Who: Caroline and Klaus
What: date night
Where: Kansas City
When: this weekend
Warnings: I’ll update if needed.
This night was nothing like the first time the two of them had gone out to have her practice from feeding from humans. Or well, parts of it were nearly the same, but the trepidation that had fluttered through Caroline for most of the hours leading up to hitting the club with house wasn’t there that time. It had been decreasing each time they’d gone out, never at the same place twice, usually not in Lawrence to enjoy a fresh meal.
Which was still really weird for Caroline to think of anyone that way. A meal. It hurt her head if she thought about it too hard, that tiny voice in her head trying to remind her that this was wrong but it was difficult to listen to that one at all once they were in the middle of the club with the music thrumming through her body and hundreds of heartbeats almost beating as one around her. She needed blood to survive--regular food was nice and all and she did enjoy it still, especially since it didn’t add on any pounds any longer--but blood was her real sustenance. Blood bags were good and all for everyday consumption and hunts in the woods staved off her need to chase and conquer most of the time. But every few weeks she would start to get the itch, the need to head out with Klaus and allow herself to truly be a vampire.
No one died.
No one but the two of them remembered what happened either.
They were staying overnight in the city, some hotel with decadent sheets and a bathtub she almost envied, and while the opera he’d taken her to had been breathtaking and the dinner before that had been delectable, Caroline found herself humming with energy as they stepped out of the opera house.
“I’m hungry,” she told Klaus as she took his hand, threading their fingers together. She figured he would understand what she meant.
