A widow after only two years. Jesus. At least with Julia, he'd had a decade, all told. And still ten years had been far too short.
"Two years isn't nearly enough," he said, and gave her hand a little squeeze. "I'm sorry. You should have had more." That she'd loved Scott as much as he'd loved Julia was very clear. If nothing else, they both understood the loss of a loved one, surviving and continuing on.
