Things were not as calm and comfortable as Washington had thought, particularly not today, at Seattle University. Many students, teachers, and ordinary citizens had decided that enough was enough. They refused to have their rights limited, and today they would assemble and see that their voices were heard.

A group at least sixty strong had assembled in the campus courtyard, with signs and banners waving in the summer breeze. A police presence had also assembled to keep an eye on things, though everything seemed to be peaceful so far, and some were even looking at the protesters with an approving sort of eye, as if they may be standing there with them had they not had a job to do.

[Apologies for the delay, had a bit of a work snag. Feel free to mingle a bit. A comment will be posted when the shots and action start to happen!]

Senator Speaks Out on Controversial New Resolution

WASHINGTON DC - Senator Bryce Simmons (I-Colorado) spoke up about a controversial new resolution to limit anti-lottery internet posts Wednesday in a candid interview with National Nightly News, openly criticizing the administration and his fellow congressman.

"This is ludicrous," Senator Simmons said. "This is the United States of America, not the damn People's Republic. They're dictating who can have children, and how many children you have to have, and now on top of it, they're trying to limit what can be said on your own web page." Senator Simmons also criticized the relatively low-key media coverage of the resolution, suggesting a possible government sanctioned cover-up.

"This is news to you, isn't it? Even the media doesn't know much about it. They don't want anyone to know, because they know good and well that you wouldn't like it," Senator Simmons said outside the Capitol building yesterday afternoon. "They don't care about their constituents anymore. They know what they want and they're going to do it regardless of what you say. You're not people to them, you're not even votes. You're just numbers."

Subject: Questions and thanks

Hi there,

Thanks for agreeing to answer these questions. I hope you understand that as I won't be hearing your answers to them before I ask the next one there may be some that are repetitve, or you have already answered in earlier ones. Also, again, any information you provide will be treated with the utmost confidentiality, it's purely for research into the affects of the marriage lottery system and how it's affecting the individuals and the family structure.

That said, here are the basic ones, and we will take it from here, if you are happy to continue after this. Again, thank you for participating and I look forward to your input.

Questions

How old are you?

Is this your first marriage?

Is this your spouse's first marriage?

What is the age difference between you and your spouse?

Had you ever considered, or been in a position to consider marriage before?

Are you and your spouse compatible? (by this I mean do you have things in common, shared interests, a foundation for a future)

What was your concept of marriage before the lottery system was brought in?

Has this changed since it's introduction?

Has it changed since being drawn and paired?

What do you believe is the purpose of the government in legislating to have the lottery an act of congress?

Would you have married of your own choice if given the opportunity?

Would you describe your childhood as 'happy'?

How would you describe your parent's marriage?

I will leave the first round as these, and I hope I haven't scared you off! Please feel free to say as much as you would like.

I look forward to hearing from you soon,

gratefully,

Georgina Lincoln

What an amazing response!

George sat staring at the notes she'd taken that night with Dr Kuo, going over a number of the things he's said in her head, making sure she had a good grasp on the information and of course his intonations as he'd said them. Intonation and his body language was so important.

She'd learnt over the years that watching someone as they spoke was even more important than the words they said. Intonation and good old fashioned body language would reveal more about a person's real thoughts and plans than the actual words, or at least give a good indication of whether they were telling the truth, or trying to hide something. Building a level of comfort with an interview candidate was also important, helping them feel comfortable and secure enough to give the information freely and honestly.

She sighed happily as she finally put the notes aside, slipping them into a folder with the doctor's name on it, ready for easy finding later. She pulled her diary towards her and flipped it open, scanning the entries in it for the next few days. She wondered whether she should have spread them out a little more but decided it was best to strike while the iron was hot, and with the numbers of people who were coming out of the woodwork to talk she was sure that the iron was well and truly hot!

Thursday

Friday

Saturday
Lunch Jen - Lakeside Cafe

It was only as she was running her finger down the list of appointments that she realised something else. She flicked the screen on, glancing back at the appointments and what she'd written down as the flatscreen came to life. Into the journal and scrolling and yes, there it was. Jeff Novak. She'd only written his name down as Jeff when first filling out her planner, but it was another situation where the spouse of someone who'd offered to talk with her had also done the same. She leaned back in her chair and smiled to herself, nodding slowly. Getting the story from both sides of the coin was going to be a great benefit and she reached over and flicked off the screen again.

Now, to sleep, given that she had a very busy day scheduled ahead of her!

John strode down the hallway, the tails of the long lab coat he wore over his blue scrubs fluttering as he walked. He couldn't check his watch as he held a tall styrofoam cup in each hand, but he knew he was a few minutes late and hoped that Ms. Lincoln hadn't given up and gone home.

But as he came around the corner, he saw a tall, sharply dressed woman with a mass of long curly dark hair standing there. She didn't seem impatient or put out, and John was glad of it; his job frequently made him late for any appointment.

She looked up as he approached, and she had a nice smile.

"Ms. Lincoln. I'm sorry I'm late. It is, unfortunately, an occupational hazard. Please accept my apologies, and have a cup of coffee."

He held out the cup to her, and when she took it, he reached into his coat pocket and fished out his keys to unlock his office.

Deli Life

Who: AJ and Kyle
What: Deli Dinner
When: Monday night
Rating: PG?

The lunch rush had come and gone. AJ had taken his break at 2:30 to pick Amy up from school and take her out for ice cream, and was now back until closing. Closing was his least favorite time of the day, he preferred the continuity and occasional witty banter he enjoyed with his lunch regulars. The last minute people who showed up right before closing were usually nutters, or in a terrible hurry to get home, making them ornery and snappish. The worst were the rushed ones who were insane. Hopefully he didn't have too many of those tonight.

There weren't any customers in the deli at the moment, and AJ was taking the time to refill the salad dressings. Leaving his "Back in five minutes" sign on the counter next to the bell, he headed into the back room to find the jug of Caesar.
