine into the small sitting area, waving his hand to mute The Worst Witch on the small flatscreen, because, well, 'tis the season, indeed. "If I keep eating like this, my next shopping trip may be to buy some larger pants," he admitted, picking up a few battered texts from the coffee table after setting down his wine. "Advanced Potions-Making: literally a schoolbook from my final two years at Lindmarch, but considering it is basically wizard university at the end there, dead useful. Venenum Arcanum: mostly poisons, I'm afraid. Carta Venatorum." Theodore wrinkled his nose. "A bit...restricted. From my father's library. But there may be potions in here. It's been many years since I've looked at this one." The cover felt...oily, and he set it down somewhat gladly. "Healing the Mind. Not from the Self-Help section of your local Barnes & Noble," he smirked. "This may be your best bet, though it's rather charm-heavy."
