Rhiannon expected nothing, so she nodded, resigned. She continued fidgeting with the wicker basket while Conlan spoke. "I don't want you in trouble on account of me, Conlan. Perhaps we should forget all this. It's my burden to bear. My mess to get out of."
Except there hadn't been a mess until a few moments ago, not really. And the truth was that if Rhiannon could have controlled herself, there would never have been one. She studied Conlan's face, unable to really ascertain just how much on her side he was. She nodded, lips forming a straight line in lieu of a smile, to tell him she understood well despite his missing word. "And if you can't, and I can't...you'll have to do your duty, won't you?
