Who: Rhiannon, NPC fruit merchant and Conlan
Where: The food market
When: Early morning
The grocery list had grown ever so much since the jubilation had started, that they were no longer able to reduce the purchases to once or twice a week, reserving an appropriate time for Rhiannon and her brother to do it together while Aoife, his wife, held the inn by herself, sometimes with their father as well. As it was, now, not a day passed without something being needed. And so here Rhiannon was, with parchment in her hand, a long list scribbled on it as she walked the bustling market and enjoyed the smell of the still-warm bread already in her bags.
At least she was not in charge of the drinks - that had been Rian's job, riding out on their rickety carriage to purchase whole barrels of ale, different wines, mead and all sorts while, as usual, Aoife took over management. The children stayed with grandfather, and Rhiannon only hoped they didn't make him run after them too much.
Hot as it was, Rhiannon had decided to add fruit to the list as well as vegetables, and she was just about to order some peaches and oranges when she noticed the incredibly inflated prices on this particular merchant. "These didn't use to be so expensive."
"Oh, you know how it is." The merchant laughed slyly.
"...No, I don't. These special oranges? Magical peaches?" She asked, brow raised. The man laughed again, looking at her as though she were a dimwitted child.
"Well, lots of procurement means the prices drive up-"
"There's no else at this stand."
"Listen, if you're not going to buy them can you move it along, go over to Greg over there and buy some of his rickety off-season grapes instead! Plenty more people will buy these apples you're not willing to pay for."
Rhiannon looked around. "There is still no one else here. I'd advise lowering your prices a little, if not back to what they were before. Or you'll be eating peaches, oranges, apples and strawberries for all meals."
The man looked angry, and suddenly grabbed Rihannon's wrist. "Look here, little girl-"
"No you look here. You know me, I was not born yesterday and I am no tourist. I am no farmer but I know what these are worth and you are robbing me and anyone else who dares stop by your stand. I'm not certain but I am willing to bet you belong to a guild, a guild I could complain to about your rudeness and unreasonable prices." She swallowed, ready to bluff. "Or I could gather a bunch of drunken violent men just waiting for a reason to slap someone into the ground and run you out of town. So you be careful, yeah? And let go of me right now."
