ROSE & DAMIEN

It had been a few hours of solemn silence for Damien before coming to this party, having spent a little time at the candlelight vigil ceremony in the park.He had felt.. numb, during that for the most part. Nearly everything in town was destroyed. And a loss of lives as well, locals in addition to displaced. Now he was partly relieved to be in the cabin. After the day he had, or the month, he understood the need to celebrate living. He had worn one of his good clothes, pressed slacks, white shirt, blue tie, blue jacket. He was always one to dress up for special occasions and felt this was one of them.

He had ran into Kirk a few minutes before, remembering the private talk he'd had with him on the network, asking advice. Damien hoped he was helpful. It was rare that he had friends, true friends that he could help out when needed. It was usually financial or supplies, but it was nice to try with personal matters as well. He mostly hoped they could survive a while longer with all that was going on lately. Now holding a plate of food and a soda pop, he noticed someone he had seen around on various occasions.. Rose. Thankfully this was another who was spared grave injury in the Greaves quake, he hoped her friends were safe as well. "Hi," he spoke up, walking past her and stopping to speak. "thanks for planning this thing, I know a lot of us need a bit of uplifting feeling right now."

ROSE & DAMIEN - TRIGGER WARNING FOR MENTION OF CHARACTER DEATH

Avoiding Graeves House for as long she had, meant that Rose hadn't seen Damien for awhile. As weird as it sounded, she'd completely forgotten how closely he resembled Christian. His voice and his mannerisms were different. Damien was a very different person from Christian, but faced with him now, Rose still froze as the shock in their physical similarities hit her. If she'd still been holding the tray of food, she would have dropped it. As it was, her face registered both shock and guilt as her eyes took in those familiar features that he and Christian had shared. Rose could never truly forget what she'd done, but now it all came rushing back more intensely than usual.

For a moment, Rose couldn't find her voice. She has to clench her hands into fists to stop them from shaking. Seeing Damien wearing Christian's face was like seeing a ghost. It took every ounce of control she had to wipe that expression from her face and to make herself smile. Even then, the smile was a weak one and when she nodded in acknowledgement of his thanks, the gesture was stuff. It would be rude to turn and run from him, but that was exactly what she wanted to do.

"It wasn't just me. Regina did most of the work," she managed, finally. Her voice sounded strange to her own ears, as if it was someone else speaking instead of her.

Not Christian. He's not Christian, she told herself silently, trying to keep herself from going into a full on panic attack right then and there. She just had to make it through a moment's polite conversation and then she could go. Surely, she could manage that much.

ROSE & DAMIEN - TRIGGER WARNING FOR MENTION OF CHARACTER DEATH

"Oh yeah, I'd heard she was good at putting things together like this," Damien admitted with a nod. Magic was likely involved with some of it. From what he understood, Regina had been a queen and sorceress, and mayor too, so something of this magnitude was likely easily done. "I would have planned a big bash too and gotten fireworks, or maybe a company barbecue day, but.. well. The disasters happened. So I'm grateful we have this now to lift some spirits up. I'll be sure to thank Regina as well when I see her. Oh- but I do have fireworks in my car which I can retrieve when it's time to set some off tonight."

He had noticed a bit of initial shock and surprise on Rose's face when he had spoken and eyes had met. It had confused him a moment. Had they met like this before? He'd seen her around but.. ohh. It was now that he remembered that Rose and anyone else from her world, there was a man with his face. Christian. Damien had actually forgotten about him, had only met him just one time. Which was a few months ago or longer.

Then again, maybe it was something totally different, maybe there were things going on with her or someone else, he had no idea in any case. "Err, are you alright?" He felt he had to ask at least. He'd never want anyone uncomfortable by his appearance even if he didn't know. Or he could have just been assuming, which is possible. "I hope I didn't startle you or anything, sometimes I'd surprised people by accident before. Comes from being quiet naturally, I guess. Which is great in conflict scenarios, but not much during the day to day with acquaintances." He laughed lightly at that last part then, adopting humor as a way to make things more easy and amiable.

"I think Regina was just planning to use magic." Rose shrugged. She'd left the light show details up to her. In all honesty, Rose didn't really feel like celebrating any more than some others did. She still thought having something like this was important, though. What she'd said was something she believed in. It was important to find something to celebrate even in the midst of a tragedy. Especially then.

Forgetting about Christian wasn't a luxury Rose enjoyed. His final moments were burned into her memory. What she'd done to him was the worst of her crimes as a struggling. It was something she would never, ever forget. If seeing Lissa brought those memories more easily to the surface, seeing his double did that even more. Rose knew they weren't the same person. There were so many differences between them. That didn't make this easy, though.

Not wanting to talk about it, Rose schooled her expression quickly into a mask of perfect guardian-neutrality. "I'm fine, really," she assured him. It wouldn't have fooled anyone who really knew her well. If her closest friends were paying attention to her now, they'd know something was wrong. For someone she'd only met a few times, who barely knew her, though, she figured it should be good enough.

When Damien had heard of Regina using magic to make fireworks instead of the usual methods, he seemed very intrigued and curious. He supposed his fireworks can wait another time. "Oh, well that's cool," he said in appreciation and slight awe, "I had always enjoyed watching people do magic. I've seen a few witches do a bit, so I look forward to seeing it again." No doubt Regina's magic would be great to see.

He had almost thought something was wrong. But Rose's assurances, plus she didn't really look disturbed now after he asked.. plus he didn't know her as well as he did other friends. Perhaps his intuition or feeling had been off the mark this time. He wasn't about to push it further, or that would have been cause for discomfort. And he certainly wasn't about to go that route with anyone. And besides, he could be wrong in this case. "Alright," he said with a nod, "well, thank you again. I should probably say hello to Regina to thank her as well. And I must say, this is a very nice cabin. Reminds me almost of one I'd stayed in while vacationing in England."

"Regina's magic is pretty impressive, anyway." Rose was kind of looking forward to this show, too. Overall, she was really glad they'd done this party thing, even if not everyone agreed with them or their reasons. They had a good turnout and people seemed to be having a good time. Even the uncomfortableness of being face to face with someone who looked like Christian couldn't really change how she felt about what they were doing here today.

"Thanks," she said when he complimented the cabin. "It was a lot simpler before, but Regina did a lot of embellishing to make room for all of us. It's a lot better than some people have, so I'm pretty grateful we have it." She managed a smile, one that was half-faked, but should be good enough. It was clear that Damien was moving on from their conversation and she kept the relief she felt from her face. Damien seemed like a nice enough guy. Being around him now was just a reminder of things she didn't like to think about, especially in a setting like this.
