"I can break the curses that other people create. This is...this place? It's not that. It's something in the air and in the rocks and trees and buildings," Theodore said. "Pervasive, even...natural. But hard to pin down. I've never experienced anything quite like it, honestly."
Theodore felt better now that he'd shared. He'd told the story, gotten it out of his system, and Delyth was being understanding, and a good friend about it. It had happened so long ago, after all, it really wasn't the burden it once had been. He'd made his peace with it, mostly, and it was just another part of his life, another whole life, even. "Not at first. Again, I had Jamie, and that helped. I didn't get sent to prison; that helped also." He didn't clarify that prison had been a real possibility not because he'd taken his father's life, but another's. The one required to join the Dark Lord's cause. "I received a year of probation, instead, with the direction that I was to help rebuild the school. Jamie was still a student that year so...it really all worked out as best as I think could have been hoped for, under the circumstances."
