Noah and all his brothers had manners thumped into them from a very early age, and although they now seemed old-fashioned, he'd never managed to shake them. Julia, independent and self-sufficient, had viewed them with amusement, and May had accepted them as her due. Lisa seemed to accept them with equanimity. He opened the car door for her and offered his hand, and she put hers in his and allowed him to assist her from the car. He liked to watch her move; she had a smooth grace that made him feel--not clumsy, because he wasn't, but certainly more poky elbows and knees.
Lisa had dressed beautifully in a close-fitting dress of dark green that made her hazel eyes look greener, her skin creamy and perfect. The dress was sleek and sophisticated, and accented her curves wonderfully. She'd left her hair down, and it was a dark curly mass around her face and shoulders. A bit of breeze tossed it into her face, and Noah reached down and smoothed it away. The curls clung to his fingers, and he gently disentangled them. He smiled, then glanced down to her mouth, so soft, pink and full before looking back up into her dark-lined eyes.
He stepped back, and offered her his arm. Lisa smiled and stepped in close, put her hand on the inner crook of his elbow for the walk across the restaurant parking lot. He liked it, liked how she wasn't afraid to touch; it had been long enough since anyone had that he'd almost forgotten how something so simple could make him feel so warm.
"I'm glad that you wanted to come to dinner with me; I'd be sitting in an empty apartment right now, if not for you. I've come to enjoy your company, very much." He paused, then reached over and touched her hand on his arm, a quick, light touch. "You look beautiful tonight. Green suits you."
